NEW...DOLPHIN/SWAN..."questions and answers"...tips and hints!

I thought I read one time about report incentive progam at dolphin/swan. Does anyone has any info.

Welcome Baby Kirk

I am thrilled to hear that his dad has made his official arrival notice to us all- imagine having all those sisters to love him and take such good care of him. My parents were thrilled, when after having 5 girls, my brother was born and talk about being spoiled by all of us!!!

Hockeymom - here at the other end of the state, some of the younger teachers in my building were also pink slipped but our principal hopes to have them back. In Springfield we lost 170 teachers, I believe the final number was. After 26 years in education, it is never easy to understand how the quality of any child's education can be enhanced by larger class sizes - but, we seem to be hit rather hard every time by layoffs.

DF - sure hope that your daughter's ear infection is easing off.

Marymrg - if you looked out the window this afternoon, the "sun," that yellow ball in the sky, was shining. With all the rain we have had,. my plants and flowers look water-logged. Reminds me of that Bradbury? story, where the kids await the coming of the sun after 10 years of rain.

Happy Father's Day to all you special men!

Caroline

Ozzie is 100% correct here! The Corner KING w/TURRET balcony (the secret one), and the regular balcony too...is the most ROMANTIC on PROP! ;)

#1hockeymom...You are SO FUNNY, Deb! I was laughing as I read your post...and recalled the "thread" you are referring to (hysterical!). :p :p

I LOVE your packing style! I just figure if I forget anything, I'll buy it when we arrive. I used to be more uptight (before DD was born), and progressively learned to "go with the flow" and relax.
It's no longer the "end of the world" if I forget something...LOL. ;)

Thanks for all the nice wishes for DD's recovery. DD is feeling a "tiny" bit better, yet still has LOTS of pain. I just checked on her to assist with the Floxin Otic drops (ten in each ear, twice a day for ten days), and her right ear is plugged completely with "drainage" seeping out of her ear canal. I was shocked by the sight, as it is clearly infection draining out. I may be taking her in again this afternoon. I hate taking ANY chances with her EARS. :( She's taking antibiotics too: trimox/2 tabs twice a day for ten days).

harleyquinn...so glad you enjoyed the posts/advice. There's MUCH to be learned on this thread about the Swan/Dolphin, and many other WDW (& other) topics!

disnfanRN...any advice/ideas? Anyone else ever have children with such ear infections? Thanks in advance...you are all so kind/helpful. :)

WOW, everyone... I take a few hours to clean the house and run errands and come back to check in and so much is going on!!!

Poppins Family ~ :bounce: :bounce: CONGRATS to all of you! What a wonderful Dad's Day gift for you DadPoppins. Thank you from me, too, for letting us know how all went. Give Robin my best and a kiss to baby Kirk - the newest DISer on this thread!

Debbie ~ Thanks for thinking of me and the last day of school was yesterday. We had a relatively smooth closing. I still will be going into the office through next week. Then, I have some other professional responsibilities that will keep me busy after that until June 30. I take the month of July as vacation time. BTW,
we are big fans of the Bruins. I was "raised" on the Bobby Orr era of the Bruins.

harleyquinn ~ your DF certificate will suffice. That is all I brought with me last summer as my means of ID. I was not asked if I had a teaching position just showed my active teaching certificate. You should be fine. Oh, and welcome to DIS - we are a terrific bunch of Disney nuts.

DF ~ I do hope your DD is doing better as I write this. There is nothing like ear problems to make you feel miserable.

Welcome Little Kirk!!!!!!
What a great Dad's Day present - a boy for Kirk sr.
That birth story got me weepy!!!

DF, When my children would get ear infections my doc always gave them amoxcillion 250mg 3 X daily. That would usually clear it up quickly. In fact as soon as they started meds they usually had relief from the earache. I hope you DD is feeling better? That is a terrible earache you discribed. Maybe she needs a different antibiotic although I have heard trimox is a good one. It just sounds very bad with infection coming out of her ears. I'm not familar with the drops you mentioned. I'm sending pixie dust for sure! I really hope she gets some relief!

Mouseteacher, have a good time in North Conway. We are headed to North Conway in July ourselves. Staying at the GRAND. I'm sure you are going to do some power shopping up there. If you get a chance try Jonathans for some great seafood!

Muffy

Congratulation mompoppin etal!!! Babykirk sounds like he's doing great. When I worked NICU (many moons ago) baby kirk wouldn't be eating for a long time, thank god for medical advances!!!!! I had 2 c-sec's, recovery isn't as fast but tolerable eap if you have DH as great as Kirk Sr is.

Lisa - Do you think she could also have a ruptured ear drum? I remember when one of my kids had ear problems, the Dr. said to discontinue the drops when the ear started to drain. But, I would check with your Dr. (maybe they are different drops) Just like Muffy........my kids started feeling noticeably better within a day or so.

On our first family trip to DW in 1996, we had to have a Disney Doc come to our room at 12:30am for my oldest son. (well......he was our only son at the time) Apparently the pressure from the airplane ride was the culprit. The hardest part was keeping him from swimming. Dh also had a horrible case of swimmer's ear on our return trip from our honeymoon in Hawaii. I think we bought every available remedy at the San Fran. airport before making our connection. Geesh.........I haven't thought about that in a long time. OK........TMI.

maryG

P.S. Thanks to lovingthemouse for sending me her sunshine! I feel like a new woman :smooth:

Hi to all the S/D lovers here. Sorry to have been gone a long time. I have read up on the thread and was holding my breath for a while waiting for the birth announcement!

Congrats to the "Poppinses" on the miraculous birth. 3 pounds and breathing without assistance...what a little fighter.

DF, my nephew had a similar terrible ear infection with outer ear drainage. He finally needed to get a kind of antibiotic sponge with meds hich specifically designed to fight his variety of bacteria (which they had cultured). I think his bacteria was resistant to the other meds he had taken . Checkwith your Dr.

Ozziewags...I am curious about the 12th floor at the Swan. I am supposed to have an Exec. suite on the actual club level. It is not the fancy one with the piano (OH, darn). Do you think this must be on the 11th floor? I know it has a king BR connecting to the parlor room but separated by a door. I am hoping to ask them to open the ajacent connected 2 queens room, if it is available. I just wonder what floor we are on, but not enough to actually call and ask.

Who is BOB? Does he answer the room request emails now?

One last trivial question...my room confirmation came and said "VIP". Is this just referrring to my Plat status? Anyone, anyone?

Debbie........I wish I could help you more. I had the only jr. suite(in the far west corner), and the bigger suites were on the Dolphin side, but I could only peek in as I went by and all I saw was a huge room with piano and adjoining bedroom. There were more than one, but I didn't see in them. It was probably your exec. suite! The rooms on the front side of the Swan were standard rooms. As for VIP status, I am not sure. I am platinum SPG too, but don't remember seeing VIP on my ressie. Maybe it says VIP if you paid for an exec suite.....DF will know. If you have any questions or requests, just call and ask.

As for Bob, I think he is the person from Dreams Unlimited that answers questions/requests?

Is Bob and SwanDolphin one and the same? I feel silly admitting it but when we are there I sometimes look at a CM helping us and wonder, "are you SwanDolphin"???

Since it's the weekend, her Ped. Dr. is not available, we may end up in the pedi/medi emergency center tomorrow am. She seems to be doing a "little" better, but I would expect more by now (third day). Well...it's better HERE, rather than while in the WORLD! ;)

She is wrapping DH's "gifts" as I type. Some books on tape (We love these, and will listen to two of them in the rental on the way to KEY WEST (we are driving there after the Disney Cruise, leaving Port Canaveral). One is "Blue Latitudes" ~ Boldly going where Captain COOK has gone before (by Tony Horwitz), and "Catch me if you can" (yes...same as the flick), w/fab narration. We also bought him a "Fighting Irish" man (gag gift...very cute), a gameboy advance SP platinum system (to bring to WDW, etc.), some games (for the GBA & MATRIX, etc. for XBOX), some nice Polo & Tommy Bahama clothing for vacation, Sony memory sticks for his MP3, and a few other items, cards, etc. He will be delighted, as he is SO easy to please. He never expects the things we give him, and is always so HAPPY with everything. ;) After 17 incredible years of marriage, (especially with my indecisive nature), he's still the one thing in my life I was SURE about! :)

marymrg..she could have...and I'm having them run the battery of tests on her before we leave the E-Room tomorrow. Thanks for your efforts and suggestions. ;)

Debbie7452...Thanks for the info. I'll check with the Doctor and inquire about the Culture Test as well. All of this feedback is so valuable! :)

I believe the VIP is referring to your EXEC SUITE status, as mine has the same denotation. (P.S. ASK upon check-in if there is a CHANCE they would open the door to the other BR, if available, and let you have it too).

I'M VERY EXCITED...as our NEW CHASE UNIVERSAL STUDIOS card arrived today! Just in time for ORLANDO IOA & US. It's flashy, plat. and offers a point system similar to the new Disney CC we have. I applied on the www.UniversalOrlando.com website. They are FUN cards, and we enjoy PLAYING with these while in the MAGIC...lost in FANTASY!

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY to all you WONDERFUL DADS! :sunny:

Happy Father's Day

Yippee :bounce: Sun is shining today and the weatherman is saying it will stay out all day!!!

DF ~ :) I, too, knew my DH was a sure thing! He is a wonderful husband and the most loving father. My DSs often say that their dad is always there for them - they realize what a special man he is. Youngest DS always teases us by saying that he'll move back in with us when he is older b/c, as he tells it, someone will need to take care of you "old" people! Yikes... I guess we DO seem "older" (not old) to him.

I did not receive a confirmation in the mail. I do have a confirmation # and do see my reservation online at spg. I booked through spg. Last summer, I booked through the Dolphin and did receive a written confirmation. Should I call the Swan and get a confirmation # from them and a written confirmation? I remember that last summer I had 2 confirmation #s - one from the Dolphin and one from spg.

I did e mail the Swan about an upgrade and in doing so wrote my confirmation #. I received back the standard reply. However, I wonder if they even look up the reservation or just e mail back that reply as a courtesy.

Muffy ~ Jonathan's is a fav - usually stop on the way into N. Conway if it's time to eat or make it a stop while shopping. My dad owns has a condo in Glen just north of N. Conway - right near StoryLand. We also like to have dinner at the Wildcat Inn in Jackson.

Happy Father's Day to all the daddies out there! I hope you all have a lovely day :)

Thank you to all the people wishing me well on the dreaded "pink slip". I have decided that I am going to try not to think about it and enjoy my summer off. Hopefully our district will get their act together. If they stay on the same road they're on, they'll not only have lost some wonderful teachers, but many of "our" children will end up going to charter schools in the area and they will be lost to the district. I still have a week of teaching and packing to go. I do have an important perk, though. I LEAVE IN LESS THAN EIGHT DAYS! *happydancing* (and I don't live there, I am very happy with the school district my own children go to.)

*everyone stop eating now*

Df>> sounds like an outer ear infection. That is exactly what my DH had and exactly what he was given for his ears. He also was given vicodin for the pain. The drainage, according to his specialist he finally went to, is a good thing! He had compacted ear wax, and the drops weren't doing a thing for it. After three visits, they finally managed to dislodge the ear wax and it came out in hunks the size of jelly beans. After that, he literally felt like a new man!

*you may begin eating again*

Bob is a great guy from Dreams Unlimited who happens to be in charge of my reservations. I believe his online name is Webmaster Bob. He has had to put up with many changes of what I consider the best view according to what I have read. I finally just stopped changing my mind. CL with balcony. (I am paying for CL as I have a 17 year old and a hockey player that eats like it might be the end of the world.) Extended breakfast in CL will work out well with them. My DS prefers not to leave the house until he has had his third breakfast! I hope they remember to put the robes in my CL room not on CL; I am counting on them being there! Basically, just give me that fantabulous view! A great sunrise makes everything perfect!

I finally had that "talk" with my DH about dinner reservations. All he could say was "We're eating turkey legs, we can save a lot of money eating turkey legs. Go to that website you're always talking about and go find out the price of turkey legs and where we can eat them." I guess I should be glad that I did get him to watch Disney Unwrapped with me! I just gave him a dirty look, and my DS and I continued our quest of restaurant choices. I have a feeling we'll be winging it at Disney, which is fine. I know the real reason he hasn't made a choice is the fact we were both raised in "commando vacation" style, and we have purposely gone the opposite direction.

Debbie7452>> I keep on having this dream we were upgraded to a lovely suite! Maybe I can give you an update on your room location before you go! :)

Glad to hear that the East Coast is seeing some sunshine! :smooth: I thought Michigan always had the bad weather due to the Great Lakes. This year the East is definately worse off than Michigan!

Have a lovely day!
Debbie

DF, I hope your DD is better today. I know it is worrisome when your child is sick. Especially with your trip drawing near and so many things to do. Debbie's suggestion that it is an outer ear infection sounds like a good one.

Debbie, You can request robes if they aren't in the closet. We had to request them and they were brought right up. We were given terry cloth robes but people have mentioned a waffle robe that sounds comfy! Maybe they have the terry cloth robes in the winter and waffle robes in the summer? Have a great time! You will LOVE the Dolphin!

DF-
I really empathize with your dd - I have had so many bad ear infections (as an adult) my hearing was impacted. Next to a bad toothache an ear ache is one of the worst pains you can have (and I include childbirth on that list!!! LOL!!)

As you know that plane flight could be tough for her so prepare for that too. I have found that different spectrums of antibiotics have helped different ear infections. One that I have personally had great success with Omniceph. Much better than with a wide spectrum like Trimox. I am sure that I am not telling you anything you already don't know! ;)
Good luck and I hope she is feeling better soon!

I want to "Thank you" all for your kind words and thoughts. I am off to the ER again, with DD. The PAIN is just too much for her to bear, and she has not been able to sleep through the night. :( Both ears are draining, and excruciatingly painful to the touch, etc. She is unable to even "rest" her head to the sides of her pillow.

I have no idea why the initial physician failed to give her a pain medicine...(her reg. physician was out of town last week). She was crying as she sat in his office and exam room? Hopefully, we will fare better on this visit. What a waste of time...more $$$...and most of all, risking HER health, etc. (all due to incompetence, IMOHO).

I'll check-in when I return. DH is upset with the DR., and feels terrible for DD. We are both frustrated, especially feeling helpless with regards to her Pain.

Thanks again. I hope you are ALL enjoying this wonderful day!

TTFN...;)

Oh, DF, I hope your visit to the ER fares better with help for DD. There is nothing worse when your child is in pain. And, how frustrating when the health care is sub par. Please let us know how she is doing and hopefully new meds will kick in fast and send her on a speedy recovery. You certainly don't want her to fly with her ears in that condition so she needs to mend quickly. PD and prayers and {{hugs}} to all of you.

Not exactly the best Father's Day for your DH with his DD in such discomfort.

Gosh Dreamflight, hope your dd is getting the right medicine. Amoxil never worked on my kids zithromax was the best for them. There are also ear drops that relieve the pain, prob too late to tell you that as your already back getting rechecked. Hope your fathers day went well despite DD's ear infections.

How are ya doing baby kirk, little weight loss initially is normal then you can start packing on the pounds.

Oh my goodness,
Away from this place for a couple of days and all heck breaks loose!

Welcome to the newest Poppins, and thanks for the post. It was terribly sweet of you, Kirk Sr., and your wife, to make sure we all got the good news! I can't believe how, after such a relatively short time here on the boards, I have to come to "care" about all of my fellow Disers. Your post got me teary, too!

Dreamflight, you and DD are also in my thoughts. My mother always seems to ache when I am sick or in pain - I am certain that you and your DH are experiencing many sympathy pains for your poor girl. My best to all of you.

Debbie - I can honestly tell you some of my best dining experiences at WDW have been those places we just "stumbled" upon during our vacations. One fond memory I have is sitting at the bar at the California Grill and having sushi and wine with my older brother. We hadn't planned to eat there, but just kind of drifted in that direction after decided we could really go for a cocktail... We ended up having a fantastic time, chatting the with bartender (a darling!) and our fellow diners. We left having made some new friends and great memories. It was a tough time for my brother (why do some girls have to stomp on the hearts of the nice guys??) and it is one of the highlights of what had been a difficult trip (well, as much as a trip to WDW can be.)
Maybe you could just "drift" into a place in which you'd like to dine and watch the magic unfold!

Thanks to all for posting all those pics! They are DIVINE!!!

Hope you all had a lovely weekend,
Caitlin
