You're right, Audrey. In any contract situation the options are to accept it as is, negotiate a change to your liking or walk away from the deal. DVC is no different. The time to raise those issues is before signing the agreement. We, all too often, accept something and then decide unilaterally, that we don't really like it and make "changes" to suit our own situation.
If there are policies which someone can't agree to and abide by, they probably shouldn't sign the agreement!
