Hi everyone,

I'm thinking ahead and would like to paint my own Christmas ornaments, but I'm having trouble finding blank, basic ornaments online. I'd like to paint on some balls, as well as flat ornaments, like circles, stars, etc. Can someone point me in the right direction? It feels like such a basic in crafts, but I'm having no luck. I assume I don't know how to search right. :confused3

Oriental Trading has some 'design-your-own' flat ceramic ornaments:

Search on the item number below for some examples:
IN-56/9110 Christmas Ornaments
IN-57/325 Autumn Ornaments

I hope this helps.

Hobby Lobby stores carry clear blown glass shapes likes balls, diamonds and hearts during the Christmas crafting season. My sister and I use these. I believe they might carry the flat ceramic blanks, too, but not sure.
I always thought HL was everywhere, but I see there is only one in CA, and it isn't open yet. But maybe you'll be able to get there sometime if you can't find what you want online??? The store will open in Visalia, but according to the HL on Facebook, they don't have an opening date for it yet.

I bought plaster of paris and found some plastic molds at Michaels that I used. They came out around August or Sept. I think.

Then I made up the plaster of paris, followed the directions to prepare and filled the molds. Once dry I painted them. I think mine were a santa, 2 angels, a christmas tree and a couple of other things.

I posted a thread for making Photo ornament balls here:

I was just at Michael's on Friday and they had a small assortment of ornaments out already. Clear glass balls in round and a flat round, plastic in same shapes, and flat ceramic. Each was around 99 cents.

This year we are doing a Disney tree (last year it was all Pittsburg Steelers) and I will be making Mickey heads from painted foam balls and also will be using these:

to make my own character ornaments on the cheap. I will probably bend some copper wire to different size swirls to make more Mickey heads. If I can find some wooden shapes that resemble peppermint hard candies (round, flat ones) I will be painting those peppermint-style and making even more Mickey heads, LOL. I want to get the monorail toy to go around the tree, too... but we'll see. I think if we got it, our cat and dog would think that it is their new toy and abuse it .
I'm looking for more ideas, but the figurine play sets are my favorite. And since I'll need to drill them, I can get my DH to do all of those! Bwaaahahaha!

I also might make one of these... I love these types of projects!

OOoooh! I just got the idea to buy some artificial holly leafs...

and make some red (smaller) foam Mickey heads, for the berries. That might actually work a lot better than the wire swirl ones. Hmmmm.

Sorry for the multiple posts!!! I'm on a roll tonight, though, LOL.
If I can find some Disney Easter egg wraps, and some small glass ornaments... then I could make something like this:

If you don't know what I mean by the Easter egg wraps, they are cellophane-like tubes that you put around a boiled egg and then drop into hot water to shrink around the egg. This would be a super cheap idea, but will probably have to wait 'til Christmas 2011, so I can buy the egg wraps right AFTER Easter...

I would check hobby lobby, michaels, or oriental trading online..I would also check the dollar stores for blank ones or ones that can be painted...our stores are coming out with them now

I was just at Michael's on Friday and they had a small assortment of ornaments out already. Clear glass balls in round and a flat round, plastic in same shapes, and flat ceramic. Each was around 99 cents.

I stopped in Michaels today and they have their clear ornaments on sale.

I bought a bunch of clear plastic round ornaments for .49 cents - reg. price $.79, but on sale 40% off.

Any good ideas on what to fill them with to "Disney-ify" them?? I'd like to give some as gifts to our traveling party ... we're going on a Disney cruise and I thought these would be fun little mementos.

Also, any ideas on ribbons, etc - if I were to tie one around the little metal loop?
