DS16 sees a pediatric nephrologist who is part of a huge network of pediatric specialists at a large hospital. There are 2 doctors (he sees one mainly), a nurse practitioner and a secretary. But they share office space with many other doctors. We are very pleased with his care and would like to give them a little something, but not sure what or how to give it - we just want it for those 4 specific people. I've never met the secretary but she always saves the last appt of the day for us since we have to travel so far.

Since we usually have the last appt of the day, it would be hard to give fresh food (cookies, etc). I don't really want to send something since it's a huge place and I don't know if they'll actually get it. The Dr he sees is Indian, so I'm not sure if she celebrates Christmas. It just seems like the holidays are a good time to show appreciation.

Any ideas? Earlier this year (when he was diagnosed) we saw them weekly and while he was hospitalized. Now he goes every 5 - 6 weeks and his next appt is the end of Nov, so that's when we'd bring something. Thanks!

I give food even when I have an appointment late in the day. I usually make it a day or two before (depending on what it is).

My allergist is part of the pediatric clinic at our hospital. I give stuff to her and her nurse. I just bring it with me and give it to them in the exam room. I do the same with all of my doctors. Three of them are part of the larger hospital medical group and 2 others are in a private practice. I have 6 who I see on a regular basis (between every month-every 3 months).

I've never done anything but food so if you are reconsidering food, this is what i've done:
Fudge
chocolate truffles
chocolate covered pretzels
rugelach
peppermint bark
brownies
pumpkin gingerbread
pumpkin scones
peppermint patties

All has been a big hit.

I work in a hospital and we get a lot of food gifts at Christmas, but they are always appreciated by the whole staff.

This! Everything that is given gets eaten, but some people tend to avoid homemade goodies. I would say get something prepackaged like chocolate, coffee, or something to snack on!

Any gift you give will be much appreciated, it really is the thought. We really do appreciate the thought!

how about getting an edible arrangement on your way down to the appt.

The thing about this is that 1)they are expensive, 2) if they have the last appointment of the day, I would say that they might want to bring something that the doctors and NP can bring home. If they are seeing them and then leaving for the day, it very well might not get eaten.

But also, in my doctors offices, they have no space where they can put something like an edible arrangement especially if they are going to be sharing. There's just no extra space.

I always bring stuff pacakged so that it can be stored and taken home because I know that my doctors very rarely actually get to eat it during the day. My doctors also like bringing it home to share with their family.

Disfan07 is on the money. We medical people like to eat. And eat. And not to repeat myself but eat. Its sometimes hard to get a full lunch break so we pick up things and run with it. Fudge, cookies, brownies, cupcakes, mints, etc. Also the sugar keeps us going.

Yep, the medical staff loves us some food ...and we especially enjoy the boxed chocolates.

Oh, anything munchy is good. Can I suggest that since just about everyone thinks of Christmas sweets and such that during that time of year, a tray of veggies and some dip(s) is greatly appreciated. At our office, we all know that there is this one mom who makes killer brownies and a few that make some great breads and even more that whatever they bake should hit the trashcan upon taking it out of their eyesight. lol But, we get so much stuff, fruit, candy, cookies, baked goods and whatnot that a veggie tray is the real treat, especially the closer that you get to Christmas when the neverending sugar buzz is adding to the inches that you can pinch.

I too was going to suggest an edible arrangement. We just received one ourselves and made a nice fruit salad out of all the pieces. I find it amusing reading about all the junk food the medical professionals are eating.

Since you really want to thank specific personnel, how about gift cards to your local coffee house or sandwich shop.

Oh yeah...in addition to the sugar rush that all medical professionals loves...don't forget about their other love....COFFEE!

In addition to food, I have also given a couple of my doctors starbucks giftcards. Our hospital has a starbucks inside and the ones who work in or next to the hospital frequent it 4, 5 maybe 6 times a day depending on how long they are there.

The biggest reason we eat this kind of food is that is grab and go. A lot of times you don't have the extra time to sit down and eat a proper lunch/dinner. Just too dang busy. It's nice to drop by the lounge, grab a quick brownie, cookie, or anything that is quick!!!

Another idea, a little on the healthier side, is a tin of gourmet nuts. That is if no one has an allergy. We always have someone bring us the peanuts. They are AWESOME!!! And I am not a big peanut person. They never last long in our office! Very easy to grab and go.

And we do love our fruit!!! Nice chunks of fresh fruit, easy to fill up a cup and go. Very refreshing, healthy snack!!

And yes, coffee and teas are always appreciated.

Gift baskets from Harry and David don't last long. Always a hit.

And love the mom to one of our patient's that brings us Chocolate/Banana muffins still warm from the oven :worship::worship::worship:

I agree with all the other medical staff. When I worked in the Dr's office, we loved nothing more than getting food.

That is one reason I love working in the profession. If I have left over cake from a kids birthday party ( like the time when Grandma ordered a whole sheet cake vs a half a sheet cake, and we really only needed a quarter sheet :rotfl:) I can take it in to work and know that it will be enjoyed and GONE by lunch.

If youre looking for something different, i.e. not candy or eats, get a 2 yr subscription to a magazine for the office

What about having a massage therapist coming in to do chair massages or foot/leg massages? Depending on the schedule for the office, have someone come in for the last 4 hours of the day or something??

Yup, we love our stuff - homemade and all. Last week someone made us gingerbread cookies with some sort of filling in the middle. They were delish! :goodvibes

I think an Edible Arrangement is great, but not at the end of the day if the office is closing. Maybe you could order it early in the day?

Something pre-packaged would probaby work well in your situation.

Yep, being a nurse is one of the most unhealthy things I have ever done. You run constantly for a 12 hour shift and you are lucky to get a break or stop to pee. That is the state of healthcare these days. The sugar helps! lol.
