I'm trying to understand what this is like. It has been described to me as a porthole opening with enclosed sides. Doesn't that greatly obstruct the view? Thanks
your description sounds like the one from the magic/wonder where they were designed. i have no first hand experience, but from the pictures it looks like an open picture window. so if you are standing at it should look the same as if you were standing at the rail of a regular verandah, but sitting you would have limited views. http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/s...oceanview-stateroom-with-navigators-verandah/
the dream/fantasy don't have navigators verandah's like that. they use category 7A for "Undersized and/or Obstructed View Private Verandah". if you check out the Dream pictures thread you can see the obstructions for most if not all of these rooms. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2586763
when they say undersized they're not kidding. so it looks like if you are diligent about checking out stateroom reports and looking through the Dream photos thread and searching through the forum you could avoid disappointment.
it really ranges from "because of the discount i can live with it" to "really!? should have got a porthole"
If you look in this aft photo, the 7a obstructed view cabins are immediately to the left and right of the big round windows. You can see some of the ship's metal super structure blocking the veranda view out to sea. The two bottom right ones are not included. These 7a's exist forward too fwiw.
That youtube video in PP link is showing what the 7a undersized veranda.
IMHO the worst case assignment, however some would love the unobstructed aft view.
Thanks for the replies. I think I'm going to do the ocean view instead. I would love a regular verandah but I don't want to spent the extra money on a 4 night cruise where I probably won't be in the room that much.
they're noted in the Dream Special Rooms thread I linked to earlier.
apologies if I made it seem like all the 7As would be like the one in the video. that just seems to be (to me) the "really!? should have got a porthole" in the reaction spectrum.
personally i just booked a FWD one on 8 for the Fantasy. I'm thinking it should be a "because of the discount i can live with it" reaction.
