Ok, I need help here (so what's new I hear you ask, hehehe)

I need to know the name of a song/artist. All I know is a little of the lyrics of the chorus though which is the bit that makes it tough (I can of course hum you the whole tune from start to finish but I'm thinking that's not much help in these circumstances ;) )

It's not a new tune - not pop - it's what you might call a classic 'easy listening' song. It is, I am sure, one that most everyone will know if they heard it. It's mid-tempo, not fast, but not slow. It's sung by a man. It's what I would call a tune that's big on melody if you know what I mean.

Ok, here's the bit of lyrics that I can kinda remember from the chorus

"but I love you(her?)...I'm hoping that I never recover....
but you're(she's?) good for me, and you(she?) can make me really happy,
I'm never gonna drift(?) awaaaaaay"

This is such a well known tune - and I have a feeling once I find out who sings it I'll go "Oh yeah - of course it is!" In the meantime, it's gonna drive me nuts.

So...anyone?

Penny, is it 'Never let her slip away' by Andrew Gold ?

Go on - give us another...:)

Paul

Yeah :) I was singing away there too! Only I didn't know the singer only the song.

I know you didn't start it as a thread, but anyone else wanna play guess the lyrics? Who wants to start the ball rolling? ( If you guess one right, you post the next lyrics :) )

Isn't it "Never Let Her Slip Away" by Undercover? I think they also did Baker Street?

I talked to my baby on the telephone
Long distance
I never would've guessed
I could miss someone so badly
I really only met her 'bout a week ago
But it doesn't seem to matter to my heart
I know that I love her
I'm hoping that I never recover
'Cause she's good for me
And it would really make me happy
To never let her slip away
I feel like a kid with a teenage crush
On a school date
I feel like the lead in "Romeo & Juliet"
I'm a little bit dizzy
I'm a little bit scared
I guess I never felt this much aware
That I'd love her
I'm hoping that I'll never recover
Cause she's good for me
And it would really make me happy
To never let her slip away

That's it! Drift away, slip away...same thing ;)

Paul thank you thank you thank you :)

Hmmmmm, enjoyed that one did ya?

Ok, in that case, here's another one for you (all)

Clue here...another very well known song and it's a woman who sings it.

So I chose freedom
Running around, trying everything new
But nothing impressed me at all
I never expected it to

So... Name That Tune ;)

:) Don't Cry For Me Argentina ?

My turn then...how about ?

Buying bread from a man in Brussels
He was six foot four and full of muscles
I said, "Do you speak-a my language"
He just smiled and gave me a Vegimate sandwich

Any takers ? (last line probably gives it away a bit)

Paul

Oh, that man's goooooood :)

I do know that one - but as I've just posted 2 sets of lyrics on the bounce I won't be greedy and leave it to someone else!

You got it :D

I'll do one more then someone else can have a go:

Drink Sangria in the park,
And then later, when it gets dark,
We go home

Paul

Perfect Day.... Can't remember who did it... It was a charity cover done recently....?

Here's one - very 80s...

"Was it something I said
Or something you read
Is changing your mind
Is turning you around

Is somebody wrong
And somebody right
What was it made up your mind
What could change overnight"

My favorite song by this group ;)

Did you watch a repeat of the 100 top UK hits since 1950 last night on Channel 4?

Brought back a lot of memories from the 70s and 80s :)

No other takers so far, so i'll go for OMD - Was It Something I Said. Haven't heard that for ages, so have just put the Sugar Tax CD on - magic :)

While we're on favourite tracks by bands, how about:

You say you'll give me
Eyes in a moon of blindness
A river in a time of dryness
A harbour in the tempest
But all the promises we make
From the cradle to the grave
....

It was a single back in the late 80s I think, when this band were HUGE - still pretty big now.

I'm a sucker for those top xx programmes Tim - always has me scrambling through the music collection!

Paul

All I want is you - U2...

Very bizarre... I am listening to the Best of U2 80-90 CD at the moment.... This is really spooky...

OK, here's an easy one:

All I know is what I've been sold
You can read my life like a fortune told
I've seen the dream, there's no land of Oz
But I got my brain and I got a heart
And courage built I won't let go
What we need right now is...soul

And a trickier one (which I have to include 'cause I'm seeing them at Wembley Arena on 6 September :teeth: ):

I feel stupid - but I know it won't last for long
I've been guessing - I coulda been guessing wrong
You don't know me now
I kinda thought that you should somehow
Does that whole *** ****** get ya down

I love all those programmes too. Top 100 whatever. Watch 'em all.

The second set of lyrics is Bon Jovi - can't place the first set but they sound familiar.

Yes, the first is I Believe. Anyone got an idea about the second? My favourite band of the moment - much bigger in the States than they are here.
