My fanny pack has been banned!!!

I got this one from Lillian Vernon for our upcoming trip. It's got a place for everything. It was under $20 w/shppg. I didn't want to spend a lot just for something to carry for a week. Mine is tan, but they come in several colors. It seems to feel comfortable slung over my shoulder.

There's also a bigger one with a bottle holder.

I don't care how dorky it looks - I wear my fanny pack every day to the parks. I don't like bringing my wallet to the parks. n fact, I don't even bring it with me to Florida.

Money, license, park tickets, room safe key, gum, etc. Fanny packs are perfect.

No need to wonder -- just have them give you an appropriate replacement. :thumbsup2

Travelon has bags designed to be worn cross-body in a variety of fabrics/leather, and Buxton has a similar version in leather. Baggelini also has several similar styles, but I've found them to be a bit more expensive.

There are certain things I have to carry: contact lens solution, reading glasses (yeah, my contacts require reading glasses these days!), sunglasses, tissues, etc. A cell phone is a requirement this trip, as we have several people going in different directions--and some serious illnesses at home that will necessitate telephone calls at inconvenient times. I use a credit or debit card only for emergencies--and vacation doesn't count as one in my life!--so I also need to accommodate cash/travelers cheques.

I carry a standard leather shoulder bag that is about 10" wide by 7" tall and about 2.5" deep. The shoulder strap is adjustable so I can use it cross-body if necessary. Anything unnecessary for the trip is removed before leaving home; anything unnecessary for the day's activities is left in the hotel room. :thumbsup2

My daughters 18 and 15 have banned my fanny pack for our upcoming trip. What else can I carry that will keep my hands and arms free and hold passes, money, sunglasses, camera, and lip balm. I like the fanny pack because I can get on and off rides without having to take it off.

My daughters will greatly appriciate you helping their Mom not be such a geek!:cool1:

Darn.. I was hoping Disney had banned those hideous things! :rotfl:

Oh God! You just reminded me! I am leaving in 5 hours with my in-laws who are BOUND to have one!

I have my camera and that has room for tons as it is a larger camera and the case is a sash like case, so I don't need to remove it for anything. Before that I had a backpack or nothing... would still have nothing if it weren't for a mischevious 22 month old! lol...

I am with your daughters on this... no fanny pack. Fanny Packs and appliqued sweatshirts with chick-a-dees on them go nicely together and remind me of my 87 year old grandma at the casino. She is a feisty one! :)

I am going to now have to do some people watching for all of the fanny pack lovers. :)

Taja... this sounds reasonable! Not too much, just what you need, and, for most, will all fit in pockets if need be :)

I have also seen really thinand long (5-7 inches) over the shoulder pouches that work nice and you barely know they are there. Less is more people! That fanny pack is enought to carry your kitchen sick and adds just a few pounds to your frame. I think that is why I don't like it. I don't really think they are ugly as they are just like a purse really, just goes around your hips... but I also think that anything tied around one's hips is a bad idea... like a jacket or sweatshirt. I am a large gal and it could be my jealousy of them not fitting me, but I doubt it. :)

Try a body wallet by Fossil or a mini messenger bag from LL Bean. You wear them across your body so you don't have to take them off. They are big enough for a camera, lip balm and maybe a very small wallet. I wear my glasses around my neck and leave the cell phone behind. Also, I use the velcro on my hat to loop it around the bag strap or a belt loop. I think that you will find that you need to cart around less than you think that you do. Heck, I don't even take my camera every day and use Photo Pass. Have a great time!

I never use a fanny pack but I see them all the time at the parks. If I liked them I'd use them period. DH is my storage :). I have my license, Debit card, and Pass in his wallet. I sometimes also put my cell phone in his shirt pocket. DD 17 usually brings a small denim back pack purse that holds the cameras and her cell phone. I make sure I have a pocket that I can put my pass and debit card in if we seperate during the day.

Someone said why bring a cell phone. I know we bring ours so we can seperate and still keep in touch at the parks.

I joined the Disney Movie Club a while ago and got a free backpack. It's similar to the one a previous poster mentioned with a drawstring top. It's relatively small and extremely lightweight.

I also agree with a previous poster who said that you're probably taking a lot of stuff cause you can. I have a little ID holder for my license, room key, admission and some cash. That gets tucked into a small zipper pouch at the top. I put my camera in the bag itself, some sunscreen, cell phone and a case for my sunglasses so they don't bend. That's about it. There's enough room left over that if I purchase something and can't use the resort or front gate shipping option, I can put it into my bag. It weighs probably about a pound with my camera.

And about the cell phone - don't forget - that's probably the preferred method of keeping in contact when groups split up!!! That's the only reason I carry mine. And it actually happened to me once that our group got seperated in the morning. NOBODY had their cell phone. We didn't find one another until the end of the day!!!!

I'm with your daughters in that I wouldn't personally choose to wear a fanny pack. I personally would have words with them after they "banned" my choice of accessory when *I'M* paying! :)

I don't personally care what the fashion-conscious think of my fanny pack. I don't spend a lot of time thinking about what other people are wearing (except spike heels -- I can't help but laugh at those!), and a bag around the waist is more comfortable to me than one across the body.

Stopped taking photos at the park years ago, so I don't care about those, either! I'm there for fun, period.

I use a Coach bag that is probably 5 inches by 10 inches, its very thin, (but not too thin) you can wear it across your body, it has a hook thingy that lets you open the strap.

So what I do is just open it up, run it through my belt loops and keep the pouch on my hip.

If I don't have belt loops, I just do it around my waist.

Do you have a DH going with you? If so, two words....Cargo Shorts. Plenty of room in those pockets for the digital camera, lip gloss, that small tube of sunscreen. Just remember to throw in a couple of zip lock baggies to put stuff into when you go on a water ride. I just keep some cash, ID, room key in my pocket.

Just to start out, why do you let your children dictate what you can and can not do. You're the adult, you dictate to them. that said, I wear a small fanny or hip pack only at Disney and wife does too. We want nothing hanging on our shoulder, or over the shoulder or bulging out pockets. Mine is small, fits some cash, room key and even my small camera, thats it. My pockets are empty, nothing's going to slip or fall out of my pockets cause my pants are empty. It has 2 zippers, easy through security and alls secure, I never take it off so it isn't going to get lost.

Wear what your're comfortable with, I'm in WDW to have fun, will never see these people again, and I'm not trying to impress anyone, just make my life and vacation relaxing and worry free.

:yay: I love that they banned your fanny pack! :rotfl2: I use a messanger bag as well. I have two Disney ones I use that I got a few years ago.

WDW is the only place I wear a waist pack. I'd like WDW to ban those huge bags of crap everyone else carries around instead - nothing like getting smacked in the head by a bag when you are sitting in a food court, etc. Or waiting for people to have all that junk screened by security...

I'm thin, and I wear the strap loosely on my left hip, with the bag hanging a bit lower on the right side. I don't have it as a bustle, or a bulge in the front, etc. I bought mine at EPCOT a few years ago, and I love it. It's small, but everything I need (sunscreen, cellphone, small camera, credit card, cash, park pass, sunglasses) fits in it.

I'm all for telling your girls to suck it up and deal with the fanny pack, or they can stay home. Who cares what others think of the fanny pack? For those that 'despise' them, I'd say get a life - there's a lot more nasty things out there to despise, like child sex slavery, genocide in Africa, and global warming...

I carry a smaller backpack and it's really no bother taking it on and off for rides.

I like to have a bag with me because we go in the winter, and I need a place to store my sweater or jacket during the warm afternoons. It's also good for toting around my refillable mug!

Options:

1. Wear your pack. You are the MOM!
2. Have them carry everything.
3. Let them buy you something that works.

Or....4. Show them this http://www.rei.com/product/747522

It's what I carry. It holds my camera, $1 poncho, jacket, small first aid kit and water bottle. (Yes, I'm a boy scout. ;) )

One look at this and I'm sure they will suddenly LOVE your fanny pack.
