Mr Disney goes to F&W Oct 15-16 and needs YOUR suggestions!

I can see you guys at either the Blue Zoo, or Portobello YC. In fact, I can see myself at the Blue Zoo on 10/2!!

AS for dining - I would suggest that you just plan on "snacking" your day away at the F &W fest on Sunday - there will be something close to 100 different foods to sample (at approx. 35 diff. food boothes around the world showcase), as well as various food and wine seminars......Some of the "Snackies" are outstanding, some are just okay - but it is interesting! .......By the way - if you were planning on doing the food booths BEFORE the PFS - I would limit that - because there is ALOT of food at the PFS - ALL of it outstanding - and you WILL want to have lots and lots of room!!!! I'll be there at the PFS on the 15th, and if my sister comes up with a lame excuse as to Why she can't go to WDW for a 3rd time in a month(???-really) - I'll be there alone - so I'll try to find you (I Know what you look like!)- Don't expect me to be too conversational however - as my mouth will be full most of the night - and my Momma always told me not to talk with my mouth full!!! Jill

Regarding the "snackies" around the world....do they only happen on the weekends? Or is it something we could do at "lunch time" on Monday prior to catching our flight home? I like the idea of the snacks, but think if it is possible that it would be best on Monday before leaving. Our flight our is like 4:45, so we'd have to leave by about 2pm. The would give us 3 hours of snacking on Monday.

Well, obviously this trip theme needs to be "Mr. Disney mingles with the commoners". First you book a room at Pop and then you have dinner on the 16th at Crystal Palace with Pooh and Friends. Oh, and feel free to stick around for MNSSHP.

Of course these suggestions have no relevance whatsoever to the fact that WE will be at those places on those dates. That would be purely coincidence. It would also have nothing to do with my shameless quest to be friends with Mr. Disney so he will send me a fabulous platter of goodies like the one on the food porn thread. Nope. Absolutely no ulterior motive in my suggestions at all! :rolleyes1

But I would like to meet Mr. Disney, just so I can say I have had the pleasure. :)

By the way, didn't Mr. Disney express an interest in the crab sandwich with the protruding legs? WHERE was that again?

HOLY SMOKES this is going to be a PACKED weekend trip. I totally forgot that MNSSHP would be happening....count us in for it on Sunday evening the 16th. Would you like to meet up jackskellingtonsgirl? You may know us, but how will we find you in the sea of humanity that will be there that night?

Now, with regards to being a friend of mine....and goodies from the food porn thread.....well....we can talk about that!

You dog you! Have you been to Blue Zoo before, or will Oct. 2nd be your first time? I've read some mixed reviews about it.

That was the soft shell crab sandwich at Le Cellier, served with a pickle and New England style potato salad. Very delicious.
I guess I'd best start praticing my bondage skills NOW!

Do they serve the Crab Sandwich for take out? I am an exhibitionist, so bringing a bound crab sandwich out into the World Showcase, might be fun!

Hmmm...I've always looked forward to your reviews and pictures!

I would definitely say stay at the Polynesian, Yacht Club or WL

If you stay at Polynesian..how about dinner at Le Cellier

If staying at Yacht Club how about Brown Derby at MGM

If staying at WL...how about Artist Point?

I tried to match the restaurant with the closest restaurant (meaning ease of transportation) you haven't tried. I wouldn't do Shula's because you're Mr. Disney!!! Shula's is a great restaurant but has nothing to do with Disney, it's a chain and you'd eat well but hey you wouldn't be doing Disney!

I had a friend who loves the finer dining and absolutely LOVED Artist Point...Le Cellier is just great food in a cellar and Brown Derby has some neat dishes and the service there has always been tops for us.

Enjoy and let us know!!! :)

I would agree, if Shula's is a "chain" restaurant, I'd probably pass.

I spoke to kevin about the hotel to stay in, and we're still debating. If we want to stay close to Epcot, which resort is the closest? Anything within a short walking distance? or are all of the Epcot resorts a boat ride?

Mr. Disney,

I think Beach Club or Beach Club Villas would be the shortest walk to Epcot. The path leads you to the International Gateway and right into the UK pavillion. There is also a boat, but I don't know the order of the stops and sometimes walking is fastest.

Yes the food stands are set up all week long, not just on the weekends, so your plan to snack for lunch before your departing flight is a good one.

Good luck making your decisions. I know for me, planning is half the fun of going!!!

Thanks for the tips Anne -

We'll definitely plan on "snacking" on Monday then before our flight out!

Planning for me is MORE than half the fun....Kevin calls me "his favorite travel agent" :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

What about Kona Cafe, great food, good service, relaxed atmosphere. I haven't ever had a bad meal there. The appetizers are super tasty, and the kilueah torte is TO DIE FOR! (Anything with warm chocolate spilling out onto the plate is though isn't it?) Plus you can stop by the bar at Ohana and have a Lapu Lapu first!!

We are headed back for our 4th F & W fest in October. The Beach Club Villas are definitely the shortest walk to the International Gateway, about a 10 - 15 min walk to the R & C. We are staying in the BCV for our 3rd time and it is perfect for the fest. If there isn't any availability there, the BC itself would also be a short walk. It is also a fun atmosphere to be in the Boardwalk area.
Have you ever tried the Yachtsman Steakhouse. We had a great dinner there in the past and plan on going back on this trip.
We will spend 2 days or our 7 "Noshing Around the World" On one of those days we will have lunch in Morrocco and snack for dinner, but on the other day, - all day noshing for us.
We love the F & W fest, it is great fun, and good food samples to try.

As a fellow foodie I second Bistro de Paris as an excellent choice. It's by far my favourite on-site restaurant (I haven't tried V&A yet though).

The food is excellent modern style French cooking, and if you can get a window seat you can see a lot of Illuminations too.

Artist's Point was also excellent..their Cedar Plank Salmon was fantastic. I don't often oredr Salmon at restaurants as I find they tend to overcook it, but this was perfectly cooked. The whole dish had great flavour.

I have to second the Kona Cafe!!! I did not see this on your list. So I assume you have not tried it here. This is my all time favorite restaurant.
I would love to hear your review of this one!!!!

GOOOOO to Kona!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

P.S. I will look forward to your review where ever you go. :flower:

I think you've made a wise choice, Mister Disney, and I would like to submit a formal request (or maybe even a grovel) for you to write a review of the "snackies", as well as the review you write of whatever restuarant you decide on. Ok, here comes the grovel: Please, please, pretty please, with sugar and a cherry and a sandwich with crab legs sticking out of it on top, *please* will you write us a snackies review?

My DH and I will be at BCV and also will attend the Party for the Senses on the 15th. Can't wait. We have been to the W&F once and enjoyed the walk around the WS and samples of all the different food, beer and wine. We could not taste eveything in one day. Proves we are not "picky" eaters, eh? As for your dinner Sun, have you tried Palio in the Swan? We love it. They have a tortellini with a lobster cream sauce that is wonderful. I usually have that with angel hair or something lighter because I need to have the shrimp and white beans appetizer.

Have you tried just going from kiosk to kiosk at the F&W Festival? We did that one night and was full by the third kiosk. The food and the wine (oh my) was very good. I'm not a counter service girl, but the food was very good. I especially like Morocco, Mexico and Germany.

I like Peco's Bill (counter service near Splash Mountain) - they make a great Chicken Wrap. Casey's makes a great hot dog (I'm not into HD's).

How about BlueZoo in the Swan?

My DH says that about me, as well. Glad to know I'm not the only one out there!

I have to second Kona Cafe. I ate there 3 weeks ago and had the macadamia nut crusted Mahi Mahi over wild mushroom risotto. It was just perfect. I also had the seafood bisque and sticky wings (shared these with my aunt) and those were delicious too.

And kiluea torte is my favorite of all desserts! The chocolate must be valrhona or some really high quality because the flavor is exquisite! I must recommend this dessert without any reservations whatsover!

So, now that you have so many DISers adding to your suggestions, you sure do have your job cut out for you!

Have fun...

Anne :wizard:

MisterDisney:
We went last year. Enjoyed it, but would note it was quite noisy. The Dolphin/Swan had some sort of computer software convention going on, and the Zoo was full of tables of 8-10-12. Plus thier private "back room" was full of conventioneers as well.

I "third" Kona Cafe! (and I am an English teacher, lol) The food is creative and well prepared- duck pot stickers, a wonderful Kona Chowder which is more like a crab and shrimp bisque, macadamia crusted mahi-mahi, and more and the desserts are amazing!! I've done lunches and dinners there and have never been disappointed. This trip I will be doing another lunch or dinner as well as my first Kona breakfast.

It's a nice but casual atmosphere and I just love the Polynesian- the music, the tropical decor and various flora shining in the sun are very soothing to me. Mister Disney, I do not know if you are a coffee person, but the coffees there are the best in WDW (though admittedly it's not a hard competition to win) especially the Kona Press Pot. Yum.

Kona used to be a "hidden gem" but it is being "found out" and with all the changes to 'Ohana, (kettle chips instead of shrimp wontons was the change that broke Lulu's back here!) I think Kona will be getting more and more popular (maybe this was the plan all along?)

I also have enjoyed the samplings in the kiosks around WS- I went with a friend and we shared each sampling so we could taste more items. Standouts were a cold noodle salad from China, a Siberian milkshake and the chocolate fondue from France ( this was 2000 or 2001, will check)

Enjoy all your meals, wherever you go and I am looking forward to the reviews.

We are returning again this year for the Food and Wine Festival. You are going to have a Fantastic time. All the booths are open from the time the Countries open. There are so many food choices, and wonderful wines. If you enjoy wine, make sure you do the Australia walk-about. It was so much fun. Plus they have a free tasting three several times a day.

I understand that last year they had a beer walk-about also for I believe Samuel Adams. We didn't see it, but IPO told me to look for it this year.

Each country has special entertainment, and several of the booths have entertainment also. DH and myself spent a lot of time enjoying the Festival.

To suggest a new restaurant Wow, you have been to so many it is hard to suggest. We did enjoy our dinner at Mama Melrose’s in MGM. But, it certainly isn’t in the vain of a V&A or Jiko.

I am sending you a pm with a question.
