Movies You're Embarrassed You Like

I was curious to see how bad it was supposed to be, and was disappointed that it wasn't horrendous at all. I never understood all the hate it received. It's not a GOOD film by any criteria, just run of the mill fluff, but I ended up liking it.

That's it's problem. It's not bad enough to be funny in a laughing at it sort of way. It's not good either. It's just run of the mill fluff that is totally forgettable. It's akin to Shanghai Surprise with Madonna in the forgettable department.

Anyway I have you all beat. MARS ATTACKS. End of thread. I win.

I have no shame.

I think Mars Attacks and Tremors are terrific movies. I watched Shanghai Surprise multiple times. I really enjoyed Pixels!

And one of my all-time favourites is The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension. :teeth:

Who doesn't love a good cheese-fest?

I'm not sure I'd say I'm really embarrassed to like these, but...off the top of my head:

Jaws 2, 3 & 4
Sharknado 1-3
Evolution (with David Duchovny and Julianne Moore)
Snakes on a Plane
Arachnaphobia
Ouija

Disney-wise:
The Haunted Mansion (yes, the Eddie Murphy movie)
Tower of Terror

Basically, any really bad sci-fi/horror movie.

Not embarrassed but I love these that others have mentioned:

Lake Placid
Fifth Element

I'll add Mama Mia with Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnon (may have misspelled both of them). I love this movie. I own it. I watch it often. Can't turn away.
I also love Elvis movies. Yes, I said it, I love them and own them all.

I don't like it but my honey and son love a movie called Bubba Hotep. I leave the room when they are watching it.

Interestingly I get a lot more flak from people about NOT liking certain movies, that apparently I just HAVE to like. Some are:

The Nolan Batman films (The Dark Knight mostly)
Anything by Tarrantino (particularly Pulp Fiction, and Django Unchained)
Deadpool
Anything by Wes Anderson
2001: A Space Odyssey
X-Men 2 and X-Men Days of Future Past
The Hangover
The Godfather (yeah, I know)

I once got called an "unamerican communist" for not liking Michael Bay's Transformers movie. I think I'm winning that one though.

I thought I was the only person who didn't like Dark Knight, Pulp Fiction, 2001, and the Hangover
(Haven't watched X-Men and I do think the Godfather is a good movie)

I feel like people look their noses down at me, and then they try to explain the movies to me as if I'm just not smart enough.

As for movies I like...I'm not embarrassed to like any movies. Some movies I like because I watched them as a kid and enjoyed them. I can't think of any movies I like that are truly considered terrible by a ton of people. I love Dirty Dancing and Labyrinth, but I think both of those have a cult following...and both of those also have some redeeming artistry (songs, puppets, dancing, etc.) even if they aren't the best movies ever made.

Okay, I guess I am a little embarrassed that I LOVED Titanic. That song used to make me cry. I haven't seen it in years, though. I was 17, I think, when it came out.

Oh, I know! I have some friends that are just obnoxious about it, especially about Tarantino and Wes Anderson movies. I have been literally forced to watch them (not Clockwork Orange style or anything, they just bring over one of the movies they think I JUST HAVE to watch and say let's watch this tonight; They already know my misgivings). I usually fall asleep.

My thing about The Godfather is that while I recognize that it is a well-crafted movie, it just offers nothing for me. I do not care about terrible people doing terrible things to one another (it's why I HATE Tarantino movies). I don't care what criminals are doing, unless it's getting arrested, prosecuted, and brought to justice for their crimes. I generally don't like the crime drama genre at all.

Space balls

Spaceballs is an American classic - there should never be embarrassment associated with liking that movie.

Disclaimer: If I was wrong to assume that you inadvertently put a space in Spaceballs and you are referring to some intergalactic porno I'm not familiar with (not that I'm familiar with many of them :D ), please disregard the "American classic" comment earlier. ;)

My iPad auto corrected. I noticed it but didn't think anyone would QUOTE it. I have removed the space in between Space and Balls. I wouldn't want to offend anyone. Sorry

Freaked (Randy Quaid, Mr.T, Brooke Shields, etc.)
Definitely embarrassed to like it. I blame my roommate in my 20s who introduced the movie ...it was on scifi

If you've never heard of it, do yourself a favor and Google the description. That alone is worth something.

For a preview...Mr T plays a bearded lady.
I love Freaked!!!!
My favorite moment is the unmasking of Bobcat Goldthwait's character.

Both of the Bill and Ted movies.

Also there is this t(w)een movie from 1996 called Wish Upon a Star that stars Katherine Heigl and Danielle Harris. Used to air on The Disney Channel a lot. I've watched it way more times than I care to admit (taped it off the tv with a VHS!), and I wasn't even a high schooler anymore when I saw it for the first time. Imagine my glee when it showed up on Netflix several years later, LOL. I have no idea why I like it so much but I do.

Fools Rush In with Matthew Perry and Salma Hayek

Desperado with Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek

Hmm, maybe I have a thing for Salma, lol.

I can also watch The Fifth Element and the first Mummy movie with Brendan Fraser over and over.

The classic.....Masters of the Universe (1987). My kids and I watched this over and over in the late 80's and early 90's. Love that movie. Even to this day (my kids are now in their 30's) when one of us is leaving somewhere we say "Don't say goodbye, say Good Journey"

I just read that are making a reboot of it with talk of Chris Hemsworth as He-Man..hhmmm.

Love many of the movies listed upthread like Tremors, the Mummy movies, Night of the Comet, Day after Tomorrow, etc.
