We will be in the Morehead City area in August and are wondering if there is anything special to see.

I know we will explore the Pacific Ocean by scuba diving it but just don't know any thing else in the area.

any suggestions on things to do? special eats ?

thanks

Well if you are going to Morehead City, NC then you will be exploring the Atlantic Ocean not the Pacific.

http://www.morehead.com/ This is a good place to start. There are many thing to do in the area.

I'm from Swansboro and worked in Emerald Isle, both of which are about 20 minutes from Morehead City. Atlantic Beach is super close to Morehead, so is Beaufort. I really enjoy Ruddy Duck's for food in the downtown area of Morehead. I don't know much other stuff around Morehead, but I can help you out for stuff around EI or Swansboro if you choose to come down that way. They do have an awesome mini golf course down that way too--I think it's called Professor Hacker's Lost Treasure Golf & Raceway.

oops, sorry I know it is the Atlantic. thanks for the tips

Pine Knoll Aquarium and Fort Macon on the island off Morehead city are always stops for us.

We love the waterfront in Beaufort. And of corse, there is the beach! :beach:

Good question! We are going to be at Atlantic Beach, NC this summer so looking forward to reading more responses about the area. It looks beautiful.

It's been a few years since I've been, hope all this stuff is still there.

1) There was a yellow speed boat you could take for a tour around Shackleford Banks, Carrot Island and over to the Cape Lookout Lighthouse.

2) There was a paddleboat you could take for a tour of the intracostal waterway.

3) Beaufort has a self guided walking tour to see the old houses and cemeteries. http://www.beauforthistoricsite.org/

4) NC Maritime Museum http://www.ncmaritimemuseums.com/beaufort.html
