More hearing questions - telecoil and captioning

Hearing loss newbie here. My daughter is getting her first hearing aid in May. My understanding is that it should include a telecoil receiver (pretty standard, I believe, on BTE hearing aids now).

As a total newbie:
1) Is there anything we will need to do to activate telecoil (I imagine the audiologist will help with this)?
2) How will we know which activities are telecoil compatible?
3) Anything we should know in advance or warn her about (particularly loud shows, etc.?)

Re:captioning. She'll be 7 during our next trip, so I'm not sure how much captioning will benefit her. She's a good reader for her age, but I'm not sure how well she'll be able to keep up with captioning.

1) If she wants to try it out, who do we talk to? Do we have to arrange this in advance?
2) How unwieldy are the handheld captioning systems, if we have to carry one around all day?
3) What is the difference between reflexive captioning and handheld captioning?
4) If captioning isn't helpful due to her reading level, is it possible to ask to sit closer to the stage or to the speakers, etc., in order to increase her comprehension?

Thanks!

The audiologist will go over the specifics with you. My husbands' have a little switch to switch over to t-coil. One thing that bothers him about Disney and other crowded places was the amount of background noise that he was not used to before hearing aids, since they pick up so much. So that could be a challenge for her if you are going soon after she starts wearing them and she is not used to it. But sometimes he just turns them off for a bit if it is too distracting.

Below is what I received from Guest Services/Guest with Disabilities explaining the captioning and where it is available.
The handheld captioning thing we rented a few times. Go to Guest Services and there is a $25 refundable deposit. It is about the size of a sandwich or a PSP, comes with a lanyard. We didn't have the greatest of luck with them, sadly. But when it worked, it was great. The reflexive captioning is like a small sheet of acrylic that you hold at your seat and it reflects the captioning which is projected on the back wall of the theater.

Some shows are ASL-interpreted. For these, you definitely sit right near the front in the HC reserved section if you are hard of hearing. I don't think we have noticed any difference on where we sit as far as volume is concerned. Most of the stage shows are amplified through a sound system so being near the front was only more helpful if you were a lip reader or knew ASL. Although sometimes psychologically it may help. In theaters where the handicapped seating is near the front, I am sure you could ask to sit there. In some places that is the back row of the theater, so that would not help you. It never hurts to ask a CM before you get in line if you find you need to sit in a specific area.

Good luck to her. It can take some getting used to. If you have time before you go, try going to the movies, mall, crowded restaurants, etc. so she can see how they work in different situations. also you can contact Disney Guest services for Guests with Disabilities. Their info is on the WDW website.
