Such beautiful pictures! I was a bit confused though, when you said ham salad....here where I live a ham salad is chopped up ham mixed with chopped celery, relish and mayo.... the State I live in I can drive across town and run into a different accent, different food. We actually have an international section, the barrio, an area where the people from back east (mostly NY) live and then the parts of town where the California transplants are. Actually we have a lot of transplants in our State from many surrounding states. We natives call them all foreigners. We're a melting pot,
Thanks, we do have a lovely country.
Yes, ham salad....chicken salad....shrimp salad....tuna salad are all a little bit different here.
If we have a ham salad on a plate....we have two or three slices of baked ham or any other style, and a salad and usually coleslaw on the plate too.....not all mixed up together.....
First time I ordered shrimp salad in America I was a little bemused.....so yes, when we order a ham salad sandwich, you get sliced ham with lettuce, tomato and cucumber on top......I`m sure it confuses folks the other way too when they expect what they`re used to.......
Don`t even mention shrimp cocktail!!!! Our shrimp comes mixed with a Marie Rose sauce....usually mayo, ketchup and some cayenne pepper. First time I ordered a shrimp cocktail I wondered what the weird red sauce to the side was I liked it though!
I hear you on the foreigners......lol.....yes, in the UK even locals can sound different. If you live 20 miles away you can sound so different. In Scotland I can usually tell where someone is from just by listening. But, yes, a melting pot is about right.
We were very impressed on a trip when a waiter asked us to speak and he`d guess where we were originally from.......and he got it almost spot on!
