May 25, 2012 - Magical 8-night cruise - NYC to the Bahamas!

So I too am in need of losing a few pounds before this cruise. I say we post goals and update atleast weekly if not more. Who's in???

Goal-20lbs
walking one mile a day

I'm in for losing a few pounds. I would like to lose 20 pounds as well. I'm trying to get to the gym 3 times a week and eat right! Now that the holidays are over, I have no excuse.

Caryn

I'M IN!!!! Just ate my last meal of chinese food! hehehe
I was doing sooooo well before Halloween/thanksgiving - then blew it! Lost 20 lbs, then came the milky way and snickers, then turkey and stuffing, now Christmas cookies and meal after meal! :) I will NOT do a New Years resolution, they never work for me..

I joined gym back in October and I'm going to attempt a few yoga classes this week.. jump on the treadmill or walk, since the weather has been so iffy here, I'm going to get my IPOD out and music updated and move a bit tomorrow..

I have to, cough cough cough, lose about 50-75 lbs, so..... EEEK!!! I better get moving!! :cool1:

I'm definitely in!!! I need to lose about 50-75 lbs as well, although I'd be thrilled to be down *anything* by the time we cruise! LOL

We just had Chinese food for dinner too. :rolleyes1 There is NO food in the house, and I/we just didn't make it to the food store today. So.... tomorrow DH will be back at work, and I will go food shopping (my first day of unemployment!!) and buy healthy foods. :thumbsup2

I went and stocked up on chicken, veggies and my yogurts...

I was following the Dukan Diet, losing the 20 lbs and it's similiar to the Atkins diet, I'm a carbaholic! so it's hard for me to stick to anything diet related.

I've been to Weight Watchers more times than I can count, do well and then boom, one cookie, then two, then three! LOL

I'm not able to stick to it, tried those fads too, I really think I need to just eat better and move, and learn that my emotions go right to my hips!!! ;)

What yogurt do you like? I got hooked on Chobani Greek yogurt. It's thick and creamy and has twice the protein of regular yogurt, but you do have to watch the sugar/carbs, even though most of their flavors are fat-free.

A few years ago DH and I did the South Beach diet and we loved it. It really suited us, and after a while we didn't even feel like we were on a "diet". It's low carb, low fat, and is good for DH's diabetes and heart issues (he had a massive heart attack in May 2010). It was written by a cardiologist and DH's doctors have approved it.

I think I'm going to stock up on the foods that follow that way of eating, since we really liked it and had great success with it. Like anything else, it's the KEEPING with it that is the hardest part! lol

lmao@keeping with it --- totally agree.

I was far from a yogurt eater before starting the dukan diet.

I ate yoplait, red velvet cake, but that's not like yogurt and like you said, LOTS of sugar!!

I have been using the chobani greek non fat, plain, adding 1 splenda packet and about 1 teas. of sugar free jello... only way I can get it down and it was working for me, I was eating 1-2 yogurts per day and staying full as you said, being high in protein.

I bought a bunch today and I'm just going to eat those for breakfast along with some eggs, stay away from carbs and have my lunch and dinner, within reason.. Hopefully moving around will get the lbs off! :)

Georgette,
I don't know what they officially call it but the Counselors from the Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab appear about half way through dinner every night (at Parrot Cay, Lumiere's and Animator's Pallate) to escort children back to the Oceaneer Club or Lab. If your child wants to get some more time in at the kid's club, let your waiter know in advance. The wait staff will rush your child's dinner order through, so while you're eating a liesurely appetizer, the kids get their entree. By the time they scarf down their dessert, the counselors arrive to pick them up! Then before you can say "Bibbity Bobbity Boo!" they're gone and you can relax and eat:yay:

Day 1 of Good Eating went well, but there was no exercise for me! At least 2 out of my 3 kids will be going back to school tomorrow.:cool1:

I know that I don't diet well, so changing my food won't really work for me. I'll need to find a way to add in exercise, but with 3 young kids, I always seem to find a good excuse not to!

When the weather was good, I was walking, but now that I actually need to get to a gym, I'm having a much harder time motivating myself!

Very nice!!

On Norwegian this past May to Bermuda, my DDs first cruise, she was in the Kids Klub nonstop. We hardly saw her and she talks about it all the time STILL!
I'm sure it'll be the same on Disney.

I just read kids can move to the lab and club themselves? Is that a good idea?

Okay --- Have a quick question as I work on my FE and my FE gifts...

Since i've never done it before, please forgive my ignorance....

Do we give an item per cabin .. or item per person in the cabin, age appropriate of course and how many times, 1x per week or every night?

Thanks!!!

HNY~~~ popcorn::
The choice is yours - I personally give one per cabin (because of what I give) however many choose to give one per person. It is usually one gift per cruise per which ever you choose (cabin or person)

Hi Everyone,

My name is Caryn and myself, my husband and 3 kids will be joining in! I have twin sons that are 6 and daughter that will be 2 when we sail. We are looking forward to it! It's our second disney cruise. We've never done Fish Extenders before, but would love to join in.

Caryn:cool1:
Caryn - welcome!

Send me your dis name, real name, who is traveling with you and the kids ages. If you have any special considerations for anyone in your cabin (allergies etc). If you choose to send your email include it (this will NOT be put on the google doc). The link in my signature will take you to the google doc.

Hi guys!
Yes! We love doing fish extenders and will definitely participate in that. On our last cruise, they broke the FE's into groups. Ours had 40 people (don't recall how many cabins).

Susan/MermaidMama
you are added!

I want to wish everyone a happy and healthy new year...I am starting it out with a nasty sinus infection (typical for me in the winter) So, I know the rest of the year will be just fine!!!

Hello Fellow Cruisers. My family just booked a reservation on May 25 sailing on the Magic. We are very excited to be joining you. We have sailed on one Disney Cruise before (a 3-Day cruise on the Wonder in September 2006). The 3 day one was very rushed so we are looking forward to having the time to really enjoy everything there is to offer on the ship this time. Our information for the roll call is Me (Cora), DH (Jake), DS (Sam - 10 at time of sailing), DD (Emma - will be turning 7 during the cruise), and DS (Max - 4). We would love to participate in the FE, I will send our information.

I don't have enough posts to send a PM yet, so as soon as I get a couple more posts written, I will send along the information for the FE.

How old is your daughter? I'd say for ages 5 and up it's OK for them to move between the two clubs on their own. The clubs are right across from eachother and the counselors keep a watchful eye. My youngest was 5 1/2 last sailing and she loved going between the two clubs because her big sister was mostly in the Oceaneer Lab, but sometimes she preferred being in the Oceaneer Club where the princesses and characters make frequent appearances. Like yours, my girls didn't want to leave the club either and I think they went back at dinnertime every night we'd let them.

Are you preparing for Pirate Night? On our first Disney cruise, we didn't know that it was such a big deal. Hubby slept in the cabin with (then 4 y/o) Sydney and I took Sophia (then 6) up on deck for Pirate Night and fireworks. We had such fun and did a better job of preparing for it on last year's cruise. Even more preparation this time - The day after Halloween, I went to the costume shop and bought half price pirate costumes for the whole family! I've got it bad huh?

WELCOME CORA & FAM! How exciting for Emma to celebrate her b'day on the cruise! :cool1: My DD, Sydney, will be turning 7 three weeks after we return from the cruise. We should be sure to introduce them at our Meet and Greet.

Does anyone know if a Meet & Greet has been planned yet?

Susan

Lots of people joining this thread, hooray!!

I'm another one in desperate need of losing weight. Am on day 5 of my diet and having a hungry day here. Really need to perserve with it though, as feel so big and uncomfortable.

Me2 :) Unsure which Diet or w/e I will follow this time - seems I try them all :) :rotfl2:

Had english muffin for breakfast with a cup of tea...

Having yogurt now...

So who knows!

Do you guys have Cambridge Diet over there? I'm basically doing the equivalent, just a different brand. If I can stick to it for any length of time I could lose a lot of weight, as it is basically food replacement. However, I've tried before and only lasted a couple of weeks, as it is just so boring.

Going to try much much harder this time, and not give in to temptation! I wasn't hungry (its kind of like atkins in that it sends you into ketosis so you don't get hungry), it literally was boredom and craving real food. So, we'll see!

Welcome Cora! So excited to hear about more families joining us! This is also our second disney cruise and our short trip was on the Dream. It was a beautiful ship, but the time passed way to quick! I'm hoping to explore more and be able to relax a bit more this time around.

Padalyn - I'm in the same boat as Cora. I don't have enough posts to PM yet, so hopefully, I'll be able to get you that info soon.

Hi Susan:

There hasn't been a plan made for a Meet & Greet yet, as far as I know. :3dglasses

I've been feeling huge for the past several months. I gained quite a few pounds last year. :sad2:

The Cambridge Diet sounds a little familiar, but not sure if it's the same as what you have there. I think that finding a diet plan that will work is similar to finding the perfect pair of jeans - They both have to "fit" just right or they're no good.

Hang in there, my fellow dieters! :yay: How does everyone feel about "weighing in" each Monday?? Or if a different day is better, just let me know. :)

Yeah welcome to everyone!!!

Susan- I have been preparing for pirate night and can't wait!!! It's really me and Nicole that get into the Disney thing, the boys well...

I did walk today for a little over a mile. Now just to get the diet in check.

So excited to see everyone on here. I have started to think about the fish extenders and have already bought a few things!!!!
