May 2024 WISH Thread

Forgot to come back on and answer my own prompt -

I agree with stronger sunshine inspiring me to move more. We're working on getting the pool open, so that will add in some swimming (but honestly, it's more just floating 😆 ) The real change comes when school lets out, though - my neighbor is a teacher, so she has more time then and we go for more and longer walks.

Helllo!!!!!! Catching up!!

Topic Tuesday-YES I have been motivated and made changes recently. I was inspired by a speaker at my church’s women’s conference to just get up early and I started to get up 20 minutes earlier to start and this week I am up to 35 mins earlier. I am going to increase slowly until I am up to a hour.

What do I do with this extra time? Well, I read my daily readers Bible then I journal using the SOAP method, which I also learned at my conference. That was my first 20 extra minutes…now with my additional 15 I do a 15 minute yoga video from YouTube! My body feels so much better just after 2 weeks of doing this consistently!!

Whoooohooooo Wednesday-it’s my last day of work for the week! I took leave tomorrow to help my sister, her Thursday babysitter is on vacation so I am watching my niece tomorrow and Friday, she’s also sleeping over. I think I will get the porch cleaned up tomorrow…thinking of putting a little pool up for the summer…we will see!

Have a great day everyone!

My WooHoo is that we're leaving tomorrow night for a long-weekend getaway! We're flying into Orlando and then doing a weekend cruise from Port Canaveral. I never thought I'd enjoy 3 or 4 night cruises until we tried one last Labor Day and really enjoyed it. I think it would be a bit much if you were having to get your whole family on and off one, but for just DH and me, we had a great and relaxing time!

What is the SOAP method?

I will say, I love reading about the activity level of your church. Our church used to be like that, but things just really slacked off when we got our current pastor. I really like him, but he definitely doesn't promote "extra" activities. We are actually getting a new pastor at the end of June, so maybe it'll be a little easier getting back into some more bonding activities when he's here.

Here is a photo of the bookmark they made for us for “SOAP”, it been working great for me so far! image.jpg
I have to tell you, we searched high and low for a church for years and were truly blessed to find ours. If we wanted to be busy every day of the week with something at church, we could. I have noticed the more our children/youth ministries grow the more groups and opportunities are created, I think young families mixing with older families is the key to a thriving church community-at least based on what I have seen.

I hope your new pastor can turn things around for you! If not you could always look for a women’s group or study at another church! Sometimes women from other churches come and join us for a bit then start their own groups at their church 😊

Woowhoo my new sneakers should be ok for the 5k. I have a well worn pair that is getting uncomfortable so I ordered a pair that was super uncomfortable when I tried them. So I ordered a different pair that aren’t the cutest but I did an indoor 5k today and they were just beginning to get sore near the end. Considering this was the first time I wore them I will take that as a win.
Woowhoo I didn’t feel AWFUL after the indoor 5k. It ended up clocking in as a smidge less (2.65 miles in 40 mins) but according to my watch I was doing 15 min miles so that will give me plenty of wiggle room for the one hour max time in a couple weeks. Just hoping it isn’t as hot on run day as it was today because I was sweaty!

Thankful (for like the 80th time) for kids with decent immune systems and the modern world of OTC meds. Allergy season is in full swing some nighttime doses of allergy meds followed by morning decongestants is the routine right now.
Thankful for children that are observant, curious and care for other creatures. A nest of bunnies took up residence in an old play house. Before we knew they were there DD had gone to play in the house only to backtrack and find something else to do, she has steered clear ever since. The boys discovered the nest on Tuesday and have been periodically poking their heads in to see the bunnies being careful to vacate when the sun starts going down as the parents return. Last night we realized the nest includes a space next to the playhouse so DS11 put a lawn chair next over it to ensure no one trips on them. After karate last night he spent an hour outside sitting on the chair and keeping the bunnies company.

I am so thankful today is a half day and I'm headed home at lunchtime. It's been good but I've had my fill. I mentioned starting to monitor moods/emotions in relation to over stimulation and I've found myself in a rather foul mood this morning. When I was working with the counselor we never quite figured out where this kind of anger came from, but now I know. And for that I am also thankful.

Today I'm thankful for family. Tuesday night my mom took us all out (my family and my sister's family) as it was the 20th anniversary of my dad passing away. My mom is very emotional and I wasn't sure what she would do exactly, but she created what she called "Bob trivia" (my dad's name was Bob) and asked various questions about his life. My sister and I knew most everything she talked about, but the grandkids learned a lot and it was really fun talking about the kind of person he was and the various things he had done throughout his (too short) life.

I'm very thankful that all my kids were able to be there because it was very important to my mom and it ended up being a wonderful evening.

I am again going to put my woohoo and Thankful Thursday together. I am so happy and thankful that the stroke symptoms DD had on Monday were just a migraine. It was scary. The left side of her mouth was not moving when she talked and her left leg was weak. Neurologist sent us to the ER where they treated her like she was having a stroke. The amount of tests that she had done in the short amount of time was amazing. We even quickly had our first ambulance ride to the children's hospital here. Thankfully everything came back negative. We go back this afternoon to the Neurologist so hopefully we have a better plan to stop these.

I am also woohooing that DS graduates tomorrow. They had the awards ceremony this morning and I was doing pretty good until one of his teachers told me he is a great kids and I raised him right. Also, he can't wait to teach with DS after he graduates (DS was selected for a program/scholarship where he will automatically get a job teaching at his home district. Everything is also falling into place for him and he is officially signed up for his college. He will be living at home and he is ok with that. He has a few other friends doing the same thing. It is just so much cheaper. It also helped that this is the college my mom graduated from (she is a teacher) and one of the best colleges for teaching around here. He will come out of school with $20,000 or less in loans too.

I need a double reaction button for your post -

It's so wonderful about your DS but so scary about your DD!!! Fingers crossed the neurologist can get things under control.

And Congrats - blue.png to the graduate!

Just got back from the Neurologist and we have answers!!!!!!!!! 2 years ago she had symptoms of POTS but her BP and heart rate did not jump to the number where they would say that it was POTS. Well it is rearing it's ugly head again. Her migraines, the funny feeling in her legs the dizziness and being nauseous are all symptoms of POTS. her BP and heart rate didn't jump to the point that they would officially call it POTS but as the doctor said if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck it is a duck. She doesn't want to put DD through another test so we are treat the same way we did last time. She will be on the same med from 2 years ago and will also continue with the maintaince migraine med. She also thinks that when DD couldn't see one day in 5th grade that she had one of the migraines like she did on Monday and not anxiety that caused it.

So another Thankful for today. I am so thankful to have answers and a plan.

Shaping up to be a decent weekend here for the arts and crafts fair. DS11 and DD both have head colds but hopefully they’ll clear out later.
Had a bit of a “what am I doing” panic moment last night about the 5k and not having trained enough. But then it occurred to me that while I may not have been training to “run” specifically I have been doing some form of exercise at least 3 times a week since the start of the month. Will I finish first? Nope. Will I run the whole thing? Definitely not. Will I cross the finish line within 60 minutes? Those odds are considerably better. Just got to stay motivated and not let that fear of “failure” get to me. It has derailed so much over the years

This is great news!

I accidently left my laptop charging cord in the office yesterday, so lucky me today is going to be a short day as I only have half a battery charge.

Reporting back on my vagus nerve exercises... I definitely felt "myself" already when I drove off the ferry, so I think they helped. But I my level of ager didn't noticeably dissipate until bedtime and I'm still a bit cranky this morning. Tracking the emotional connection is new, so now that I know it, I can work on managing myself differently so that I don't get to that point.

It is cold and rainy this morning, and that will continue thru the weekend. No big plans, but I think I'll check the ferry reservations and see if I can go to Whidbey Island tomorrow.
