Mardi Gras 2017: Evie's 6th Birthday at WDW*updated with Mardi Gras pics*

The 2016-2017 school calendar is out and it makes it seem more official! Woohoo!

We also got our bonuses, did our taxes and now have our savings plan in place for the trip. :woohoo:

Hey Dayna!

Things sound like they're going well! Tax refunds AND bonuses are both awesome ways to "save" for Disney. Happy birthday, Evie!!

I just finished getting caught up on your planning! I don't currently have any children, but I'll need to remember some of the things you've mentioned for when I do! I can't wait to see how the rest of your planning goes, and how much fun you all have on your trip next year!

Thanks, I need to get back to it! :)

Real life has been so busy! Since the weekend before Easter, we've had a birthday party to attend every weekend. Just this past weekend, we had a birthday party, then went over to another friend's house that night. Then we went to Circ du Soleil presents Ovo in our hometown!

The show was a bit expensive but so worth it, as it was AMAZING!

This morning, Evie tested for the best elementary school in the state. It is a magnet school and out of 100s of applicants, 52 students going to kindergarten are accepted. Evie was excited going in, poker faced coming out and said she did good. That's all she would give me. :/
We did pray before the test and I'm hoping it went good. But as Pete the Cat says, "It's all good."

I took off the day of work for the test. Afterwards, we all went to eat and then I took Evie to a trampoline park that just opened up here. Then we went to the library where she used her own library card to check out books. :) Rob has her at swim class now. She should sleep good tonight! (Since I jumped on the trampolines, I will probably sleep good too!)

Not much progress on the trip planning home front. I've been corresponding with a travel agent so I'm getting more details. I'll update the first post of the thread as I get more details.

I do hope she can get into what sounds like a really nice school for her. :) A good fit is pretty important.

The show does look like a really wonderful production! I've only done 1 Cirque, and it was totally worth it!!

Thank you! The school competes on a national level so it is hard to not want her to go there. Things will work out as they were meant to though. We did prepare but weren't militant about it as we want her to fit the school, like you mention.

The show was AMAZING. Rob and I did Zumanity (ooh la la) in Vegas. So we've done 2 out of a ton of shows. I love the artistry of the shows.
I'm not going to lie, coming from a chemical plant and very safety conscientious back ground, some things I saw did make me cringe. I know they are the experts and are highly trained but it is ingrained in me to have to tie off above a certain level!

Did you hear any news on her placement?

In 2013 a French woman fell to her death at the MGM show. Very sad, and Yeah, not sure what their protocols are, but I saw the same thing. Maybe they are just super good at blending the cables and we don't see them?

We did hear about her placement and she didn't get in for this year. It is all part of God's plan because we found out some devastating news on Friday. Evie has leukemia and we are currently in Texas Children's in Houston. We have a FB page Evie's Journey for updates.

We went to Urgent Care after school on Thursday because Evie was complaining that her ears hurt. She got a prescription for antibiotics for an ear infection. While there, I noticed a strange bruise underneath her jaw and one on her shoulder and asked the dr to take a look at them. The dr recommended blood work and we decided to get the blood work done right then and there. The next day I was called by Urgent Care saying the blood work looked abnormal, it was being sent to the Path Lab for analysis and to make an appt with her regular dr for Monday. I did that and then a couple of hours later I got the call requesting that we bring Evie to the Children's Clinic as soon as possible. Once there, her finger was pricked and blood work re-run. The results indicated leukemia and the Children's Clinic called Texas Children's hospital as we went home to pack so that we could leave right away.

We checked in late Friday night and since then Evie has had platelet transfusions and a blood transfusion in anticipation of a bone marrow biopsy and other procedures today.

She has also had a dosage of other medicines in anticipation of procedures that will take place today. She will get a bone marrow biopsy, which will definitively tell us which type of leukemia she has. She will also have a spinal tap to check for cancerous cells and a general round of chemo. She will be asleep for this procedure.

*Evie's team did a preliminary analysis of the cancer cells on Saturday (4/30) and are leaning towards ALL with a standard risk. It cannot be confirmed until the bone marrow biopsy on Monday but is very likely. This is good news.

I asked the dr based on what she saw how long she thought Evie had leukemia and she said not more than a month. I'm blown away with how quickly this comes on. The dr said this is why it is called acute leukemia.

She is still her happy-go-lucky, energetic self and is as busy as ever. She does not like all of the sticks she has been getting but has been very brave and resilient.

Evie had NO other obvious symptoms of leukemia besides the two strange looking bruises.

Other updates are on the FB page Evie's Journey. Your prayers are appreciated!!!

OH MY GOD, Dayna! Although devastating news, it is one of the most curable cancers. Take heart and know that your DISFamily is praying for little Evie and you both as well. PLEASE let us know if there is anything more we can do on our end. Our Father has you firmly in his Hands.

Can you PM me a link to the FB page??

Invited to come over by Liesa (Steppesister) so joining in. Looks like it might take a little while to get all caught up.

I'm sorry to hear about Evie. I'm glad that it was caught so early. Saying a prayer for your family as you go through this tough time.

Liesa mentioned your plight over on her TR and asked for prayers.
Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and in my prayers.

I was also sent here from Liesa and am sending you lots of good thoughts for Evie!! What a shock this must be and how lucky that you did notice those bruises and asked about them just in time!! I hope she will stay her happy self through all the procedures coming up!

I was sent also by Liesa, but in addition you had so e great suggestions for me on my PTR when I went to LA. I didn't realize you had a PTR going.

However this news takes priority over anything else. Your family and especially your daughter are in my thoughts, and I hope that the early detection works to your benefit and everything works out. Stay strong and know that we are all behind you!

HI Dayna, I've been an infrequent lurker on your thread but wanted to come out of lurkedom to let you know you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. You're going through a very tough time and your DIS family is here for you. Wishing you all the best.

Kelly
