Marathon Weekend 2017!

This is my first runDisney event, so these goals/wishes are in that light:
1. Keep the trip a surprise from the 2 and 4 year old until we leave on the 1st.
2. Try not to get too exhausted chasing two kids around during the week leading up to Saturday & Sunday.
3. Don't go out too fast in the half. I've done well during my last two double weekends but I know what the race environment can do to a good pace.
4. Enjoy it. My schedule won't allow this to be a regular occurrence so I want to soak it all in.

That's what I'm hoping for!I started at sunrise so it was just getting hot and humid when I finished! I am ready to run on a flat course! Are you running Little Rock in March?

I haven't committed to Little Rock yet, though it would be nice to revisit that race; 2012 was my first-ever (and only up to now) full and my training this time around has been much more consistent. If not for doing two back-to-back races with the Goofy, I'm confident I would be able to take off close to an hour from my 2012 time. For anything longer than about 7 miles, I typically head to the river trail. I much enjoy that over the hills in my neighborhood but I keep reminding myself that it makes for good training!

@DopeyBadger please add me to your spreadsheet:

RACE - Marathon
NAME - John
DIS'er name - jhorstma
Costume/Clothing - Mickey Mouse
Corral - G
Early Bird or Late Arriver - Early
Front, Middle, or Back of corral - Back
Expected Pace - 10:30, and walking the water stations

@DopeyBadger - Many thanks for the e-gel recommendation. It took me a few long runs to get used to them, but now that I have my needs figured out these gels have turned out to be perfect for my needs. I completed a slow 24 miler today (slow on purpose, as I was trying to mimic my stop/start strategy in WDW). I never felt the energy highs or lows that I have become accustomed to over the years on runs longer than 20 miles. With 3 runs longer than 20 miles in the last 6 weeks, all using e-gels, and all with great energy, I think that I have found my new formula for success.

:thumbsup2
This! And the TriSlide (think that came from @CheapRunnerMike)...

As far as running-related wish list, I'd like to see if I can accomplish my race goal - something I've been able to do for shorter races, but never tried for a marathon. Roughly 13 two-mile segments at a steady 10 minute/mile pace, with 1 minute walks at the water stations to make sure I'm getting the necessary amount of water for the e-gels. I'm curious to see how I'm holding up come WWOS.

Oh, and I look forward to seeing MK all lit up before sunrise...

I am surprising my kids on Christmas morning also! I have an idea what I am doing to reveal the surprise--what are you doing?

My wife did the runDisney virtual races this summer so we have wrapped up a couple of those medals in a box for the kids to open Christmas morning. We also got them new swimming backpacks so we were thinking that we might throw some Disney luggage tags on them as a bit of a clue. Looking forward to hearing what you and @Baloo in MI end up doing!

Because I KNOW @FFigawi loves matching skirts!
Fixed that for you ;)

Alright everyone, attached is the PDF which is the first draft of the Marathon Weekend DIS List. This is the first draft as I expect when some people see this they may decide they want to join in as well. If you have any input that would help make the sheet more useful for you please let me know. I have sorted everyone by corral and pace within corral so that like paced people can find each other if they wish to do so. Also, please QA your information you have provided me for mistakes and let me know. If anyone gave me a range of paces for an individual race I typically chose the middle of the range. I anticipate sending out the final copy on Dec 27th/28th to allow as much time for stragglers to get their times in. Almost time everyone!

Wow @DopeyBadger great job! But I am feeling very slow and lonely there in the back. :(

WISHLIST
- Finish. I fell down my front steps packing the car for our Thanksgiving Disney trip and sprained my ankle something terrible. It sucks to make it through the year injury free and then BAM.
- Eat all the O'hana skrimps.
- See the Star Wars spectacular at DHS. Jingle Bam was going for our November trip and I'm hoping SW will be back for race weekend. If not, this moves to my March wishlist.

Finish all the miles/ Eats all the shrimps is a good goal. That's been my goal the past couple years.

I have my annual shrimp tail pile picture.

I have a love/hate with the 'Ohana shrimp...I love them because they are so yummy, but I hate them as I always end up being the designated shrimp peeler at my table.

I am surprising my kids on Christmas morning also! I have an idea what I am doing to reveal the surprise--what are you doing?

I have wrapped four boxes. Three have notes in them and the fourth has the bands. I am putting the first box under the tree with the first note. It is a clue to the next one. They will have to open each box and figure out the clue that leads them to the next box. It leads to the fourth box that has the bands which will be hidden in the living room in a chest.

I am hoping they are as excited as I am. Right now they are convinced I am going solo, doing my best not to spoil it.
