Marathon Weekend 2016

So, um.... I transferred my half registration to the FULL. Apparently I'm in the 1st Time Marathon Attempt Club now, too :)

WOOT WOOT welcome to the club

Got to ask how did you get this shirt?? was it through disney store or else where? I am signed up for the 2016 Star Wars Half Marathon weekend and would love one of these - just wondering how to get one if it becomes available. Thanks

Disney put them out the same day as WDW marathon weekend races went on sale, they had them for the 5k, 10k, half, marathon, Dopey and goofy....not sure if they will do them for any of the other race weekends or not, I have a feeling this may have been a test to see how well they sell because we basically had to pre purchase them and they didn't ship them out until now

Has anyone taken JetBlue to WDW? Trying to decide if it would be better to fly with them than to drive if I wind up taking the wife and kid.

I take JetBlue from NY every time I go down to Florida. 95% of the time we have good experiences, but our flight down to FL in February (for Princess Weekend) was a problem - long delay before we boarded, long delay on the runway with no information, no coffee ... it was not a good flight and we ended up landing over an hour late (maybe even more - I don't remember) and being really annoyed about it. We flew out of a different airport than we usually do, so I don't know if that was a factor and if the experience varies based on the departure airport.
In terms of prices, we've gotten some good sales and some medium prices, but it's never too expensive (at least in terms of what we're willing to pay).

Are you coming from the Austin area? Being in DFW, I'm pretty much a slave to AA (because of non-stop flights, status and points) - but when I have the opportunity to fly JetBlue to the East Coast, I do. Cost being roughly the same, I greatly prefer it to Southwest (I get free checked bags on AA, so the "free" bag thing is moot to me. But JetBlue gives you a free checked bag). I like being assigned a seat - and the seats on JetBlue are definitely roomy AND the in-seat entertainment might be a plus if you're traveling with a little one - each seat has a TV screen in the opposite headrest that has DirecTV (channel selections depend on what model plane you're on).

I guess it really depends on how long you plan on staying. We drive to Orlando every year for the holidays, but I refuse to make that 18-hour drive unless we're in Orlando for a minimum of two weeks AND we do a day or two stopover in New Orleans (I'm so high maintenance).

If you can swing it $$ wise, I would definitely fly on JetBlue. It would definitely be a nice treat for pre and post-marathon weekend travel.

Submitted my proof of time today - love the way it is done now, though I hate not having proof that I submitted the time or that it has been confirmed until after it is too late to do anything about it if there is a problem.

Yeah I've never liked how you never know if they've verified it until it's too late to do anything. I wish they would verify it and then give you a chance to re-enter another time (but it wouldn't be verified until the window closes) or choose to keep it.

If I bring the boy (who is signed up for a kids race) and the wife, flying will be the only option, 2-3 hour flight compared to 18+ hours driving? No brainer.

Strongly considering having my race costumes shipped though, I should have brand new stormtrooper armor ready by then, and don't want anything happening to it :p

Still up in the air though on if the wife and son can make the trip; finances are super tight with his medical bills piling up (he had to get an MRI and see a specialist for his febrile seizures), with the outstanding bill still to come from the anesthetic group (who happen to be out of network and don't apply to the 2000 out of pocket, AWESOME)

And yes, flying out of Austin :)

If it's cheaper, you can always just send it to me up in DFW. We're driving out right before Christmas (my parents live about 7 minutes from Downtown Disney), and I can drop it at your hotel for you!

I'm sorry to hear about your son -- my BFFs niece had febrile seizures early on, so I know all about everything that goes into that and how freakin' scary they can be!

@Keels you are freakin awesome!

Submission deadline is Oct 6th

awesome Ive got 3 halfs scheduled between now and then so hopefully I can nab that sub 2 hour PR im hoping for, although one of them is a trail race so it probably wont be that one LOL. Im not sure how much of a difference that will make over my current 2:04 PR but I really want to get under 2 this year

You can fly from Austin, TX to WDW? Do you still change in Houston? All available flights for us change in Houston and after our latest experience (dodging the floods) we're looking for other options.

Well, we just wait listed today for BCV, since I've been told that's much more convenient for race spectators and for returning to your villa afterwards. Anyone have a crystal ball and have a guess of my chances of the wait list coming through? DH is so excited about running the Dopey. He's religiously following Jeff Galloway's running plan-he's from the 70's, when I think both he and Jeff were Marathon runners. And he just found out yesterday from a volunteer that for the Dopey he'll get 6 medals. Can someone verify this?

You get 6 shirts and 6 medals for the Dopey. Assuming it is similar to past years he'll receive a cotton shirt and silicone medal for the 5K and a tech shirt and metal medal for the other 5 competitions (10K, Half, Full, Goofy, and Dopey).

I only run one race per year for time. That is my way of making sure that running remains fun and provides stress relief instead of increasing my stress levels. I'll run other races this year, but at a relaxed pace. I am a middle of the pack runner with a solid and consistent 4 hour marathon pace. That is good enough for me. :teeth:

So would submitting my 4:05 marathon or 1:52 half get me a better coral...or does it make a difference?

I can definitely understand that thought process as well, for me the fun comes in trying to better myself but I don't get hung up on the fact that it may not happen every race either, if I hit my goal time then AWESOME if I don't then it just wasn't meant to be that day and ill try again next time. im strictly middle of the pack as well...as my times show and I am ok with that I run for me and to better myself not necessarily to beat others

d everyone (like Keels) get their "I'm training for the..." shirts yet?

Yup got mine Monday and took it out for its maiden voyage on my Wednesday run and promptly got caught in a rainstorm :scared:

along this same line anyone have any idea what the time to corral breakdown might look like? IE what times it will take to get what corral?
