This is a report about my family's trip on the Disney Magic from March 26 to April 2. In our party was myself, my wife and my two sons, 10 and 12 years old.

First day, Saturday, March 26, Port Canaveral
Show up at around 12:30 from being dropped off Wingate by Wyndham. Check in was a breeze, navigator in hand. Submit the family paperwork and get our security photo. Out of line in 5 minutes. Wait for photo with Mickey in front of the ship model. The wait was about 10 minutes, enough time for my son to hit bathroom. Check in with child services, and my 10 year old got upset about having a wrist band on. So after 10 minutes of being upset we had it cut off, he wanted to have nothing to do with having that wristband on. Boarding number 15, when we entered the number was 8. Our wait was about 20 minutes tops before our number was called. The entry announcement seemed rather low key compared to what other reports have said. We were on the boat by 1:00 and left to wander the ship.
We wandered to find our room on the 5th floor and stopped at Oceaneers Lab to see if our 10 yr old would take a tour around. A happy and energetic employee tried her best to get him to try it out, even offering to remove the wristband each time he leaves, but still no luck.
Looking for room, but our hall was closed, it is not 1:30 yet. So off we go to investigate further in boat.
When we got to our room it did seem small, narrow. Not knowing what to do with ourselves we grab lunch at Pluto’s dogs, brat, burger, chicken strips and Cajun chicken, very good. Trips to ice cream bar. A tip that we learned later, go over to the coffee area and grab one of the foam cups and use that for ice cream, you can get a lot more in that cup than the ones at the station.
The Wife and kids wander around the ship while I try to catch nap. I am woken by bags being delivered. Trying to unpack all our stuff in space, it fit but it was close.
Kick off pool party was tough for us at the start, the boys were not having any of it. Wife and I started being silly to get them moving, it worked a little for our 12 yr old. Waved good bye to employees on shore. We're surprised by the coast guard presence with machine gun in tow escorting us out of port. Lots of friendly boats waving, especially the small boat where the guy held up 2 enormous crabs, he must have caught.
Off to the all aboard show, having just seen a few musicals back home, the shows musical portions were definitely Disneyfied. Kinda corny. The hypnotist Dale K was very entertaining, Taylor Mason comedian, puppet dude was very funny. After the show we wandered to see what we could see, not so much do, because we still haven't got a hold of this ship yet.
Dinner at Animators Palate, sitting with another family from the Chicago area, with 2 boys also, good match. Lemon thyme chicken good, son didn't like beef tenderloins. Zeljko and Jessy servers, Serbia and Peru. After dinner we wander around and take pictures. Go to bed very tired.

Day two, Sunday, March 27, At Sea
Woke up to see the sunrise, quite a few others there to do the same. We had a character breakfast at Parrot Cay. Belguim waffles, Mickey waffles, scrambled eggs. Part of my order was wrong but it was ok to have sausage instead of bacon, Zeljko went to another part of the ship to get my wife fresh strawberries. Chip, Dale, Minnie, Mickey, goofy came to visit each table, the cast member with them took 2 pics per tables. At the end of breakfast Zeljko made napkin hats for all 4 boys, very cool.
Decided to let the boys run wild today, luckily they made plans with the boys from the family that we have been eating with. Wife and I sat on the forward deck 10, all other areas had no available chairs, and watched other kids play in the wide world of sports goofy style. The boys spent the afternoon swimming and wandering levels 9 and 10. The wife and I ate at Topsiders Buffett for lunch, good selection, 2 kinds of beef, pastas, 4 soups, salads, and about 7 different deserts.
My wife decided to sit on level 4 and read near our muster station, out of the sun. I wandered and found our eldest and watched part of the dancing and toy story on the big screen. Eventually we found our other family members and went to see Tangled in the Buenaventura vista theater, great movie but the crowd had to be one of the noisiest I have encountered in years, talking and rumpling packaging and opening pops.
Seeing Twice Charmed, then off to the all ages Dale K hypnotist and then formal night at Parrot Cay, which is disappointing to have the one formal night in the most informal restaurant on the boat. Off to see Taylor Mason for the adult puppet show, kids are either going late night swimming or seeing I am number 4
Dale K was a riot, I volunteered along with my son and about 8 others. There may be stories out there that I ate food, or answered a phone call or imitated a popular Disney musician, but I will not admit to remembering this. Our dinner buddies did not show up for dinner, they had a spa day so our sons put up with our small group to entertain us. We continue to be one of the last groups to exit dinner. We dropped the kids off at the room after changing clothes, they were meeting the friends and seeing the movie I am Number 4. We went to see Taylor Mason at Rockin Bar D, he must read my wife's mind because he had so many similarities to her life. We stayed for the start of the disco dance show and were bored very quickly, this seemed true of many people. We snuck in and caught the last hour and 45 minutes of the movie. The one thing that I am missing on this cruise is dancing, other than the kid driven short dance driven gatherings at the Goofy Pool, we have yet to see any dancing anywhere else.

Day 3, Monday March 28, At Sea
Late start, slept in until 8:30 and decided to eat at Topsiders, excellent choices for breakfast. Spent the morning laying out and swimming in the adult pool, as the kids swam in the kids pools, took video from the water slide. Went to lunch at topsiders, Asian themed brunch, which was alright, it probably was not the greatest choice for Many families with young kids. One high point is seeing a whale breech a few times off the back of the boat. Youngest son cannot get the Hang of having the wave Phone and his I'd card with him. The highlight of the cruise so far is the Lee Unkrich speaking presentation. He presented a slide show about Pixar pics and video of the process to make toy story 3. He will be back on Thursday with his Oscar to talk again, I will hopefully be there.
The wife is trying to take a nap while I distract the kids with shuffleboard. Tonight is Villains Tonight then the all ages Taylor Mason show followed by cruise casual night at Lumiere's. We will see if the wife allows me to volunteer for Dale k tonight. Villains tonight was pretty good, although I would say some lyrics were hard to understand at times. Dinner at Lumieres, duck, duck, chicken salad and beef tenderloin. Went to see Dale K adult show, similar to all ages, although it allowed the adults to do more risqué things, some similar ideas but different props. Off to bed.

We were on this same cruise...also from the Chicago burbs (LOTS of people from the Midwest and Canada on our cruise). We missed the adult ventriloquist (Taylor Mason) show, but saw him at the family show and he was funny. Dale K the hypnotist was a surprising good adult show. My DH was the first person excluded from the whole stage of people first chosen...way before it was narrowed down to only five people. Really funny and intriguing show!
Best show/activity of the whole cruise was the series of seminars/autograph session with Lee Unkrich...fascinating man and amazing wealth of information!

:thumbsup2 Thanks for posting!!! Really interesting and helpful for us newbies!!! I didn't see whether or not you mentioned it, but did your 12 ds enjoy the Edge? Or did he go? I'll have a 12 dd by Oct, so wondering if she'll like it or not. Keep up the report! Sounds Wonderful!

My son stopped in on the first day to see what it was like. He returned two or three other times but never for more than an hour or so. We were lucky to hook up with the other family and our kids hung out together most of the time.

We also were on the same cruise!:thumbsup2 Had a blast! My kids LOVED the kids club and often begged to stay.

Yeah, that Coast Guard send-off was unexpected. I got video of it and the guy waving, etc. My son asked if it was to keep pirates from taking over the ship...I said..."We already have!" :lmao:

One high point is seeing a whale breech a few times off the back of the boat. Youngest son cannot get the Hang of having the wave Phone and his I'd card with him. The highlight of the cruise so far is the Lee

Yay! We saw it too!! We had just sat down in the Promenade Lounge...I can't remember but hubby and I were wandering the boat, just dropped off kids at the club and I said (because I'm obsessed with looking for dolphins any time we're at the beach, etc.) "I wish I could see a dolphin or even a whale or something!" And no sooner had my hubby said he dreamt I saw a whale did I see a white flume of water different from the waves in the ocean...then I saw something BIG, I could tell even from that distance, coming out of the water WAY out there! We ran to our room to grab the binoculars (camera zoom not good enough) and saw it come up two more times, then lost sight of it. So exciting!!

Is the coast guard send-off a normal procedure?? We were aware of the delay in leaving the port (during the sail away party), and watched all the commotion with security and "suits" from the cruise ship. We were initially worried that there was a security breech, but we concluded that someone's luggage was late getting to the ship. My husband also took pictures of the coast guard boat...impressive gun at the bow of the boat!

Our two 17 yo DDs took pictures with Lee Unkrich and held the Oscar...YES, it was the real deal. My DD told me, also, that it was surprisingly heavy. We can't stop telling people how cool it was to learn about Pixar and meet Lee. My DD who held the Oscar told me yesterday that she would love to go on a future Disney cruise with all the sea days filled with seminars like Lee Unkrich's (like the Hawaii cruise next year that has 8 or 9 sea days!)

I had no idea we were even late in leaving port...LOL! I didn't notice the "suits" either. What time did the commotion happen? (I could have very well been experiencing my first drink-of-the day about then. They could have had Mickey in hand-cuffs and I might not have realized...;))

I have no previous experience but I am betting the Coast Guard send-off is normal. Although I did tell the kids I thought the 'po-po' was coming to get us because all the fun we were about to have couldn't possibly be legal.;):cool1:
