Lunch at Castaway Cay?

This is the Serenity Bay dining area. We were on the Magic on 12/24. It was a beautiful day and not crowded at all.
I have always see steak but it's not very good. Very thin and tough. Think what you would get at a Golden Corral.

Our server promised us gluten-free ribs and baked beans on Castaway Cay. It took us 30+ minutes to get our meal because he told us to go to the wrong pick-up location. When the food finally arrived, the ribs were inedible (poor-quality meat, overcooked, & no sauce to improve the situation), and the "baked beans" were bare kidney beans :sad2:. Gluten-free on Castaway Cay has a long way to go!

DW is GF. Our experience at SB was the opposite. It took a few minutes for them to prepare her meal. Neither of us think the food on CC is that great to begin with, but the quality of her food was not much different than mine. The ship had prepared a GF BBQ sauce for her that I thought was better than the regular sauce. She loves baked beans (I rarely eat them) and thought her beans to be very good. She was disappointed the GF dessert they provided but made up for it with lots of ice cream.

Cookies or Cookies Too - is either less crowded than the other? I just remember having a hard time finding a table years ago.

Years ago there was only 1 lunch area, since they built Cookies Too and SB dining we have never had a problem finding somewhere to sit down to eat at any of the 3 spots. We also enjoy the steaks at SB probably because we like our meat more done and the ones they have set out during our visits have been more along that line. Since the early days of the island the build up has really improved any crowding issues we used to experience.

I've never seen steak (of any variety) at Serenity Bay and we always eat our lunch there.

It's just like on the ship - paper cups available. If you bring your own cup, they ask that you use one of theirs to fill yours:

I been to CC eight times. I have had a steak at the SB BBQ every single visit. They are on the grill.

I had one of the best steaks ever at Serenity Bay!
I wouldn't say it was one of my best steaks ever, but eating a steak out on that island sure is nice!! :)

I wish we'd been there the same day you were.

We have always seen Steaks at Serenity bay. The times I had one it was great! We also had lobster tails once. I am guessing it was left over for onboard the Magic but still quite good.

Yep you won't see lobster too often. Only if they have left overs from the day before. Some people say the lobster is not good in a post that just came out here. But I like it.

For those worried about gluten free , I just wanted to add that my DH's last gluten free experience on the island was good. Our head server had told him not to worry and he would have a lunch prepared for him and where to go to pick it up. This is what they gave him! More than enough food!

Every time that we have been there thin cut ribeyes cooked to order were offered.

OK, there's steak there :goodvibes. I've just never seen it. Maybe the grill/serving dish was empty at the times I was there. Maybe I just didn't look hard enough. I'll look harder the next time.

My Friend, with these kind of details I would usually not debate you, you are the pro. :worship: I can only say they were there when we were!

Really, I'm not the pro - I just report my experiences. And, as I'm human, I'm sure my experiences may not be the actual event. I report honestly what I've seen/done, but others have seen/done different. That's what this forum is all about - letting others know how things work (for the most part). I'm just adding my take.

I have a vague memory that there is a sign that they have steaks, but you need to order it from the grill, they are not set out for you to take. That might be the reason, why you missed them.

Ok............then your a *wealth of Disney knowledge* :)

SB has a thin ribeye that is very good when made into a sub/sandwich. I found the steak sandwich and the ribs to be the best choices at SB.

I think much depends on the ship and who is cooking. Most cruises we've been on have made an effort to prepare her nice GF meals, but Disney has been consistently better, which is one reason DW likes DCL and Aulani. But even they can flub it at times. On this cruise they prepared baked goods for her that rivaled the regular muffins, bread, cookies, etc. On our last cruise she often got hockey pucks in different shapes. However, aside from the baked goods, she received well prepared and delicious GF meals.

Here's the menu when we were at CC and SB.

Calling this meal "free" is hard to swallow, (pardon the pun), after looking at my cruise cost.:clown:
