Wednesday was a day I was looking forward to. I'd been wanting to visit Blizzard Beach since I was about 7 years old and my parents got me a video (which I now have on DVD) called "Mickey's Sing Along Songs: Beach Party at Walt Disney World". It looked like there was so much cool stuff to do! (It also featured the various resort beaches, Typhoon Lagoon, the Spirit of Aloha dancers, a boat ride on Seven Seas Lagoon, and the Electrical Water Pageant). The park opened at 10am, so we were at the bus stop at 9:06 (after putting on my SPF 80 sunblock). Now at Kidani, DHS and BB share a bus. One pulled up flashing a marquee that only said the Studios, so I asked if the driver if he would be going to Blizzard Beach. He said yes, but after the studios, so we decided to wait for one going to BB then DHS (the normal order). We waited about 15 minutes for one, and then it took about 15 minutes (including stopping at Jambo House) to arrive at our destination. I think we were the only ones who got off there. It wasn't time to open yet, and there was a fairly long line at the turnstiles, so we sat on a bench and took a couple pictures of our surroundings, like the Winter Summerland mini golf course.
It wasn't long before they opened the turnstiles and let us in. But wait! It was just a false alarm because they held us behind a rope on the bridge over Cross Country Creek near Lottawatta Lodge until opening time.
At promptly 10am, we were released. We quickly made our way into the park and found our home base for the day: under a shelter near Meltaway Bay. One of the perks of arriving early means you get your choice of seats! Mom laid down with her book because she doesn't do water slides. I made my way over to the "Green Slope". I came to the chair lift, which I had not planned on riding because I don't like heights, especially in rides like those. However, there was no line, and it seemed the better alternative to climbing 90ft of steps. So I hopped on and got a chair to myself, as there was basically nobody on the thing. I arrived at the top and got off, making my way up the last few stairs to Summit Plummet. I wish I had brought the camera with me because the view from the top was amazing. I could see AK, the rook of AKL, Epcot, the Studios, and waaaay in the distance the top of the castle, Space Mountain, and BLT.
I waited about 5 minutes. Finally, it was my turn! As I sat in the top of the chute waiting for the all clear, the attendant looked at me and said "Are you ready?" I nodded. "You have to smile." Really dude? I'm about to send myself down a 120 ft slide going 55mph and you want me to smile?! I gave him one of these grins . Down I go: (I was pushing off and I crossed my legs as soon as this picture was taken)
Now, I felt the drop in my stomach for about a second. Then I felt pain in my bottom. Seriously, worst wedgie ever. I thought it did some serious damage. Here's me getting off the slide, pulling out the atomic wedgie (in the words of an Unofficial Guide reader):
At this point, I kind of felt like I had to use the restroom, but I decided I could hold off for a little bit. I climbed back up the bajillion steps to go on Slush Gusher. This was a slightly longer wait, about 10-15 minutes. More air time because of the two humps, but ending in another awful wedgie. Again, the feeling of needing a restroom came and I ignored it some more. I made my way over to Downhill Double Dipper. The wait here said 10-15 minutes but it was more like 25. This ride requires a tube. Riders who have just landed in the pool put their tubes in a slot that takes them on a conveyor belt up to those waiting in line. Apparently there was a jam, and the cast members weren't aware of it. Also, BB plays a recording telling you about each slide and it's height requirements, so I got to listen to that for 25 minutes straight. I finally got to the top and down I went. It was your basic enclosed tube slide that goes straight down, with one or two bumps, ending in another wedgie. The "I need to go to the bathroom" feeling could not be ignored anymore, so I hurried off in search of one. When I did find one, it was thoroughly disgusting considering the park had been open for less than an hour.

Basically, the water had worked it's way up where water should never go, and served as a colon cleanse. Water is mostly what came out. I didn't feel well for the rest of the day, but I persevered on.

I headed over to Mom to see if she was ready to go in the wave pool and on the lazy river, but she was napping. I went to Runoff Rapids on the back of the mountain. Now, this ride has three slides: 2 open and 1 enclosed. The UG said that double tubes must ride the open slides, but single riders can ride either. I planned on riding the open one. When I finally made my way to the top, very winded, I found that one of the open slides was not operating. All double tubes were going down the other open slide, and all single tubes were going down the enclosed slide. I'm not sure if this is normal protocol, or if single tubes were being discriminated against that day. Well, I went down the enclosed slide and it was just your normal slide. I (thankfully) did not end up with a wedgie after that.
Next I headed up to Snow Stormers, a three slide mat ride, where you ride on your stomach. There was a dad and his two kids who all wanted to go down at the same time. He put them on the numbers he thought they should be on to correspond with each other. He failed. As we got closer, I could see that the kids would be going down with me, and dad would be behind them. I asked him if he wanted to go down at the same time as them and he said "Oh yeah. I was actually trying to pawn them off on you! " Well, we rearranged, and when it was my turn I went down. This was fairly boring and I got a small face full of water when I landed.
"I haven't learned how to stop yet!"
