My daughter is in the CP now in QSFB. She has just been accepted to extend in the role of Recreation and she is not sure now if she wants to do it. She is thinking of possible going in to Public Relations as a Communications Major and possibly working for Disney lon term after she graduates. Does any one have any advice on the path she should take??? I think she should extend and do the Recreation role since it would give her more exposure, etc. What about Professional Internships? Should she be able to talk to someone at Disney now and get some advice and guidance as to what they are looking for in PR or marketing people? Any input is greatly appreciated as she does not know what to do. What would you do if you were her? She is about to change her major to Communications and I want to make sure that is what they will be looking for.

Thanks in advance!

Taking the extension would definitely give her more exposure to a different line of business within the company and will give her more time to network. She should reach out to her leaders and see if they know anyone who works in PR who would do a meet and greet with her. If she is taking any Disney Classes she could see if her instructors know anyone. Also she should reach out on social networking sites to current PIs in those areas to ask about their positions. There are several facebook groups from each season of PI's and if she has a Linkedin (Which she should get if she wants to get into PR) she could search for them there.

Professional Internships are very very competitive. She should reach out to her leaders for advice, although they may not know much about the process. Generally the PR positions ask for degrees in PR, Communications or related field. While Marketing is, Marketing, Communications or related field.

Changing her major to Comm will be very broad, if she knows she wants to do PR she should get into a PR major as she will get a more specialized education.
