Life boat #9 on the Dream 06/26/2011

I was on the Dream....truly missing it right now!

Anyways, we were actually reboarding when this happened. We heard a noise like someone dropped something in the water....you know like a purse or something, nothing big. So when we looked around it seemed like know one even noticed!

When we got to the quiet cove pool, we started chatting with a guy who was near by when it happened. He said there was a loud crash (the plastic glass from the railing perhaps??? I know technical terms!). There was also some very un-disneylike language and I'm pretty sure it was in more than one language!!!

They did block of the area very well. I don't think it actually sailed without the railing at the time because I don't think they wanted to make it worse.

We were out on our jet ski excursion :thumbsup2 when the helicopter flew over. From what I understand, it did not land it did not even seem to hover.

We were kind of hoping...ok praying that we might be stuck at CC!

We were also told that there was plenty of room on the other life boats.

Yes, a whole assembled engine would require the hull of the ship being cut open to then somehow remove the old engine and insert the new one. Not an easy task! The shell doors for loading and offloading luggage, food etc would obviously never be able to accommodate an assembled engine.
Talking of cylinders, this guy had a job you couldn't pay me enough money to do!

Any how, I'm sure the Dream's lifeboat is being repaired or the spare being taken to the dock along with a new rail.
And a full investigation as to what happened and what can be done to prevent a future re-occurance happening again.

Totally digging this guy's (assuming it's a guy, actually) choice of headwear! It truly is amazing what goes on beyond the view of the guests to operate these ships.

It was a guy (I just blurred out his face out of respect to him for me posting his photo without asking).
I cannot begin to describe the environment down there. The heat was amazing, the head gear is to keep the sweat from running into his eye's. The smell of oil, fuel etc was horrible, and dangers everywhere you look.
We were specifically told where to stand, where to walk and not point at things without thinking where your hand was going!

My hat is off to that man for doing his job day in and out for months on end.
He and others like him are really the unsung workers aboard cruise ships keeping everything we take for granted like electricity and clean water, it's not made by Mickey Magic!
(I never asked his name as I wasn't allowed to go down the steps and shouting would have been so pointless with the other 4 engines running!)

On a lightly unrelated slant- we had a Saudi Arabian princess entourage on board. Bet that caused some security scares.

on a lighter note .... The life boats on the Dream have a bathroom in them ...

On a lightly unrelated slant- we had a Saudi Arabian princess entourage on board. Bet that caused some security scares.

I knew the Princess had to be from Saudi Arabia!! We heard the rumors. We saw a million suitcases outside the room in our hallway very carefully wrapped like a new set of pillow cases (you know in the plastic with zippers?). The suitcases were very clearly marked "shipped from Saudi Arabia". 3 huge strollers sat in the hallway as well.

They actually took one of the suitcases onto CC. I was there when they brought it back.

We briefly saw the family in the hall and at customs. The kids looked rather old to be in the "strollers".

Were they staying in conceirge? We saw the carts and carts of luggage in the lobby by Guest Services and noticed most were Louis Vuitton and Gucci. I thought ya know those are either real or very good fakes. Guess they were real :rotfl2:.
I never saw the entourage until they were leaving. There was a string of black Escalades, Suburbans and 2 huge extended vans just for their luggage :scared1:. The other odd thing is I just did not see that many people for that much luggage. I cannot imagine they stored that many bags in their room.
On a funny note, while we were waiting for the Budget van we were all watching the rich people getting all those trucks and vans loaded. The DCL guy standing there said to me "You know that's not all that impressive. We were putting plastic on our couches way before they put plastic on those bags". That totally cracked me up.

They sailed back with no railing, WOW that is dangerous. I'm surprised they didn't fix it in Nassau.

I was watching the webcam and I noticed that it was missing when she sailed back out yesterday.

The family traveling with us was in staterooms 9532 and 9534, and the princess and her family was right next door in room 9536 so they were NOT in concierge which I thought was odd. She must not have been a VIP (very important princess)!!:rotfl: Our friends (and probably the other guests on that hall) were relieved when all of the huge plastic-wrapped suitcases were finally stowed somewhere a couple of days into the cruise. I'm surprised they were left in the hallway as long as they were. It sure looked like a safety hazard to me.

We were right near the Saudi Princess too....same floor a few rooms down...they had the same servers we had all week too..Ivana and Neville...they were always escorted in by Ari the Head Server and as SOON as they sat special food was brought out to them....It was the Main Princess, her Husband and one boy about 10, and teen daughters ...they luggage was HUGE and in the hall for quite a while unattended which I thought was weird too....
And we were sitting right on deck 4 when the lifeboat came crashing down...there was actually a guy in a yellow jumpsuit trapped in there at first screaming to get out...I think he was painting near it, and something came loose...the noise was scarey....and the way it swung out if someone was walking by at that moment it could have been bad....all the big Captains were down there pretty fast to look at it..and I saw them asking people to delete any pictures taken of it OR they would take your camera...they stood there making sure you deleted it too...they then tried to swing it back in, but it looked like the hydro arm gave way and t went crashing into the deck railing and smashing the plexiglass EVERYWHERE....for a moment I could tell they were really scared it was going to go crashing down into the water.

Yep we were on deck 9 and saw all that nonsense too, so much wrapped designer luggage and strollers it made it crazy to pass. I am surprised DCL never asked them to move it, and i am surprised she didn't stay concierge. We heard that she was actually staying in a suite, but her entrouage was on deck 9:confused3

We also saw a troop of escalades waiting for her at the port.

Princess talk.....

Someone mentioned that perhaps the suitcases contained special non-perishable foods. I'm not sure.

I only saw the women dressed in traditional clothing on Pirate night and I never saw those women again. I did see a rather beautiful blond woman dressed normal....well that is for Americans. She was coming out of the stateroom with a late 20ish male. I got the feeling that they were together, but I could be wrong it could have been the nanny????popcorn::

I thought about the safety issue of the strollers and the luggage in the hall. The luggage slowly disappeared as the cruise went on.

I guess it goes to show that even a Princess princess: needs to book early to get the best room!

We were on the Dream June 21 - 26 for the lifeboat oops and the bonus princess. On our first trip to Castaway Cay, I elbowed my sister ever so discreetly at Cookies and said "I know that guy...he's an actor or talk show host or something." Wrong names kept popping into my head: Mike Rowe? Kinda, but no. Jeff Probst? Kinda, but no. My sister "happened" to be at the condiment station with him. She returned to the table and told me "I don't know who he is, but his name is Treadway." Ding ding ding: Ty Treadway, who played Colin MacIver on "One Life To Live" and hosted "Soap Talk" with Lisa Rinna. He seemed to have a great time with his family; I didn't notice anyone approach him for autographs or photos.

In MCO on Sunday I walked past Audra McDonald of "Private Practice" and Broadway. She was at DisneyWorld this week (her photo is in one of the Disney blogs).

Never a dull moment at Disney.....

Come on ---- on DCL, everyone is a Princess!:bride: I can't see how this one thought she would get too much attention! :wizard::laughing: But on a serious note, we were on that cruise and I thought the Captain handled the announcement of the lifeboat very well - very upfront. My son said it was very hard to get to the Vibe after that because the deck was blocked off - so the fact that the railing was damaged didn't really matter because you couldn't get to it. Other than that - it was a great cruise...in fact, that didn't even take away from it being a great cruise!:banana::banana:

I was watching the webcam and I noticed that it was missing when she sailed back out yesterday.

Yeah my DD mentioned that too. She said something about another way to get there but frankly since I was so turned around on that ship- I don't even know what she was talking about.

Am I the only one troubled by this. This happened in an area that the public can plainly see. I don't see any "security" related issue in play here. Where does a DCL officer get the right to tell you to delete a picture on your camera? The CMs in public areas don't have any expectation of privacy either. Probably covered by some fine print on the cruise contract, but really, what was the point? The didn't really think they'd destroy any and all evidence of this, did they? Heck, some of the pictures or videos might have been useful in their investigation of the accident....

Ok this thread has not died. I will try to get the pictures dowloaded off the camera and post some since actual pictures seem in short supply on this.
Check back later today and I will try to post them.

You on Private Property while on the ship, therefore they can tell you that you can't take any pictures at all. And wasn't there a CM who was yelling to get out? Until they know that no one is hurt you shouldn't take pics anyway.
