My mom and I are celebrating our 60th and 30th birthdays on our trip in a couple weeks and we are looking into doing a tour of some sort.

What are your favorite backstage tours and why?? We are looking to spend under $200 a person. It can be in any park, we just want to enjoy ourselves and do something special!

Thanks!! :mickeyjum

A few years ago DW and I really enjoyed the backstage tour at AK. We got to pet a rhino! Through some seriously big bars! I don't think they are doing the close animal interactions anymore but seeing all of the details that go into the care of the animals at the AK was fascinating. The name has changed to Backstage Tales but the description is quite similar. If animals and the AK interest you then this is a great tour.

Agreed, the Keys to the Kingdom tour is amazing. I actually did it with my mom on our own mother-daughter trip. We both loved it!

We haven't done Keys to the Kingdom, but we have done a number of other backstage tours and can say we've been pleased with all of them. So I would look at the list and pick one that fits your budget and sounds the most interesting to you! (The most memorable for us have been the MK Steam Trains and the AK Backstage Tales. Oh wait, also Marceline to Main Street.)

I am considering Keys to the Kingdom Tour, it sounds really nice but not sure if i'd have enough time. If spending 1.5 days at Magic Kingdom, would i have enough time to do everything if i included this tour?

I think so. We went on the earliest possible tour, and it ended around 12:30 or 1pm. That leaves more than half the day to spend in the park after the tour; add another full day on top of that, and some strategically scheduled FPs, it's definitely manageable!

Your mom(and yourself) may enjoy the "Behind the seeds" tour which is a walking tour version of the boat ride in the land pavilion. It is $25/person, lasts 1-1/2 hours depending on your groups pace and number of questions. You get up close to everything and see some things you dont see on the boats. Its very interesting and one of the most underrated tours available.
I really dont think you can go wrong with any of the tours or "Dine with an imagineer/animal specialist".

Thank you SO much for all your replies!! I think we're going to try out the KTTK tour!!

Has anyone gone on the Savor the Savannah Safari? We were looking at that one too. It sounded like fun :)

I'll put in a vote for Marceline to Main Street. As a Haunted Mansion fan it was amazing. Great focus on Walt and his history with a few classic rides thrown in. Also, it wrapped up nicely around lunch time if you want to add a half day tour to your trip.

Thanks!! I'm going to check this out. Keys to the Kingdom was completely booked so maybe they will have openings to this one!!

Ok, then how about "Backstage Magic". I am not sure of the current cost and it is about a 7 hour tour(things may have changed since I last took it), But, it covers all 4 theme parks. At Magic Kingdom, it overlaps much of the KTTK tour plus some things you do not see on that tour. The group is shuttled from park to park and enter from the backstage areas so you do truly see much of the backstage as well as on stage. Its long, interesting and was a nice break from the parks, but still be in the parks. It also included a table service lunch. I dont exactly remember, but it may have also included stops at some non theme park support buildings.

Wow awesome!! I'll check this one out too :) Thanks again!!

I took the Backstage Magic tour last month and it did not include all 4 parks.

It is an often-changing experience and Animal Kingdom and Hollywood Studios were not part of the tour.

We also did not visit the Horticultural area (which is included at other times of the year) because the topiaries are all out for the Flower & Garden festival and there wouldn't have been much to see there.

Curious as to what they added to fill the 7 hours?

My tour included:
Backstage at the American Adventure
Magic Kingdom Utilidors (and watching the afternoon parade)
Lunch at Wilderness Lodge
Costuming Design Centre
One of the giant Laundry facilities
Central Shops (where they build & repair just about everything needed to operate the resort)

Yes, this is the new Backstage Magic tour stops. At least until construction is complete at AK and HS (who knows if it will return to those stops but the construction is why they left)
The only thing you loose with the change is the Horticultural stop. We didn't go during an Epcot event and it was still not included then either.
