We have a flight in November. Flying with delta from Orlando to Syracuse with a layover in New York for 2 hours. Do we have to get our checked bags from the first flight and take them to the second or does the airport handle it. This the first time we haven't flown direct.
Thanks.

1) The airlines handle the bag transfer for you.
2) You don't even see the luggage until your final destination. *
3) Even when switching airlines.

* International travel is different.

Previous poster is correct that regardless of how many transfers you make your bags will make it to the final destination.

Also nice to see a fellow Syracusian on the DIS boards.

When you check your bags, it's a good idea to read the computerized label when it's placed on your luggage to make sure it lists the airport at your final destination before it disappears on the conveyor. Just a precaution, but it doesn't hurt to be sure your luggage ends up with you in Syracuse instead of at the New York airport. Mistakes do happen (ask me how I know this.)
