Just curious, do you find yourself comparing other places to Disney?

I do. And something it drives me crazy because I can't enjoy the time because it's not Disney.

So, now we're trying to make plans to do something for our 10th Anniversary (I may have finally convinced DH that a 10th wedding anniversary IS something to celebrate) and DH is suggesting maybe Charleston or Gatlinburg or Savannah, GA. And since it's been happening to me more and more I'm aprehensive because like I said I'm starting to compare things to Disney.

So part of me says, "Heck, just go to Disney."

How about you? Do you find yourself comparing everything to Disney?

I discovered that after I began visitng Disney, I lost interest in Las Vegas. I used to love Vegas for the over-the-top hotels, nice restaurants, and shows. I don't gamble, so that was never an allure for me. When I last visited Vegas, the crass entertainment and drunken mobs had be saying to myself, "this sure is not Disney." I have no interest in returning to Vegas.

Disney and Universal. Its hard for me to get into most other theme parks because they don't live up. Now the beach I don't compare, it is what it is and I enjoy my beach time, but I do get bored easy and prefer more time at the parks.

But yeah to me other destinations really don't live up, unless there is a great theme park around, and that's usually only Orlando.

The DC area can make a good vacation, museums, monuments, great restaurants, Williamsburg and decent theme parks. But not sure if I would prefer it to Orlando.

There are other places then WDW?!?!?! :rotfl2: Actually I don't compare them because the only place I vacation now adays is WDW.

Yes, I compare, but that doesn't mean that I don't enjoy the other places. For example, this summer, we were in a jeep in the middle of the Serengetti and DH and I could not get over how great a job Disney Imagineers did with the safari ride in Animal Kingdom. At the same time, I loved Africa and would go back in a heartbeat!

If you want to go to WDW, do it. DH and I went to WDW for our tenth anniversary and we had a blast - we stayed at GF with view of MK, we did a fireworks cruise, and on our anniversary we dined at V&A.

I compare all day trips and short weekend trips to Disney. Although you may complain about the cost of a Disney trip I can tell you that the last trip we took to the White Mountains in NH cost almost the same as 3 days in Disney AND we had to drive an hour between attractions!

yep...i'm currently torn between taking my 78 yo grandmother to gatlinburg in april (i KNOW this is what i should do) or DH, DD and i doing WDW the week before Christmas. i just don't see myself having nearly as much fun, but i'm willing to do it for her, b/c she'd do anything for me.

Yes, we constantly do this. We live about 10 minutes from hersheypark door to door and we go there alot, but it is not Disney. We do like it, but primarily for the convenience aspect. We keep talking about going to Europe someday, but we always change our mind and decide to do Disney again! I figure as long as my DD5 loves it and wants to keep going, we will go!

Yes, this is what I'm talking about. Day trips, weekend trips. For instance (as silly as this sounds) I was recently at a local festival and I was thinking to myself, "Well, it's not Disney." I mean I KNOW it is what it is but even with being a reasonable person I STILL found myself comparing!! I think it's a sickness or just plan maddness!!

We're going home to Delaware two weeks before our anniversary for Thanksgiving. I'd give up going home to take a great anniversary trip w/ DH to WDW. We're going to DE cause DH says I don't have a choice  but if I did :rolleyes1

My sickness has probably not progressed quite this far:lmao: I mean, we have local festivals and such and I don't compare at those types of places, but definitely any vacation destination, and especially other parks.

I am the opposite.... I compare places to WDW to see how much more I like them than WDW. I certainly understand people's love of WDW, but it isn't something that I enjoy.... though my family sure does.

I compare things to disney ,hotels, yep I do but I still go to other places.

Only other theme parks. Going on vacation to Hawaii, I didn't long for Disney at all.

Heck yeah, I compare everything to Disney. :lmao: Except for beach vacations, in which case I compare everything to St. Augustine. (In fact, St. Augustine is a lot like WDW in the sense that you never run out of things to do.)

Luckily my DH loves Disney (and St Augustine) as much as I do, so we are pretty much in agrrement on how to spend our monthly weekend getaways. :goodvibes

LOL, my family got a kick out my comparing DH's trip to MN's Mayo clinic for surgery in Aug. to WDW! My comment was more like The Mayo Clinic was to a hospital what Walt Disney expects out of the best day at WDW. :)

We live near Dollywood and I can appreciate the charm of that park and the themeing it has but I still compare it to WDW.

We do it all the time now. We wont stop going but we do comment how nice it would be to have Fastpass or even wait times posted when we go to Hershey Park or Busch Gardens

I never thought I would.. but I have.. we live about 25 min from knoebles nice family amusement park.. but we went the week after we came home from disney and it was like  .... but we still go ALOT during the summer since its so close and very inexpensive for us as a family of 5. We can go have a full day there for less than 60$ including food.. so we'll continue to go to knoebles inbetween disney trips ;) I am not a hershey park fan. I never liked that place  But DD#1 is a hershey chocolate baby.. she was born in Hershey. I do have fond memories of Hershey but not the park itself.. I think its VERY over priced and rated.. :scared1:

I have always loved Disney. It has been a great part of our life but I find it totally amazing that so many people would rather do Disney than visit the real world.

We went to NY for the first time last year a loved the plays, dining, shopping and seeing a great city. We did SF/Napa a couple of time and were blown away by the experience. Same with Tucson/Phoenix/Grand Canyon and Las Vegas (though Vegas is on the same 'pop culture' decline that Disney is, IMO). Although, I must ask the poster who didn't like Vegas because of the drunks and obnoxious behavior if he's been to the Food and Wine Festival? Because that description fits it quite well too.

To each his own but IMO Disney, especially modern Disney, is just another theme park. Maybe the best by far but still a theme park nonetheless.

OH MY GOODNESS YES I DO THIS!

I was at Six Flags Over Georgia last Saturday. My friend & I were making rude comments all through the Monster Plantation. (If you were behind us in the boat, I apologize for not giving the attraction our full attention.) All the characters were dusty, the place just looked filthy, the black lights were out in plain view--not even an ATTEMPT to hide them. Cheesy -- just plain cheesy!

Plus the place is just full of teenagers bouncing blasted basketballs all over the place. Drives me crazy!
