June 27, 2013 - Magic in the Med (Venice)

This may have already been discussed but I will confess that I have not been keeping up with this thread. We just decided for certain a few weeks ago that we are definitely going on this cruise (We are doing B2B with the 6/15 cruise.) Ok - here is my question. Can we make a 10:45 flight from Barcelona and would it be possible to use Disney transfers to make sure we get to the airport by that time? Also, if so, can you do transfers for just one way? That is the only nonstop flight going to our destination on that day.

You might want to ask on the main board. There may be people there who have done it.....

We were in the same situation. Our flight leaves at 10:45 am. We are those people who get to the airport for an international flight a minimum of 2.5 hours in advance. Add another 1/2 hr to get to the airport and we didn't feel comfortable cutting it that close, so we will be staying another night in Barcelona after the cruise.

It may be possible though....

I believe that you can get one way transfers to the airport, but I have not personally done it so I don't have experience with the BCN transfers.

Our group is signed up on the first page of this thread but I am not sure if we are signed up for fish extenders? Where is that info? I feel like I am a little late coming to the party :cheer2:

Yay, we are B2B too. We have one way transfers so yes they can be booked. You pay by the leg so if you do port to airport You pay just that.

But for a 10:45 flight you might consider arranging private transportation and also take your own bags off the ship rather than putting them out the night before. That way you don't have to wait for your section to be offloaded nor wait for a DCL bus transportation to be full before it heads out.

Thanks for the replies. I'll have to give this some thought. I will post on the main cruise board to see if others have had early flights and what their experiences were. I need to start going back through the thread. I have a lot of catching up to do.:goodvibes

In 2010 when we last sailed the med there were a lot of people who took early flights home. BUT IMO things are different this year. In 2010 our last stop was in France, so we were very close to Barcelona and got in to port earlier in the morning. We did stay over last time as our flight was at that same time. Now I wasn't rushing, and we didn't make it to our hotel until 11 we walked off at 8:30 This time we are also staying over, it more relaxing. BTW we didn't go to the last breakfast in the dining room we ate in Topsiders. We had reservations for a tour that we wanted to get too, we were late. Luckily it was just for the Go cars, a scheduled tour would have left without us. This year there have been no DCL declarations about early flights,,like there had been in 2010. DCL is asking all flights to be scheduled after 12:30 and they haven't moved from that yet. In 2010 they had by now.

Somthing about "paid in full" that kicks trip planning up a gear for me.

We now have our place for the five days in Barcelona booked and our place for the two days in Iceland post cruise.

My "spreadsheet" of times reservations and how much it is going to cost is up and running. Sticker shock is an understatement.

We have a private tour booked for the Naples day with RIL. We have requested Carmine to get us as far down the Amalfi coast as we can, with lunch at a Trattoria we have previously visited. If anyone cares to join us the invitation is open. It will be DH and I and possibly our 21 year old daughter.

On a totally different topic any advice from Venic pro's if my plan is too ambitious. Day 1 get off the ship, get a 24 transportation pass. Use public tranport to get to Murano and possilby the lace island before coming back and either taking a sunset gondola ride or the "rick steves water taxi tour out of his book" (leaning toward gondola). Find a non-touristy place for dinner then wander back to the ship if I find a real local mask shop along the way then that is a bonus.

Day 2 Disney tour "Secret walk" is from 8:30 to 1:00. Then I plan to book entry into St. Marks for 1:30pm and the Doge's Place for 2pm. This should get us back to the ship around 4.

We do want to visit Doge's Palace and the Bridge of Sighs, but we don't have to do the Secret Itineraries tour - but if we did, it seems to be offered in English at 9:55 a.m., 10:45, and 11:35 if there are any tickets left for any of those slots. ( http://palazzoducale.visitmuve.it/en/pianifica-la-tua-visita/secretitineraries/ )

We decided today that we wanted to go ahead and make the reservation for the Secret Itinerary tour, so we did. Done. We booked the 9:55 AM English speaking tour. Two adults, two students. 70-euro.

So that's at least something to build our Venice itinerary around.

You might want to ask on the Adventures by Disney board about the local mask shop. On the Viva Italia tour, they spend part of the day in Venice at one and it is one the few real shops left. I don't remember the name of it but surely someone on that board remembers the name.

If you do the 24 hour Vaporetto on the first day, it will expire before you're ready to get back on the second day - unless you're arranging different transportation or just pay-as-you-go for anything past the expiration.

We're going to do the Murano and Burano (lace) through DCL the first day if we can get it so we can go there and also get a chance to look around at transportation, etc. while escorted :) Then after we get back and have dinner onboard, we may leave the teenagers on the ship and DH and I go out and explore on our own - I don't mind wandering about with just him but the kids worry enough already when we venture out on our own that if we do "get lost" I don't want them panicking. Plus I want them rested for the next morning when we go to do our Secret Itinerary tour at Doge's Palace and explore around St. Marks Square, etc.

Hi Cindy,
I would like to do that same tour at 9:55. I need to check with the rest of my group to verify how many tickets to order. I think all 6 of us will go but I need to make sure. If we go perhaps we can all go together. I'm hoping it isn't too hard to get there.

Yay. We should head over together then! I think Wendy is going to a later one but wants to go over to St Marks Square early too.

It looks easy enough to get there, just figuring the right amount of time. Let us know if you book it. I think we could all head over early together. You probably want to book it soon. The 10:45 isn't available so only 9:55 and 11:something. Oh, I paid via PayPal, too. Super easy.

ok. I'll check with everyone tomorrow and will let you know if I am able to get the tickets.

Janet don't wait much longer. I think there are only 25 spots per tour..
They give you discounted tics if you book more than one tour so we also bought tickets for the clock tower tour at 2:00
