joining waitlist at sea

We are interested in buying a 100ish point contract to GCV. We are really thinking about doing so in 4-5 years (we own 220 pts at Aulani right now). I check the resale market periodically and it just doesn't seem like there are a lot out there and the direct prices just keep climbing! I am starting to consider going on the direct wait list while on our Disney Cruise this July. Is there an advantage to buying on board, if we are just getting on the waitlist for points?
