I suggest going with 64g. It'll last longer and he won't have to fiddle with itunes as much (why I quoted the below post - it is an option if you're really trying to save $$, but it's annoying).
I have 16g and I find myself OFTEN having to delete/re-add certain apps/songs/whatever and it's a pain. And there's NO WAY I could fit a movie on there now.

I work with iTunes. So I always make sure that people realize how iTunes works and helps to save space on your device.
You can uninstall any games or music or movies you are not into at this moment, but they are saved on iTunes and can be added back whenever you want. You do not need to spend the money on tons of memory. Just check and uncheck the items you want. It is so simple.
The iPad 2 is great. I agree to avoid the iPad 1 as it will not update with the new IOS coming out. As for new iPad coming out in October, don't hold your breath. I am not seeing signs of that one. I do think we will see an upgrade of some sort next spring.
