It seems like offering qualification of those points at $25/pt could be an interesting and potentially effective "carrot" for DVD to present to those post-3/20/2011 resale purchasers.:scratchin There have to be some other folks out there who bought restricted points who see themselves using the points 15 years beyond their current contract or who may have the same situation as the OP.

I don't know if they would get many takers, but it might be a relatively cheap and painless way to get a few more of those 2042 points extended.

It certainly is a more economical way to do it. Resale price + $25pp is certainly less than direct price, and they would at that point be the exact same thing. I'm curious to see how this plays out.

I'm not sure what I would do about extending if I was ever given the option. I'm old enough that the extra years don't really matter to me, so I'd only really be interested in it for my daughter's sake.

Trying to compare the two options?

If you extended a 100 point contract 15 years for $25/point, that would cost you $2,500 and give you 1500 more points to use (of course it is at the end of the contract, but is no different than buying AKV which would have the same contract end date of 2057).

Taking that $2,500 today, if you bought a small non-extended contract for 40 points and paid around $62.50/point it would give you 29 years of points for a total of 1160 more points, but you would get to use them now.

So one way to look at it is that if you can get an OKW contract for $25 less (and then extend it) than the equivalent AKV contract it would be a good deal what with OKW's lower MF and room costs.

With direct prices it is interesting that AKV has a premium over OKW given they both have the same end date now. AKV will be $150 shortly and OKW is $130.

Now if they ever offer an extension on BWV, then I'm going to have a really hard decision to make .

Should MFs factor into this comparison?

I was able to do it, but just had the chance to sell the contract for 30 more per point then what I had paid. So I never filled out the paperwork and sent payment in.
