Mean the most to you since then.

I love Darryl Worley's Have you forgotten. Everytime I hear it tears come to my eyes.

I hear people saying we don't need this war
I say there's some things worth fighting for
What about our freedom and this piece of ground
We didn't get to keep 'em by backing down
Now they say we don't realize the mess we're getting in
Before you start your preaching let me ask you this my friend

Have you forgotten how it felt that day?
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away
Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
We had neighbors still inside going thru a living hell
And you say we shouldn't worry 'bout bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

They took all the footage off my T.V.
Said it's too disturbing for you and me
It'll just breed anger that's what the experts say
If it was up to me I'd show it everyday
Some say this country's just out looking for a fight
Well after 9/11 man I'd have to say that's right

Have you forgotten how it felt that day?
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away
Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
We had neighbors still inside going thru a living hell
And you say we shouldn't worry 'bout bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

Now I've been there with the soldiers
Who've gone away to war
And you can bet that they remember
Just what they're fightin' for

Have you forgotten all the people killed?
Some went down like heros in that Pennsylvania field
Have you forgotten about our Pentagon?
And all the loved ones that we lost and those left to carry on
Don't you tell me not to worry about bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

Have you forgotten how it felt that day?
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away
Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
We had neighbors still inside going thru a living hell
And you say we shouldn't worry 'bout bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

Have you forgotten?

Have you forgotten?

Have you forgotten..and where were you when the world stopped turning (alan jackson)

Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day
Out in the yard with your wife and children
Working on some stage in LA
Did you stand there in shock at the site of
That black smoke rising against that blue sky
Did you shout out in anger
In fear for your neighbor
Or did you just sit down and cry

Did you weep for the children
Who lost their dear loved ones
And pray for the ones who don't know
Did you rejoice for the people who walked from the rubble
And sob for the ones left below

Did you burst out in pride
For the red white and blue
The heroes who died just doing what they do
Did you look up to heaven for some kind of answer
And look at yourself to what really matters

I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell you
The difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
Faith hope and love are some good things he gave us
And the greatest is love

Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day
Teaching a class full of innocent children
Driving down some cold interstate
Did you feel guilty cause you're a survivor
In a crowded room did you feel alone
Did you call up your mother and tell her you love her
Did you dust off that bible at home
Did you open your eyes and hope it never happened
Close your eyes and not go to sleep
Did you notice the sunset the first time in ages
Speak with some stranger on the street
Did you lay down at night and think of tomorrow
Go out and buy you a gun
Did you turn off that violent old movie you're watching
And turn on "I Love Lucy" reruns
Did you go to a church and hold hands with some stranger
Stand in line and give your own blood
Did you just stay home and cling tight to your family
Thank God you had somebody to love

I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell you
The difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
Faith hope and love are some good things he gave us
And the greatest is love

I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell you
The difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
Faith hope and love are some good things he gave us
And the greatest is love

The greatest is love
The greatest is love

Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day

Fragile by Sting.

If blood will flow when flesh and steel are one
Drying in the colour of the evening sun
Tomorrow's rain will wash the stains away
But something in our minds will always stay

Perhaps this final act was meant
To clinch a lifetime's argument
That nothing comes from violence
and nothing ever could
For all those born beneath an angry star
Lest we forget how fragile we are

On and on the rain will fall
Like tears from a star
Like tears from a star
On and on the rain will say
How fragile we are
How fragile we are
On and on the rain will fall
Like tears from a star
Like tears from a star
On and on the rain will say
How fragile we are
How fragile we are
How fragile we are
How fragile we are

Well, there's the old stand-by "New York State of Mind", but if you're looking for something that was written after 9/11, Amy Grant's "After the Fire" was written in the weeks following the disaster. It's a simple song, but its religious undertones take a gentler approach than some of the other songs written after 9/11 (nothing against those, though).

After the Fire - Amy Grant

(Chorus)
After the fire is over
After the ashes cool
After the smoke has blown away
I will be here for you

After the stillness finds you
After the winds of change
All that is good and true between us
This will remain the same

Slowly...slowly
We turn the page of life
Growing...knowing
It comes at quite a price

(Repeat chorus)

After your time of wand'ring
Along this lonely road
There will be many voices calling
Mine will say, "Welcome home"

Slowly...slowly
We turn the page of life
Growing...knowing
It comes at quite a price

(Repeat chorus)

I will be here for you

Superman by 5 For Fighting...it was the FDNY song that they embraced

Alan Jackson's "Where Were You When The World Stopped Turning".

Also the Eagles "There's A Hole In The World" which Don Henley started writing the night of 9/11.

EAGLES LYRICS

"Hole In The World"

[Chorus:]
There's a hole in the world tonight.
There's a Cloud of fear and sorrow.
There's a hole in the world tonight.
Don't let there be a hole in the world tomorrow.

They say that anger is just love disappointed.
They say that love is just a state of mind,
but all this fighting over who will be anointed.
Oh how can people be so blind

[Chorus:]
There's a hole in the world tonight.
There's a Cloud of fear and sorrow.
There's a hole in the world tonight.
Don't let there be a hole in the world tomorrow.

Oh they tell me there's a place over yonder,
cool water running through the burning sand,
until we we learn to love one
another we never reach the promise land.

[Chorus:]
There's a hole in the world tonight.
There's a Cloud of fear and sorrow.
There's a hole in the world tonight.
Don't let there be a hole in the world tomorrow.

[Repeat chorus: (no music)]

[Repeat chorus: 4x's (fade out)]

Kristy Jackson's Little Did She Know She Kissed A Hero song

He found some socks
She choose his tie
When he left for work that morning
He was just another guy
Going to work
He'd have to fly
Out to a meeting in L.A
So she had kissed him twice goodbye

Little did she know she'd kissed a hero
Though he'd always been one in her eyes
But when faced with certain deaths
He said a pray and took a breath
And led an army of true angels in the sky
Little did she know she'd kissed a hero
Though he'd always been an angel in her eyes
Putting others first its true...
Thats what heros always do
And now he doesn't need a pair of wings...to fly

The phone had rung
His voice was calm
Before he could tell her anything
She knew something was wrong
"I Love You So..."
Last words he said
She said "I Love You Too..."
Then the phone went dead

Little did she know she'd kissed a hero
Though he'd always been one her eyes
But when faced with certain deaths
He'd said a pray and take a breath
And led an army of true angels in the sky
Little did she know she'd kissed a hero
Though he'd always been an angel in her eyes
Putting others first its true
Thats what heros always do
And now he doesnt need a pair of wings to fly

Now he doesnt need pair of wings...to fly

may seem a litttle weird, but, after the fall by newsboys or Sunday bloody Sunday by U2, although i dont agree with their views on war, i especially like the part " And its true we are immune, when fact is fiction and tv reality"

Can't Cry Hard Enough Tribute

And this one.

If tomorrow all the things were gone I’d worked for all my life,
And I had to start again with just my children and my wife.
I’d thank my lucky stars to be living here today,
‘Cause the flag still stands for freedom and they can’t take that away.

And I’m proud to be an American where at least I know I’m free.
And I won’t forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.
And I’d gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land God bless the U.S.A.

From the lakes of Minnesota, to the hills of Tennessee,
across the plains of Texas, from sea to shining sea,

From Detroit down to Houston and New York to LA,
Well, there’s pride in every American heart,
and it’s time to stand and say:

I’m proud to be an American where at least I know I’m free.
And I won’t forget the men who died, who gave that right to me.
And I’d gladly stand up next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land God bless the U.S.A.

I was at WDW 3 weeks after 9/11. One of the many programs to raise money was on TV during that trip. I think it was a Sunday afternoon that I saw it.

I had been OK with everything that happened up until then. Trying to stay strong and not let my family see how worried and scared I was, KWIM? Then Lee Greenwood came on and sang that song. I don't think I have ever cried that hard before or since. To this day I have trouble getting through that song without tears. :sad1:

This song makes me cry EVERY time I hear it.... :guilty:

One More Day

Diamond Rio

LAST NIGHT I HAD A CRAZY DREAM

A WISH WAS GRANTED JUST FOR ME,

IT COULD BE FOR ANYTHING

I DIDN'T ASK FOR MONEY

OR A MANSION IN MALIBU

I SIMPLY WISHED, FOR ONE MORE DAY WITH YOU

(CHORUS)

ONE MORE DAY

ONE MORE TIME

ONE MORE SUNSET, MAYBE I'D BE SATISFIED

BUT THEN AGAIN

I KNOW WHAT IT WOULD DO

LEAVE ME WISHING STILL, FOR ONE MORE DAY WITH YOU

FIRST THING I'D DO, IS PRAY FOR TIME TO CRAWL

THEN I'D UNPLUG THE TELEPHONE

AND KEEP THE TV OFF

I'D HOLD YOU EVERY SECOND

SAY A MILLION I LOVE YOU'S

THAT'S WHAT I'D DO. WITH ONE MORE DAY WITH YOU

(CHORUS)

ONE MORE DAY

ONE MORE TIME

ONE MORE SUNSET, MAYBE I'D BE SATISFIED

BUT THEN AGAIN

I KNOW WHAT IT WOULD DO

LEAVE ME WISHING STILL, FOR ONE MORE DAY WITH YOU

LEAVE ME WISHING STILL FOR ONE MORE DAY

LEAVE ME WISHING STILL FOR ONE MORE DAY

I don't care for songs that were made up for 9/11....somehow that just seems capatalizing on such a tragic and awful day. The song that does remind me of 9/11 and makes me cry everytime I hear it is Ray Charles' America the Beautiful. I won't print all the lines of the song, just the first two choruses, still make me cry now just thinking of them and how they relate to 9/11:

Oh beautiful for heroes proved,
In liberating strife,
Who more than self, our country loved,
And mercy more than life,

America, America may God thy gold refine,
Til all success be nobleness
And every gain devined.

How about all of those politicians singing "God Bless America" ? I can't remember which ones or where they were, but it was very moving...

First one that comes to mind isn't directly related to 9/11 but more to New York City.

"NYC" by Interpol.
Chorus goes something like this:
"New York Cares (got to be some more change in my life)
It's up to me now turn on the bright lights
(got to be some more change in my life)"

Also agree on "New York State of Mind" by Billy Joel.

I sailed onthe Norwegian Dawn out of New York in June. They play this song when you sail by the Statue of Liberty. It really gives you chills.

Oh, another one I forgot about is Billy Joel's New York State of Mind. Can never hear that song without thinking of 9/11.

Yesterday. It was played on tv just days after the attacks (maybe 2 days?), and I just can't help remember it everytime I hear it. It sums it all up.
Also God Bless the USA (Lee Greenwood), America The Beautiful, Have You Forgotten, Where Were You when the World Stopped Turning (Alan Jackson), and Courtesy of the Red White and Blue (Toby Keith). I think Toby's song, and Alan's song express the emotions best. Toby Keith's song totally expresses the anger. Alan Jackson's song expresses the grief and guilt, especially the line "Did you feel guilty cuz you're a survivor". You bet I did.
