"I"m Only Going Because My Teacher Told Me To" Nov. 2016 PTR * update 12/2 TRIP REPORT STARTED! *

It's like you read my mind about the dessert party :) I'd been thinking about it and started following the thread about it on the Theme Parks board after reading a couple excellent reviews. However, the reviews were of the old dessert party, before they started holding it inside. Not that inside is bad AT ALL, especially during hot months! My reservations about booking it are mainly based around not being SW fans. From what I've read you should arrive like 90 minutes prior to the fireworks beginning and I don't know that I want to kill that much time in there. I know there's a lot to look at inside and you can meet characters, but we wouldn't be interested in doing either. I could see getting there an hour before the show but I'm not sure how negatively that impacts you, if at all. I'm thinking it may only keep you from snagging a table inside, not sure it has anything to do with the order the CM's escort you out to the viewing area. I should have thought about it a little more a little earlier because from the looks of the thread I wouldn't be surprised if our nights are all sold out, but I could still try. We did the Wishes dessert party a few years ago and were really disappointed and haven't looked into another dessert party since, but the SW desserts look so good and then the alcohol??!! It just seems quite a few steps above the other dessert parties!
Yeh, I'm not sure that you need to be there right at opening but you may be right that you wouldn't get a table right there in the main section. But if you doing that in place of a meal, you wouldn't necessarily be losing any park time (as you would lose some of that time eating your meal, along with staking out a fireworks spot somewhat early if you didn't do the party). There has been a few reports of the new one - I think they are linked to the first post in the Everything SW thread. I will say that I am a huge SW fan as is my DH, so I am biased. :) And yes, you could very well be right about them sold out though I haven't heard of any that are YET. I think its because the Disers are so much more on top of things and most people don't necessarily know its available to book yet...but that advantage will fade fast, I'm sure. I do know that occupancy for the party has dropped from 200 to 125.

Regardless, good luck deciding what to do!

I went prepared last September with the misting fans and frog toggs but didn't use them either. We were in and out to much during the day to even bother with them.

How easy is this to do? and when should I do it? I have read things about doing it as soon as you use your ticket to get in, but we were planning on doing rope drop that day. Then I have read to do it before I leave on the last day. I had planned on when we head back to the room that first day for a break upgrading as we are leaving the park before we come back for MVMCP.
That's the same reason we didn't use the fans and Frog Togg's, we were in and out so much it would've been a pain to keep wetting the FT's and none of us wanted to carry the fans. Since we did ok without them the first time we didn't bring any of either last summer and we did just fine. Well, we sweated our butts off, but we did fine!
Upgrading is (usually) very easy! It was when we did it at DS GS. One key is getting a CM who knows what they're doing. You should also know ahead of time what you should be charged to upgrade and if the CM you're working with wants to charge you more, ask for a manager or just say "thanks" and go somewhere else even though that may be a pain. For some reason I believe I've read DS is easiest as far as CM's who know what they're doing but that's not to say you'll have trouble at a park. We'll end up doing it at a park this time. I think your plan to do it when you're leaving the park for your break the first day is perfect :thumbsup2 No need to wait until the last day. The only thing to keep in mind is that if you've bought discounted tickets, like from UT or Parksavers, you definitely want to enter a park before you upgrade or else you won't be able to bridge the price.

Wait.. I'm jumping in.. but where do I get the small kitchen sink in the parks??..
We b there Nov 5 -13 . Vry excited to read yr post..
Hi there, and :welcome: not only to my PTR but also to the Dis! Will this be your first visit to WDW?
You can get the miniature kitchen sink at the Plaza on Main St. in the MK :)

Well I checked last night and it's actually available for every night we're there :thumbsup2 Talked to Steve and he read Josh's review of it on easywdw (which is a really good, positive review btw) and he's......not sure lol. He wants to think about it which is his usual thing - which is one reason I was quite surprised when he suggested this trip last weekend! I know you guys are big SW fans :chewy: :darth: And yes, going to it would pretty much take the place of a dinner, if anything we could still grab something at Roaring Forks when we got back to resort if either of us was hungry, but pretty sure I'd just fill up on desserts. I'm thinking more and more it'd be worth it for the alcohol and viewing spot alone, but since I opened my big mouth I guess I should wait a few days and revisit it with Steve  Just going to keep an eye on all our nights to make sure they don't all sell out!

You should totally use your Epcot tour and needing to eat an early breakfast as an excuse to stay club level :-) Gotta stir that pot.

Let me know if you decide to do the Star Wars party. I've been on the fence, I think for the same reasons as you. View looks great (especially with projections) but price not so much. Plus I'm not a huge star wars fan either, but I do sleep with one  While I have no doubt Jason and I could get our money's worth from the drinks alone, its the almost $50 price tag for my kid who unfortunately doesn't drink yet that I'm still considering it :P

If they would only lower that damn drinking age :sad2: LOL. Josh at easywdw did a price breakdown and I think you only had to eat like 2 small platefuls of desserts and have 4 alcoholic beverages to technically make the price "worth it" if you didn't include the M&G's, stein or prime viewing. I'm sure both of us couples' could manage that!
I'll definitely let you know if we decide to do it. I also left my computer open to your post so Steve would see the CL comment ;)

Tell me again exactly when you're there and when you start the CP, I'd love to find you!
I will be doing the DCP August 8 through January 5, but will be on Disney property starting August 4th. So I will definitely be there for both of your trips this year!!!

Your last day plans look like a fantastic, fun filled day in the parks. I really want to try one of the backstage tours but am nervous I would spend the extra money just to get stuck with a terrible tour guide. I am sure you will have better luck than I do and get a great tour of Future World, can't wait to hear all about it.

I may have to have both Ample Hills ice cream AND a carrot cake cookie at HS
This sounds like a great pre dinner meal to me!

I'm sure you don't know yet which park you'll be CP'ing in - will you be in all parks?? But once you know you'll have to tell me, and then PM me where you'll be working the days I'm there in Aug. so I can look for you :thumbsup2 Then Steve can take a PP pic of you and I lol!

I think getting a not great tour guide is probably the only negative about scheduling a tour. Well that, and maybe having crappy weather for one that's outdoors or almost all outdoors. However it seems pretty rare that I hear about bad tour guides so I crossed my fingers when we did KTTK. We had a pretty darn good guide, and then at the end of our tour we found out it was the first one she'd done on her own! I'll do the same for this tour.....and I'll definitely put a review in my PTR, but I think if you have a chance over the months you're down there that you should try taking one ::yes::

Nothing To See Here.......

At least not really related to (either) of our Disney trips. I'm still up in the air about the SW dessert party and I still have a couple more days until I order my awesome D&B magicband. Oh, and somehow I missed my 4 months to the day countdown for our Nov. trip! Oh well, now we have less than 4 months till that trip and less than 2 weeks until our adults only trip.

In other destination trip news, we took the boys and my nephew Michael to 6 Flags Great Adventure in NJ Tuesday. Ricky went there last month for his 8th grade trip; my sister and I took all the boys about 4 years ago. As we were driving I was texting my friend from college who lives in NJ and she made sure to remind me to beware G.A. "isn't Disney in terms of service or cleanliness". Yeah, that's for sure! Still it was fun, not too hot and the best part was there were no waits for any rides! Even the big coasters were pretty much walk-ons so we got to ride whatever we wanted 2-3 times in a row. You don't often see that at Disney except maybe at RD! Although here's something you kind of see at Disney......

DUMBO! Wait......not, it's Air Jumbo :rotfl:I had to take this picture. In other Disney/6 Flags news, for some strange reason they were playing the "Indiana Jones" theme song on their version of the Runaway Train........

They also have their version of Splash Mountain (plain old log flume) and KRR (Congo Rapids) if anyone is interested. They used to have a safari that you could drive through in your own car at an extra cost. We had no plans to do this so we didn't even look for it upon driving in. Then we noticed a safari "ride" in the park and decided to go on after our near vomit-inducing lunch, having really no idea what the ride entailed. We were pleasantly surprised to find out they've discontinued allowing you to drive through the safari and now have their own version of Kilimanjaro Safari! Of course it's "not Disney", but it was quite fun and Ricky said he prefers it to KS (he's no longer living in my home BTW). I enjoyed it because there were a few animals on there that aren't on KS. And now, I share them with you:

From their "American Plains" section, a Bison

Also from the same section, Theodore deer, named for Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt who apparently is considered the Father of...conservation maybe?? I don't know, but they have something to do with Teddy R.

From the "Outback" section we saw these guys. Might be a little hard to tell what they are since most are laying down but just think about what they have down in Australia besides those cute little Koala bears :dogdance:(not a Koala)

One more animal not found in Animal Kingdom is the Black, and Brown, Bear. The Black bears were wandering freely but the Brown bears aren't allowed to, being relatives of the Grizzly and much more aggressive than the Black bear. There was a HUGE Black bear at the edge of the road, so cute! Even cuter were these Brown bears playing in the water

Now the next few animals are also on Kilimanjaro Safari, but I got some cool pictures:

Hi Mr. Giraffe!

I will say, you get much closer to the majority of the animals on this safari. On the other hand it totally lacks any theming whatsoever.

Pregnant Zebras, anyone? I thought seeing these ladies pregnant was the coolest thing! Notice the other one in the background with the distended belly.

So just like in Georgia, I was able to find some "Disney" in a "not Disney" amusement park. Oh, another reason Ricky has been kicked out of my house is because he said he prefers G. A. to the Disney parks because of all the thrill rides they have. I guess I really
can't blame him at his age, because most of them are AWESOME. I went on 2 with him and my nephew: Nitro and this baby, Bizarro:

I tried to find a cool picture of the whole coaster but couldn't find one I liked. But here for your enjoyment is a picture of Ricky, Michael and Steve coming off Nitro after I rode it with the boys. Notice Ricky mid-air.......

And something else I want to mention. Every ride line has signs that say, "Line cutters will be ejected from the park with no refund". I think those signs are needed someplace we all love :scratchin

We all decided to go on their older wooden roller coaster, El Toro. If you're familiar with these types of coasters you know they are MUCH rougher than newer ones and toss you around like ragdolls. HOLY CRAP, mistake! I am completely fine with the drops, twists, height, and speed, but I was certain I'd be decapitated before the ride was over due to the positions the force was putting my neck in! Needless to say I'm still a tad sore today.......

Thanks for letting me share a bit of our day :) I'm a little sad because my nephew is leaving tomorrow and I won't see him again until Christmas. I'll be back with an update as soon as I decide about the dessert party and order my totally cool magicband, and in the meantime since I didn't take a selfie of Michael and I I'll leave you with one of Chris and myself!

BTW Chris doesn't like doing his hair and often refuses to let us help him, also refuses to get it cut. so chooses to leave the house looking a mess. This is how he chose to leave on Tuesday and I've given up arguing with him, so excuse his atrocious 'do.

Glad you had a good experience there we has a horrible one last month!

We didn't even get on any rides because the traffic into the park took hours, then we waited to get in, then we ate and they told my boyfriend his food was gluten free/made in a dedicated fryer and it wasn't so he got sick. The lines looked insane though that day. My boyfriend only wants to go back to Disney and Universal now (no complaints here!) :thumbsup2 So we canceled our Six Flags passes, and we bought Disney and Universal Aps this year. Our closest park is kind of nice (it was built around the time of Disneyland and has a fairytale/storybook section and a very small Cinderella Castle), but lacking in the ride department so ultimately it's not worth multiple trips a year.

The funniest thing is people there refer to the rides by Disney names I heard one lady ask someone where the Haunted Mansion was. :rotfl:

Glad you had fun. We have a Six Flags here and I used to go a lot when I was a kid and I'm sure we will more once the boys are older but for now, we don't. I couldn't even tell you the rides there except they do have a mine train and an old wooden coaster Great American Scream Machine, along with a newer wooden coaster Cyclone. There's several more that I don't even know about though. They have a log flume ride and another water ride with a bigger boat, I think (or maybe not anymore) and a version of KRR. I don't think they have a safari ride though.

The comments about Ricky not living with you are hilarious!

So sorry your nephew is leaving tomorrow. :(

Oh and I have one who doesn't like to get his hair brushed/combed either, even though he wants it cut into a faux hawk every time. Um, you have to do your hair if you want anyone to see the faux hawk! Lol

Looking forward to hearing more about the D&B MB ordering and the SW party decision.

I'll definitely let you know if we decide to do it. I also left my computer open to your post so Steve would see the CL comment ;)
I'm sure my powers of persuasion did the trick, right ; )

Josh at easywdw did a price breakdown and I think you only had to eat like 2 small platefuls of desserts and have 4 alcoholic beverages to technically make the price "worth it" if you didn't include the M&G's, stein or prime viewing. I'm sure both of us couples' could manage that!
I read the same thing. With the projections on the great movie ride I'm thinking its worth it, plus I know Jason and I could more than drink our monies worth. Just on the fence about the little one

We went to Busch Gardens here in VA a few weeks ago and had almost the same experience. I think the busch parks are about as close to Disney as you're gonna get, but still just falling short. But like you the lines were non existent. If only we could say the same thing at WDW

I will say, you get much closer to the majority of the animals on this safari. On the other hand it totally lacks any theming whatsoever.
Wow, that is crazy close. Like giraffe is gonna eat ya kinda close.

Pregnant Zebras, anyone? I thought seeing these ladies pregnant was the coolest thing! Notice the other one in the background with the distended belly.

I learned a long time ago to never call a woman pregnant as she may have just had a big lunch :-)

I tried to find a cool picture of the whole coaster but couldn't find one I liked. But here for your enjoyment is a picture of Ricky, Michael and Steve coming off Nitro after I rode it with the boys. Notice Ricky mid-air.......
Holy crap you are braver than me. My 40 something self just isn't up to these things anymore. My brother got me on 2 at Busch Gardens, including the one Fabio got hit with a bird on a few years ago. About half way up the 200 foot hill it dawn on me that I was afraid of heights :P

But once you know you'll have to tell me, and then PM me where you'll be working the days I'm there in Aug. so I can look for you :thumbsup2 Then Steve can take a PP pic of you and I lol!
I don't know where I am working yet but I will for sure let you know! I would love to meet you guys and get a picture!

Well of course! I have to take advantage of that CM discount while I can :cool1:

As we were driving I was texting my friend from college who lives in NJ and she made sure to remind me to beware G.A. "isn't Disney in terms of service or cleanliness". Yeah, that's for sure!
We went to Six Flags Great America, which is near Chicago, a couple weeks ago. I had to constantly keep reminding myself that we were not at Disney. However the pricing for parking and food at SF GA were pricier than at Disney, so I think that means the quality should be better, which it was not.

Still it was fun, not too hot and the best part was there were no waits for any rides!
I am jealous! Our Six Flags adventure consisted of 45 minute lines for every thrill ride, and that was with arriving 10 minutes before park opening.

Hi Mr. Giraffe!
Wow that is a close up picture of a giraffe! How cool! We did a drive through safari in South Dakota at Bear Country USA last summer and got really close to a lot of bears, buffalo, and other animals.

BTW Chris doesn't like doing his hair and often refuses to let us help him, also refuses to get it cut. so chooses to leave the house looking a mess
My younger brother was the exact same way as a preteen. He is now 17 and probably spends more time doing his hair in the morning than I do, so there is hope!

Oh man, that stinks about your boyfriends food :( It's not surprising though that they aren't nearly as good about allergies as Disney. But very dangerous..... the fairytale/storybook section sounds interesting! I'm going to have to look that up.

The funniest thing is people there refer to the rides by Disney names I heard one lady ask someone where the Haunted Mansion was.
This is funny, because Steve kept referring to their "express pass" as FP and I had to keep correcting him. And we all kept referring to Congo Rapids as Kali :)

The comments about Ricky not living with you are hilarious!
It's like sacrilege the things he said :rotfl:

I read the same thing. With the projections on the great movie ride I'm thinking its worth it, plus I know Jason and I could more than drink our monies worth. Just on the fence about the little one
I'm leaning more and more towards doing this just for the view. I've been reading a few more comments and reviews on here and, as much as I wasn't AS impressed with the projections when I watched the Livestream the other night, I know Steve and I will both hate not being able to see much and I definitely want to be able to see all the fireworks. Going to decide over the weekend :thumbsup2

We've done that Busch Gardens, I believe the last time we went the boys were 9 and 6. It was nice; fun. I agree about the Busch parks being the closest to Disney. I'd go back if we decide to go to Va. Beach again but I'm not dying to go back, We were there late Aug. that time and no crowds either!
Wow, that is crazy close. Like giraffe is gonna eat ya kinda close.
This guy was right up next to our vehicle! We could have petted him if we wanted to. With the exception of the lions, tigers, and bears (OH MY!) pretty much all the other animals could and did come right up to the vehicle doors, there isn't anything holding them back. When you could drive through in your car you had to keep your windows up because the animals came up to the car and often sniffed at your windows.......

Holy crap you are braver than me. My 40 something self just isn't up to these things anymore. My brother got me on 2 at Busch Gardens, including the one Fabio got hit with a bird on a few years ago. About half way up the 200 foot hill it dawn on me that I was afraid of heights :P
I'm 45 and other than things like BTMMR, RnRC and Splash, I only started enjoying crazy coasters about 5 years ago! I figure I gotta die sometime........
OMG I remember when Fabio got hit, that was freakin' hysterical. If that happened now there would be meme's all over the place about it!

I don't know where I am working yet but I will for sure let you know! I would love to meet you guys and get a picture!
Definitely!

With what we paid for tickets, parking, and the nasty food we could have booked 2 nights CL at pretty much any deluxe resort  It was crazy. Our lunch, which was counter service, was $89 for 5 people!!! We've paid upwards of $60 at Disney QS but the food was much better and.....you know, it's Disney. And this food was BAD :crazy2: I also noticed that funnel cake, smaller than you get at Disney, was $11.99. Needless to say nobody got funnel cake!
Wow that is a close up picture of a giraffe!
Yup! I will admit this safari has one thing over KS, and that's that the animals come RIGHT up to your vehicle. I can understand why Disney doesn't have it that way but it's still cool.

My younger brother was the exact same way as a preteen. He is now 17 and probably spends more time doing his hair in the morning than I do, so there is hope!
Ricky is like that now with his hair! If he's shave his head he could sleep like an extra 20 minutes in the morning! Chris? Yeah, he can roll out of bed 10 minutes before he has to go somewhere regardless of hair length :rotfl2:

Yeah their not very good with allergies it's not the first time it's happened at a Six Flags but last time he noticed right away so we didn't say anything. Luckily his allergy isn't life threatening but he does get sick enough that doing anything after isn't really an option.

It's a cute little park! It's owned by Sx Flags, but isn't really one. It's kept it's own name and has none of the DC/Looney Tunes stuff. It's nice if you live in the area, but I wouldn't drive hours to it because it's kind of small. Storytown is cute, but a lot of the unique walkthroughs are for little kids. Here I'll add some pictures:

Wait, do you mean Storytown up by Lake George, NY?

not too hot and the best part was there were no waits for any rides! Even the big coasters were pretty much walk-ons so we got to ride whatever we wanted 2-3 times in a row.
Sounds AMAZING!

DUMBO! Wait......not, it's Air Jumbo :rotfl:
Somehow, not quite as magical :lmao:

(he's no longer living in my home BTW)
Good riddance Ricky!

I went on 2 with him and my nephew: Nitro and this baby, Bizarro
I can't do the rides with all the loops and inversions any more  I get motion sickness like you wouldn't believe.

HOLY CRAP, mistake!
Yup. Those wooden roller coasters are murder. They always wreck my lower back. Ouch.

BTW Chris doesn't like doing his hair and often refuses to let us help him, also refuses to get it cut. so chooses to leave the house looking a mess. This is how he chose to leave on Tuesday and I've given up arguing with him, so excuse his atrocious 'do.
Same with my kiddo. I get, "Mom, leave me be. I like looking messy!" :sad2:

Yes! I wasn't sure where you lived or if you'd heard of it but we live about 45 minutes away.

(edit: I just looked at the earlier post and saw where you're leaving from. It looks like you live in NYS too so you've probably been to all the same Six Flags we have).

WOW! I went to Storytown with my family every summer for years when I was little :goodvibes Now I'm 20+ years older than you, so when I used to go those little nursery rhyme houses were THE exciting thing lol! And I loved them. So I remember fondly the 3 Bears house, The Old Lady Who Lived in a Shoe, they also had Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater's house with him and his wife inside and all 3 houses for the 3 Little Pigs. There was also something to do with Humpty Dumpty I think.
I haven't been since it changed to a 6 Flags but I'd heard they kept some of those little houses, which is awesome. Now I need to go through all my moms old pictures and find some of me there! I don't remember the castle, wondering if that's newer :scratchin

Have you gone to the Magic Forest? That's a creepy one lol. I didn't remember it but my mom said we went there too; then Steve and I took Ricky when he was 2 and it was so freaky! There's a book called "Weird New York" and it actually lists Magic Forest in there ::yes::

We're in Wappingers Falls, and we're about 3 hours from Lake George. I didn't realize you were in NY before your post about Storytown but now I went and started reading your current PTR :thumbsup2 I'm on page 2; will finish it tonight!

Funny enough I get motion sickness when I'm a passenger in cars, and I can't do rides like the teacups, carousels, anything that goes 'round and 'round. Upside down at the speed of light? No problem :D

I've been to the chiropractor twice since Tuesday to try and get my neck back to where the hell it's supposed to be lol!
Same with my kiddo. I get, "Mom, leave me be. I like looking messy!" :sad2:
:rotfl2: Well since Chris is older than your DS, I get this, "If people don't like me because my hair isn't perfect, that's their problem." I little hard to argue with but sometimes I try.....and 15 minutes later I wonder why I'm arguing this particular issue with a 10 year old!

Yes all the houses are still there! They haven't changed since I was a kid either. I don't know when the castle was added but it was there when I was a kid. They used to have Cinderella ride around it in a pumpkin carriage and she'd pick kids to go for a ride. They don't do any of that anymore, but they do have kids talk to "Cinderella". Though she doesn't quite look like Disney's Cinderella.

I've never been to Magic Forest but we've driven by it. I googled it and it looks creepy.

Haha yay!
