This is why they need to have a second adult on all buses. Not to protect the child but to protect the driver from accusations
Keeping her from crossing the road is huge. My sister was struck by a motorcycle getting off the bus. My father-in-law's younger brother was struck and killed getting off the bus.
I guess I would probably feel better about this situation too if it wasn't for the fact that this is a new bus driver for us.
And can I just say I'm appalled that it appears so common to have people blow through the flashing red stop lights on the bus I think they need to catch these people and take away their license, much like a DUII. I can't believe there are people doing this.

I would not be crazy about the fact she was alone on the bus with a male bus driver. I try not to have her take the bus anytime if possible but some afternoons its just not possible to avoid it but I drop her every moring at school. When I was a kid in 3rd grade me and my friend were the only two left on the bus-she was a bit of a wise guy and would stand up when he would say sit down- well he pulled the bus over and came back to the seat we were in and took out a knife and told her she better start listening or else. Well to a 3rd grader it looked like a butcher knife LOL- it was a pocketknife, one of those red ones with the flip out blade. But I was so scared to take the bus after that, and then when my friend told her mother my name was brought in as a witness and I had to go say what happened. I was scared that he would find out I ratted on him and come after me!
I started out in kindergarten letting her take the bus and she was let off a the wrong stop the first week of school, talk about freaking out! Not a fan of school buses![/QUOTE
First, let me say I am Sorry for what you experienced. But, if we try to avoid eveyr potential situation that MIGHT result in a issuen, we'll drive ourselves crazy. I was threatened at the age of 11 in a pizza shop. Should I never let me kids in a pizza shop alone? I think not.
And I wonder, would people have the same reaction if the female librarian was left on duty with their son? If not, why?

Because I bet that statistically speaking, females do less damage than males do.
I do get so tired of the anything can happen, maybe we should just stop walking out the door excuses.
People who don't smoke get lung cancer, does that mean we should all feel less concerned about smoking because it can happen even if you don't. NO. Some things contain more risks than others. Things can happen anywhere at any time. YOu use your best judgement and avoid putting yourself in a place that makes it easier for something terrible to happen. It is all common sense.

Every man is not a molestor waiting to pounce, after being a child abuse investigator I will say most children aremolested by family members, not strangers.
