If I'm coming to YOUR area as a tourist, what should I see?

Have you been to Bridge Street Town Centre?

It's awesome and it reminds me of Downtown Disney.

I can't believe I forgot to mention Bridge Street! In the summer months we are there every other weekend probably, very nice indeed. If only they had a "World of Disney" store. :)

I live 20mins away from Downtown Cleveland, OH so my list of must sees are:

The Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame
The Science Center
Cleveland Metroparks Zoo (really pretty when the colors are changing)
The neighborhood of Coventry (great little shops and restaurants)

If you are willing to travel a little then I would Amish Country to the list. Beautiful area with great food and shopping.

Indiana, north central

I would visit Notre Dame, College Football Hall of Fame (not for much longer, moving to Georgia I think). Studebaker Museum. The downtown is not bad, the Morris is beautifully restored and there is the art museum too. We're about 30 minutes from Shipshewana (Amish) and 40 minutes from Michigan City (outlet malls and the lake), St. Joseph, Michigan (beautiful beaches) is also about that far away. Plenty of parks. You can also take the train into Chicago fairly easily. We're about 20 minutes from the RV capital of the world too. ;)

Or...20 minutes to the west is my house! Depending on where you live, we could house swap for the week! I have a large yard, computer, several TVs, lots of video game systems for the kids, deck w/ BBQ and nosy neighbors to keep you company!

While I think this is a FABULOUS idea, it wouldn't really be a fair trade.Sounds like your home is MUCH nicer than my Indianapolis condo- I do love our condo- but only cause it's OURS, you know?

Wellll in the STL - the Arch is a must, the AB Brrewery, Grant"s Farm (home of President Grant currently held by the beer Busch family not the former Pres- great free except for parking open seasonaly) during baseball season of course a Cardinal game, the Magic House, City Museum, the Science Center/'planetarium ,the Zoo (also free and one of the best in the country ) and of course the numerous riverboat casinos on the Missouri and Mississippi rivers.

I have just been to the arch and the zoo of what you listed, but I have to agree that the zoo is world class.

o and niagara falls in the winter = disney festival of lights!!! :D

Please tell us about this. Or better yet, do you have pics?

Thanks everyone, keep them coming, I love it!

We live in the Rocket City(Huntsville, AL.) home of the Marshall Space Flight Center and The Space and Rocket Center.

Ooohhhh....If I sent DH to grown up space camp, what could I do with myself during the day?

I'm south of Rochester, NY.

So, I recommend a couple of wine tours around the fingerlakes while staying at one of the many Bed and Breakfasts. Also check out Letchworth State Park - especially beautiful in the fall.

Do you know when the college football hall of fame is supposed to move? I didn't know about that. A friend goes to Shipshewana each Christmas with her extended family, to the waterpark in lieu of gifts and loves it.

I know I'm the OP but I am going to bring up Indy's children's museum and Holiday World in southern Indiana as great attractions in case someone else is reading with interest.

Hubby and I took a long weekend away, about 4 years ago. Headed up to see the light display. Its amazing!!! We parked and just walked, and walked, and walked some more. Beautiful sights. To see the falls partially frozen, its just awesome. I highly recommend an early December visit. Something we would do again. Lisa

I'm on Cape Cod so..

Spend a day in Provincetown shopping and sight-seeing
Tour Cape Cod Lighthouses
Take the shuttle to North Beach in Chatham to swim with the seals
Ferry over to Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard for a day trip
Hit the Wellfleet Drive-In and fried clams before the show at Arnolds
Bike the path nearest the National Seashore or do the whole bike path;)
Spend at least one day on a bay side beach from high tide to low tide
Go deep sea fishing out of Barnstable Harbor (or a whale watch with kids)
Meander along Route 6A checking out farm stands or antique shops

I could go on and on but what I wouldn't do is...

Beach on the southside anywhere on the Cape (and if you don't know the difference, you may very well end up there)

Meander along Route 28 at any time in any town

Do you know where the best place to get carry out lobster roll is in Plymoth? I'm heading up next week.

I LOVE planning trips- to just about anywhere in the country. Please convince me what wonderful things I should come see in YOUR neck of the woods.

First thing to see is me. :thumbsup2

All kidding aside we have some wonderful areas to see.

1. The George Orh (THe Mad Potter)Museum.
2. Going on a real working shrimp boat.
2. Artist shops that specialize in jewelry, pottery and paintings which are all unique and some one of a kinds that are wonderful.
3. Casinos and fine dining.
4. Fort Massachusetts which you get to by taking a ferry. While there you can play on the beach and swim in the bluest water.
5. Dining in local establishments that specialize in delicious southern seafood.
6. Fishing, crabbing or shrimping, some which you can do off of numerous public piers.

I am forgetting some things I know but I can update if you are interested.

Sounds interesting. Does the ferry leave from Pass Christian?

:stitch: Bumping for the weekend crowd. I'd love to hear about LeHigh Valley, PA, New Hampshire, or somewhere I haven't even thought of ye (Like Huntsville!)

Where I live now not so much. However, I grew up in Northeast Alabama. To piggyback off of the Huntsville post about an hour from Huntsville is a little town called Fort Payne which has the Alabama Band museum which houses their awards etc. Little River Canyon is nearby and is gorgeous full of caves, hiking trails and you could even kayak the creek at the bottom. Also near Fort Payne is DeSoto State Park which has DeSoto Falls and a great little lodge. From Fort Payne you could drive about an hour north to Chattanooga TN which has the Aquarium, Rock City, The Incline Railroad, Ruby Falls, Chicamauga National Battlefield, Lake Winnepesaukah amusement park.

I am sure that there are alot of places I have failed to mention. People don't think of Alabama as a "tourist" destination, but there are really a lot of pretty places to visit.

im in toronto, canada here!

we have the CN tower, a great downtown district with awesome shopping, metro toronto zoo, algonquin park, canadas wonderland (big amusement park), marineland (like sea world) and one of the 8 wonders of the world, niagara falls is only 1 hour away!

o and niagara falls in the winter = disney festival of lights!!! :D

Hubby came home with some news article he found about Toronto and all the new housing around and the influx of people moving there. it was all about what a great city it is :thumbsup2

we both love Toronto ever since our first visit. It is one of our favorite places to visit.:)

I live in Hawaii....within 20 miles of my home are:

Diamond Head
Halona Blowhole
The USS Arizona Memorial
The USS Missouri
Hanauma Bay
The North Shore and it's beaches and waves (Sunset beach, Bonzai Pipeline)
Waimea Bay, Waimea Falls
Dole Pineapple Plantation
Ko'olina Lagoons
The only royal palace in the US
Waikiki beach
Polynesian Cultural Center
miles of hiking and other waterfalls...

That's only by me. It's less than 30 mins by air to Maui.

Niagara Falls, both sides any time of the year, very pretty and fun.
Sheas Threatre, lots of well known plays.
Erie County Fair, second biggest in state, always fun.
Sabres Game (if your into hockey)
Bills Game (if your into football)
Chicken Wings (best anywhere)

Meander along Route 28 at any time in any town.
