    Hi guys,
Most of us know you can only use magnets:thumbsup2 on the doors, now some people are putting the gel decorations on the doors as well.
    They discolor the doors!:(
I was asked to please remind everyone to only use magnets! The had to take down a lot of decorations this past cruise that were gels or taped on. The crew really loves the excitement the doors bring to the ship....just please dont put anything up that a cast member will have to remove.
    Thanks!

Did the CM say anything about charging the passengers for repairing the damages?

Last year on the Wonder we noticed a door that had some sort of discoloration. Have no idea if it was caused by gel or not, but the door needed repainting. And every time the crew has to add another coat of paint, that's one more layer for a future cruiser's magnets to try to attach to the metal door under all that paint.

Thanks for the reminder. I am sure there are a lot of new cruisers that may not be aware of this.

After Christmas, I need to start on my magnets.....I get so excited about our upcoming cruises. :yay::banana::banana::banana::cheer2::cheer2:

Gel decorations are horrific. Why do they even make those? My then 6 year old discolored a very nice wood dresser with one last year.

For any new members or anyone who wants to be reminded...there is a sticky thread at the top of the forum that asks adhesives not be used on the stateroom doors and I just added to the post that they do not want the gel decorations used at all...on doors or even furniture.

    Thanks,

    MJ

I only use magnets on the doors for last cruise I unwittingly gave out the gels for a FE gift. I saw a few doors discolored and felt very guilty for my part in the problem.

It is a self-stick cutout that is about 1/8" or more thick. It feels like flubber only holds its shape. DD had some of those on her window a couple years ago. She decided to toss them around her room and some stuck to her ceiling. UGH!!!! Never expected the color to come off on the paint.

They are similiar in texture to gummy bears and they are peel off and stick deocrations...you can google to see some pics. They are a pain.

I believe they are meant strictly for windows and they pick up any lint or dust so hard to reuse...I just do not like them at all and would never buy them.

We saw a few doors on Deck 5 of the Magic that were discolored with red shapes and letters and I am sure they were from someone using red gel decorations.

They are these thin gooey decorations that are seasonal and go on windows. Christmas ones might have the words "Ho Ho Ho" in them with a Santa. Then you put them on your sidelights or somewhere. They're really cheap.

We had a Halloween one last year which my son put on his window. He then took them down and put it on his wood dresser (medium color) and it left a black mark which the only way to get rid of will be to refinish the top.

These are right up there with the gooey eye ball we got in our boo basket this year which he threw on the ceiling that left a huge grease stain and the super sticky Halloween stickers from the boo basket in 2010 which he put on my pantry door and when I took them off the paint came with them. Boys!

Yipes! Those sound awful! Are they going to have to start searching bags for gel decorations? (OK, I'm mostly joking, but I can't believe people would use junk like that!)

I think people see them as an inexpensive way to be festive. Until they've ruined something of yours or someone else's, you don't realize how unbelievably awful they are.

Very true! I thought they were cute in the store for the kids' rooms. Had no idea what they were capable of.

I too, would have had no clue about decorating doors (and what is and isn't acceptable), if it wasn't for this site. Nowhere (that I have ever seen) has DCL put anything on their own site or in their printed materials. If I was a first time cruiser who had never been on the DIS, and I saw all the cool door decorations on board, I probably wouldn't realize that magnets were the only acceptable form of decor. (Heck, I probably wouldn't even realize that the doors were metal to begin with). I would just be thinking, "Wow, we should do something like that next time!"
