Your cliffhanger makes me wonder if we are at THAT part of the story now. :sad2: At lesat there was a slight silver lining!

Hunter has seen each and every Harry Potter book so I'm pretty sure that he'd like to see the Harry Potter section of the park. The one section that I know absolutely, positively that he'd like is the Jurassic Park section. He and I love the Jurassic Park movies!

I'm sure he'd love it! It's very well themed in that area. :goodvibes

I knew you were still out there Kimmy!

I'm sure I had more pictures from there, but I'm not sure what I did with them. All my pictures were very disorganized last year. :headache:

I am most definitely at THAT part of the story now......hopefully I'll be back in a few hours with another update.

Friday, June 3, 2011

Like I said in the last update, Friday was our last park day. We planned on using this day to hit our favorites one more time. This included a trip over to Hollywood Studios for Davis to pick up the case of Star Wars Vinylmation he’d been wanting. In past years he’d always bought the Star Wars Weekends coin set:

P8020135.jpg

But, for some reason, there were none last year? Anyway, we didn’t see them and I think Davis even talked to a Castmember who said they didn’t have any. So he had to pick something else Star Warsy for his Weekends souvenir for this trip - and Vinylmations it was!

Sometime in the wee hours of Friday morning Luke came into our room to tell us that Allison’s stomach was hurting. I got up to check on her and told her to just try to go back to sleep. She didn’t have fever, so I was sure it was nothing. Later that morning, I don’t even remember what time it was, but it was probably around 7:00 Luke came back in our room to tell us that she had thrown up. What a good little brother, right?

We went about getting ready for the day and as soon as the store downstairs in the lobby (I can’t remember what it’s called) was open, I bought her some Pepto Bismal. I figured she had picked up some bug from all that finger chewing she’d done after touching who knows what in the parks that week. The Pepto Bismal, however, didn’t help her any--I think it just made her throw up some more. Poor baby.

Davis & I decided to take turns in the parks with Luke. Davis began the day going to Hollywood Studios by himself to pick up his Vinylmation(s)?. He went very close to park opening time, I know, and got in and out of the park rather quickly. He did spend quite a while in the parking lot, though, trying to locate the car. I guess he was in such a hurry to get in the park that he forgot to pay attention to where he parked. It turned out that he’d parked a lot closer to the entrance than he’d thought and was looking in the wrong area! He made it back, eventually, though with these:

IMG_6487.jpg

I made sure Allison was all set up before Luke & I headed out to Epcot. She was on the pullout bed in the living area. We drove the car to Epcot that morning. (can’t remember why now) I told Luke it was his choice to do whatever he wanted. And you know he was excited about that!

Luke had seen others taking this photograph and wanted one of himself:

P6030483.jpg

I don’t even know how many tries it took to get that one! I had a hard time getting him to put in hands in "just the right place"

And we had to stop as we do every year to look at our babies’ Leave a Legacy tile:

P6030484.jpg

We took this way back in 2003 on our first trip. Count down 5 rows from the top of the section (not the top of the picture) and the kids are the 2nd whole picture from the right in my pic. (a baby in a striped shirt on the left and his big sister on the right)

Although I don’t recall the order we did these in, here are some of the things he chose:

Sum of All Thrills

The Great Piggy Bank Adventure

Playing video games in Innoventions (I couldn’t stay there too long, though--it was our last day, and he wanted to play video games?!?!)

Kim Possible. We did the Japan mission, which the last country we hadn’t done, even though we were without Allison and Davis. I’m still sad they didn’t get to see it, but I’m glad that at least 2 of us did it since Kim Possible is no more. Can’t wait to try the Phineas & Ferb one, though!

After finishing the Kim Possible mission, we bought 4 Kaki Gori in Japan and walked as quickly as possible back to our room at Beach Club to deliver Davis & Allison a surprise treat. Kaki Gori is the shaved ice they serve in Japan, and one of our must have favorite Disney treats!

Here's a link to The Disney Food Blog since I don't have a picture of ours.

Let me tell you, it was a very hard thing to carry 3 of those things through the park in the June heat. I was trying to eat mine so that it didn’t melt while carrying theirs both in my other hand, but trying to balance them so that they didn’t splat onto the sidewalk. And that nice, leisurely stroll from Epcot to Beach Club becomes much longer when you’re carrying meltable treats.

They were glad to get what was left of their Kaki Gori, but Allison did not feel like eating hers. Davis had gone down to store to get her some soup, but she hadn’t felt like eating it yet either. I don’t think she’d thrown up any more since we left, but she still wasn’t feeling any better. Davis said he was fine there and for Luke & I to go back for a bit, so we did.

Once we were back in the park, we stopped for just a bit to listen to Off Kilter:

292266206_photobucket_45703_.jpg

But it was so very hot in the sun and no shady seats open, so we didn’t stay long.

Our plan was to ride Spaceship Earth and then head over to Magic Kingdom for lunch and a quick ride or two before going back to Beach Club to switch with Davis. We also went through the Character Spot there in Epcot so that Luke could get some autographs for Allison. He was so sweet to think of her when she was sick!

P6030494.jpg

We headed straight for Cosmic Ray’s when we got to Magic Kingdom. Luke’s choice.

292266206_photobucket_45704_.jpg

It was getting later in the afternoon than I’d planned on being out and I wanted to get back to check on Allison and to switch with Davis so that he could get some enjoyment out of our last day. Luke really wanted to ride Stitch’s Great Escape, though, and since Davis does not like that one, I said we could ride that before we headed back.

(I really hate to leave it here, but it’s getting close to time for me to leave work and I need to wrap up some things before I go.)

Love the International Gateway of Epcot! I never knew it was there a few trips ago. I do have to admit that in the dead of summer, I don't know that I'd enjoy it that much

Our waiter, Jeremy, at Le Cellier (who recently found me on DIS as he's now on DIS too!) brought us new bread too even though I insisted that the ones we had were fine. We ate it like, two days later as part of our breakfast. It definitely wasn't the same (we reheated it in the microwave), but it was nice to have some random bread with our breakfast of mishmash leftover items!

I hope to one day do the Behind the Seeds tour with my mom. So many things to see! So many things to learn!

WOW, that pizza from Via Napoli is huge!

Still haven't had a chance to listen to the singing lessons/tap dancing lessons. I will have to make a stop there one day.

How cute that Luke got nervous about the Indiana Jones rope! We had a few people looking at Howard as if he were doing something wrong. Haha.

Haha, Howard has the same NASA shirt that Davis has!

I'd like to ride Forbidden Journey, but I know for sure that I would get sick. Davis is right; the ride vehicle arms are the same as Sum of All Thrills. It's called KUKA. Disney originally wanted them for an Incredibles themed ride, but Universal made the deal for Harry Potter.

The Pteranodon Flyers look AWESOME! I've read about it but haven't seen pictures that close.

I think I commented on FB, but oh man, that huge box of Star Wars Vinylmation?!? Haha, Howard's jealous. HAHA, and Howard has that same Tron lightcycle shirt too!

Poor Allison! It sucks being sick but it's even suckier (yep, that's a word at our house :rotfl:) when you're sick while on vacation. Luke was a sweet brother to think of her throughout the day.

We really enjoyed being able to walk to those gates...no parking or bus-waiting to deal with!

I don't think I'd have been able to save the bread for that long--I'm sure it would have been eaten later on that afternoon!

Yes! It was so neat and still "backstage" without being expensive.

WOW, that pizza from Via Napoli is huge!

It was bigger than we thought it would be, but it sure was good!

Still haven't had a chance to listen to the singing lessons/tap dancing lessons. I will have to make a stop there one day.

You should! Most of the times we've been down there, the alley has been empty. It's a nice quiet spot to sit and take in Disney beauty!

How cute that Luke got nervous about the Indiana Jones rope! We had a few people looking at Howard as if he were doing something wrong. Haha.

He takes after his mom, lol! I'm sure as a kid I'd have been nervous about it, too!

Haha, Howard has the same NASA shirt that Davis has!

Further proof that Howard's a great guy! :thumbsup2

Interesting. I wonder if an Incredibles themed ride is still on the drawing board somewhere? That would be a fun one!

Yes they do! The kids loved them!

I think I commented on FB, but oh man, that huge box of Star Wars Vinylmation?!? Haha, Howard's jealous. HAHA, and Howard has that same Tron lightcycle shirt too!

Yes, he was very proud of them, even if they weren't his top choice! Have you guys watched any of the new Tron cartoon series Tron Uprising on Disney XD? Davis & Luke have been watching it every week!

I'm so glad you're still here too!

Poor Allison! It sucks being sick but it's even suckier (yep, that's a word at our house :rotfl:) when you're sick while on vacation. Luke was a sweet brother to think of her throughout the day.

I'm almost positive I've used the word suckier before myself! It does suck to be sick on vacation, and I'm afraid she was sicker than we first realized. :sad2:

Luke and I had finished our lunch and had just began heading over toward Stitch’s Great Escape when my phone rang. It was Davis calling. He told me that an ambulance (!) was on the way to pick up Allison. Let me tell you, it’s very surreal to be in the middle of the Magic Kingdom and hear that. My mind began racing, running through all the possibilities. As he continued to talk I grabbed Luke’s hand and made a bee line for Main Street and the front gates.

He said that he had tried to get Allison up so that she could take a bath in the hopes that it would help her feel better, but that she was hurting so badly she didn‘t want to get up. He immediately knew that she needed to see a doctor, so he called down to the front desk to get a cab since Luke & I had taken the car. When he tried to get her up to go downstairs, she was hurting so badly that she could not walk or stand up straight. He then called back down to the front desk to say he no longer needed the cab, but asked about an ambulance. I’m not sure how it all unfolded exactly, but I think they must have insisted on calling the ambulance for him and were asking questions about the situation.

Luke and I got on the Monorail to the TTC, speed-walked to the tram, and made our way as quickly as possible to the car and back to Beach Club. On the way out of the park I explained to him what was going on and he was very worried about his sister and more than willing to get to her as quickly as possible.

We saw the ambulance in the parking lot when we pulled up and went quickly up to our room. That end-of-the-hall room came through for us in that we were so close to that parking lot elevator we were there in no time. There were 2 Disney people outside our room in the hallway and the paramedics and I think 1 other Cast Member inside along with Allison and Davis, of course. The paramedics didn’t seem to be too concerned, however. I had asked Allison that morning where her stomach hurt thinking appendicitis in the back of my mind, but she said it hurt right in the middle as opposed to the right side which is what you think of when you think appendicitis. They were asking the same thing. The “lead paramedic” (the one who did most of the talking) even seemed to be telling us not to send her in the ambulance to the hospital, but we decided that she needed to go. Especially since it hurt so much for her to try to walk.

I rode in the ambulance with Allison to Florida Hospital Celebration Health center. The poor baby was pale and you could tell she was in pain. When we arrived, they were very full in the emergency department, so Allison was put in a bed in the hallway. Doctors and nurses came by, but it’s all such a blur that I don’t remember much of that part. I’m not sure what time it was at this time, but I’m guessing somewhere between 4:00 - 5:00? (Davis, do you remember?) Davis & Luke waited out in the waiting room and called and texted to let our families know what was going on. Allison was asking for her Daddy who had been so sweet and had taken such good care of her that day. I went out to find him and stay with Luke while he went back with her. While he was with her, they took her for an MRI to determine if it was in fact appendicitis.

The final word was appendicitis and plans were made to transfer Allison to the Florida Hospital for Children in Orlando. Here is a picture of the tower Allison’s room was in that I took the next day:

292266206_photobucket_45706_.jpg

Yes, The Walt Disney Pavilion is where we were! This place was very nice, clean, well decorated, nice waiting rooms, etc…

It seemed like we were there in that bed in the hallway at Celebration forever, and we really were there for a long time. It seemed like it was the middle of the night before an ambulance arrived to take us to Orlando. I can’t even remember when Davis & Luke had gone back to Beach Club, but they had to at some point. Saturday was check-out day and Davis was going to have to pack us all by himself, plus find lodging for the next few nights. Needless to say, it was a very stressful time!

Our second ambulance ride was a bit longer than the first. The paramedic in the back with us was nice and gave me a blanket to use because it was very cold in the back of the ambulance. We arrived at the Florida Hospital for Children and went straight up to the floor and room Allison would stay in the entire time. There was a nurse there waiting on us named Danielle who was so sweet and helped us get settled. Allison would be having an appendectomy the next morning. I think Davis brought us a bag at some point with clothes, toiletry items, and Allison’s baby doll, Rose, but I’m not sure when he did that, after we were in Orlando for sure.

Rose is a very special baby that Davis bought for Allison when she was only 2 years old. He and his brother had taken her to the mall one day and bought Rose while they were there. She also talked him into a tiny little umbrella stroller for her baby! Very cute! Rose has gone on many outings and vacations with us and every time we take her out at least one person comments that at first glance they thought she was a real baby. We always enjoy that!

It must not have been the middle of the night that we got to Orlando, but it sure seemed like it. I didn’t realize how gross and sweaty I had been from that day in the park (and how bad I looked, lol!) until I was able to take a shower after getting to the Childrens’ hospital. Allison’s room was very nice and quite large. The bathroom had a shower and there was a couch in the room that pulled out into a bed, which I attempted to get a little sleep on.

Bright and early the next morning, (Saturday, June 4, 2011) they took her in for surgery. They did a laparoscopic appendectomy and it went smoothly. I was very pleased with the nurses, the surgeon, and the anesthesiologist when I met them that morning. I was only in the waiting room for a little bit by myself before Davis & Luke arrived. They had been up early themselves that morning loading up the car with all of our luggage. The next thing we knew, the surgeon came in to tell us that the surgery had gone well and that they were able to remove Allison’s appendix with no problems. He gave us a picture of the appendix and one of her gall bladder (which was looking nice and healthy)! He said we could go on up to her room and someone would bring her up once she was awake.

292266206_photobucket_45705_.jpg

Here’s another shot of the Walt Disney Pavilion taken from the breezeway that leads to the parking garage.

Once Allison was back in the room, things started to get a little better. They said she would possibly be able to go “home” on Sunday, the next day, as long as things went well. We were so glad to hear that!

Here are some pictures of the view from Allison’s room:

Luke is on the couch that pulls out into a bed. I also think Davis's chair will convert into a bed. I forgot to mention the drawers and cabinets that are on the wall opposite the couch! And that's Rose in the red sweater next to Allison on the bed! At the foot of her bed is a backpack that was given to her by the child life specialists at the hospital. It came with markers so that she could personalize it! She hadn't opened it yet it this picture, but she felt like coloring it sometime later that day. I though that was a really nice thing!

This one was taken standing in front of the window looking back toward the door.

We had discussed getting a plane ticket for Allison and me so that she could minimize her travel time and maybe she would be more comfortable than in the car, but the doctors said it would be OK for her to ride back to Arkansas in the car if that’s what we decided to do. Davis had been able to borrow some DVC points from the next year’s (2012) allotment to use for 2 nights at Saratoga Springs. I was thankful for those points and that there was a room available for us (it was even a 1 bedroom) I guess we also crossed another DVC resort off our list of places to stay!

The boys went back to check in at Saratoga Springs sometime after lunch. Davis let Luke swim for a bit while they were there. You know how kids love to swim on vacation!

All went well on Saturday and Allison was cleared to go home Sunday, probably around 10:00 am. I called Davis to let him know we’d be ready to leave soon. He and Luke were on their way shortly to pick us up. When given the option of riding in a wheelchair downstairs, or just walking out, 11 year-old Allison chose the wheelchair, of course, which Davis said added 30 minutes to their wait for us! We did have to wait a while for the wheelchair to come pick her up. But, there was a movie playing the lobby area downstairs, so at least Luke was occupied. And I'm pretty sure Allison and I watched "Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure" at least 2 entire times while we were there! We were so thankful and happy to be on the way out of the hospital! And Luke was excited to be able to show us around Saratoga Springs.

P6050535.jpg

Holy crap! I had no idea that Allison was so sick. Poor baby and poor the rest of you having to deal with it while on vacation. Thank goodness everybody in the hospitals were so kind and you were able to use points and have a place to stay.

Yes, it was quite the ending to our trip, for sure!

I don't know how many times Allison heard, "If you wanted to stay longer in Florida, you should have just asked your parents!" or something similar once we got back. I know it was hard on our parents and other family members to not be there with her/us when all this happened.

We were also thankful that it happened when it did, when we were still in Florida with the awesome Childrens' Hospital, instead of on the road in who knows where.

WHOA, I was not at all expecting that major turn of events in your latest update! Poor Allison in all that pain! And poor mom and dad knowing she was in such pain! Luke sounds like SUCH a sweetheart being concerned about his sister. I'm glad that despite all the waiting that had to be done, everything was resolved and that she had the surgery with no problems! Phew!

Gosh...what a trip to remember!! I'm sure this will always be a family memory!! As much as it was probably really hard and REALLY scary at the time...Is it ever NOT scary when your offspring is in the hospital? I'm so glad she was okay and that you were able to get her the care she needed. What a tough, strong beautiful daughter you have. I don't know if even Merida would be that "Brave".

Yes, we were still talking about it on our trip this year!

Thanks! She is a very tough girl! I also can't wait to see Brave!

We were glad to be leaving the hospital, thankful for how well everything had gone.

Somewhere along the way, we decided we’d stop somewhere off-property for lunch if Allison felt up to it. She thought she did, so we looked for a place near Disney. We never go off-property, so forgive me if I’m not sure exactly how we got there, or where exactly we were! Here’s a map of the location, though:

Disney-LGMap.jpg

We ate at the "F" marked on the map!

We found a shopping/strip mall area with a Flipper’s Pizzeria. I’d heard someone on a pod cast mention that they liked to eat at Flipper’s Pizzeria, so I suggested we try it out; which we did. Allison did well going in (very slowly) and sitting in the booth to eat. The pizza and breadsticks that we ordered were also good!

After our yummy pizza lunch, we were off to view our new home, Saratoga Springs!

P6050535.jpg

We were in the Congress Park section.

P6050536.jpg

P6050539.jpg

While I was only there for one night, it seemed like a great location! There was a quiet pool just across from our back patio and a walkway to Downtown Disney somewhere back there, close by. We did drive to the main building to visit The Artist’s Palette later that night, but in normal circumstances it would not have been too far for us to walk.

P6050533.jpg

P6050538.jpg

To me, it felt very much like an apartment complex. Maybe that was because of our room location? We were on the ground floor and kind of at the end of a short hallway tucked back in a little nook.

How about a quick tour of the one bedroom?

We got Miss Allison all set up in the living room with a movie or the remote or something. Davis and I decided that we would make a very quick trip to Downtown Disney to pick up a few souvenir items we’d meant to get and to have a bit of time to unwind from the previous few days. The kids had cell phones and emergency numbers as well as the room phone. We locked them in, gave them some instructions, and then found the walking path to Downtown Disney.

Once there, we headed straight to World of Disney and picked up just a few things. I know we got Allison a pair of Mickey earrings, but I can’t remember what else we got.

When we walked back outside I spotted someone familiar looking, someone, DIS-familiar. It was princess_momma, Kimmy! Yes, her tiara gave her away!

I knew she was going to be in WDW, but our trips weren’t supposed to line up, that is, until Allison went and had her appendix taken out. I told Davis, "I’m pretty sure that’s Kimmy over there", but I wasn’t sure about yelling out to her like some kind of freak! He insisted it would be fine, so yell out like some kind of freak I did!

I don’t think I freaked her out too badly (right Kimmy?) Somehow, though, we parted ways without getting a picture of the two of us.

Davis and I took the walking path back to Saratoga Springs. Here are the pictures I think I took on the way back: (if not, I took them on the way there, so just reverse it!)

We drove up to eat at The Artist’s Palette that night. The food was good, what you’d expect from your Disney counter service food court ish place.

And that was about it! We checked out the next morning and got back on the road to Arkansas.

We may have been leaving Florida, but I still had my Florida water!

We've visited Saratoga Springs (for just a little while) when we ate at The Turf Club. It's a pretty resort but I wasn't sure if it would be for us.

The walk from Saratoga Springs to Downtown Disney looks so nice and peaceful. That would definitely be a plus for the resort in our book since we like to go to DTD a couple of times each trip.

You already know that I love meeting other Disers so I would have shouted out when I saw Kimmy too.

Aww, great pictures of Saratoga Springs!! I love our home resort! We always request Congress Park because of the proximity to the DTD walkway. So nice. :thumbsup2

YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!! I've been waiting for this post!! lol truly...even though it took me over a month to comment on it. SO SORRY!!

Anywho lol. The only reason I may have seemed, idk, disoriented? It was because it was SO CROWDED. IDK about you, but those crowds at DTD were some of the worst I'd seen all week! And anywho, the crowd freaked me out and at first I thought I was crazy hearing my name. And then I couldn't see who was calling my name or the rest of my party and I just felt all discombobulated!! I wasn't freaked out by you, I loved it! I wish it could've been calm and not in a sea of people!! It was SUCH a lovely surprise and I was so happy to see you, especially after I had been pretty bummed thinking I would miss you by mere days!! Next time, we will have to get a pic! ;)

Yay! I kept you waiting long enough on it, didn't I? ;)

Yes, I remember it being very crowded that day! :crowded:

So cool that we were in the same place at the same time!!
