How much is an Oil furnace installed?

:scared1:We just received a quote for a Buderus furnace. The co. quoted us $11,000+ installed:scared1: I almost flipped out! I know it's top of the line from Germany but this is crazy. We have a house that is 100+ years old and need to replace our furnace. It is about 2,000 square feet. What have you paid? and what kind of furnace did you buy?

I also live in Ct and just put a new furnace in. Our friend did the installation and it was about $5500. What kind of furnace was it? That makes a difference. I think it would have been around $8000 if we had an oil company install it. My oil service man suggested having a heating and cooling specialist install it (don't tell the oil company!) and claimed it would be cheaper, so that is another avenue to look down.
Where are you in CT?

If you have to replace your furnace anyway you might want to look into a cheaper source of heating instead of oil. We have a natural gas heat pump which is much cheaper than oil to heat with. Before that we were in an apt. with an electric heat pump. Depending on cost of electric in your state this might be the way to go. Otherwise I would recommend the gas over oil. Natural gas has actually been coming down while oil has been going up.

Good luck with your decision.

I am in Stonington, CT. It is a German made burderus furnace G125-BE34 2107 Boiler. My DH says it's the best. Saves lots of money. It comes with a Hot water heater too. Just can't see spending that much.

I would love to except we don't have gas near us. We also have 2 330 gallons oil tanks in the basement.

I live in Connecticut and got a Buderus model G115/4 for $6,000 installed on 10/27/06 from a company in New Britain. It was a little uncomfortable for me because my son's friend's father is in the business, but he ended up telling me that he couldn't even by the same furnance for that price. I had oil heat and they call it a boiler, not a furnace. Anyway, they removed a huge system that was the size of two side by side refrigerators and was so old that it originally burned coal! The whole process took two days, one to remove the old one and one to install the new one. I've referred the company twice , my mother and a coworker, and we're all very happy.

I just checked with DH; he's an HVAC service tech who has installed numerous Buderus systems. He said Buderus is a great top of the line system and price varies significantly based not only on the system you are having installed but what else they have included when pricing the install of your system. Does the price include new oil tank or baseboard, etc. Price varies significantly also based upon the size of your house and what they have to do to get the system into your house; do they have to remove multiple systems and re-wire? Is your house larger requiring a larger system and more pipe? His recommendation, get two or three price quotes from various installers.

Thanks. That's what were doing. My DH call the installer today and asked for a cheaper model of the same system. I guess it's one of the better ones. It also includes a new water tank which I'm not sure we need. We
ve been fine without one. We are also getting a few more quotes. It does not include a new oil tank or baseboard. Hopefully we'll get some reasonable quotes that I can stomach.

We had a Budderus boiler installed almost 5 years ago, plumbed two new bathrooms and the kitchen (basically all the plumbing in the house) for $14k.

The furnace is great. We had some switchy thing go on it not too long ago that DH was able to replace himself at little cost.

Last year when oil prices went so high, we installed a double-flued chimney and two woodstoves. We also bought a ton of wood. We are all set to be warm for a long time.
