How much Christmas can we squeeze into 3 days? Nov/Dec 2015 TR *NEW TR Link 5/18!*

Fantasyland Favorites

Our first FP+ was for The Little Mermaid so we made our way back to New Fantasyland. This is one of my favorite rides since I love The Little Mermaid! I’m vowing to meet Ariel this trip!!

So remember how SIL and BIL decided to tag along to the party? I told Jim that they wouldn’t have any FP+ with us. They had purchased their tickets online and picked them up at will call that day. So Jim suggests that maybe some of us (me, my parents, the boys) could let SIL or BIL use OUR bands for a ride?

Um, no.

Like, really no.

This is the trip that I planned and we paid for so in no way am I giving up a chance to ride something (or taking that chance away from my parents or the boys). So I politely told him that he could tell them to meet us at the exit, took the boys hands, and started marching to the queue.

He eventually caught up to us and seemed very confused about why I was upset. He did eventually apologize later about the whole thing, so water under the bridge and all that. But I was fuming at the time!!

Trying to put it all to the side, I tried to enjoy the queue. I know the standby one has lots more detail but I really just love everything about this ride.

I took plenty of pictures and was singing along with all of the songs!

We had some time before our next FP+ at Winnie the Pooh so we headed back to Storybook Circus. I really wanted to see if Jake was tall enough for the Barnstormer.

And he was! In fact, he knocked his head pretty hard on the height measuring stick. The CM called it the “bonk of honor!” :rotfl:

The standby wait was only 15 minutes so we got in line. The queue has some pretty funny stuff that the boys always enjoy looking at.

Jake and I were in the last car. I think my SIL sat with Colin and my dad sat with Nate. My mom rode alone and I think Jim and BIL sat this one out.

Heading up the hill!

And Jake LOVED it! First rollercoaster was a success!

Our Winnie the Pooh FP+ window wasn’t quite open yet so we went over to the Tea Party. We just had to wait for the current ride to end before we were spinning around!

Nate insisted on a picture with the Mad Tea Party sign for some reason. "I know you'll want this for your report, Mommy." :rotfl: He knows me well.

Our FP+ window for Winnie the Pooh had opened so we went right over. SIL and BIL waited in the seating area for Friar's Nook and Storybook Treats. We let the boys play in Pooh's house for a bit.

We enjoyed our ride through the Hundred Acre Wood. This is really such a cute ride and the boys love the characters, so we always enjoy it. We were laughing remembering the time get got stuck in the Heffalumps and Woozles room but luckily this ride through was smooth!

Our next FP+ was for Peter Pan but still a bit away so we decided a ride on the Carousel was in order. I took this picture from the stroller parking area because the castle was just looking too pretty! :goodvibes

We still had a bit of time before our FP+ so I decided we should do Small World while we were there. The standby wait was 20 minutes and it didn’t take quite that long. The boys really enjoy this ride but I know it’s mostly a love/hate thing. So I'll put it out there that love it! :lovestruc

We hustled over to Peter Pan for our FP+. SIL and BIL sat this one out. Jim knew better than to suggest giving them our bands this time.

And the only picture I ever seem to take of Peter Pan.

Then it was time to find a spot for the parade! But spoiler alert – not all in our group would be able to stay to see the parade…

Great photos as you headed into MK!

Use YOUR FPs? The ones YOU made well in advance and most likely stressed over? NO WAY!! I don't blame you for being mad. They could go wait in the standby line if they wanted to ride so bad!

Yay I'm glad Jake was tall enough for Barnstormer and enjoyed it!

"I know you'll want this for your report" :goodvibes LOVE IT!

Sounds like really productive time spent before the start of the party!!

The flames are shooting out of my head again for you...share your MBs?! He obviously lost his mind for a moment.

I always forget about the Barnstormer but I bet my newly brave 6yo would probably do better on that one as a first Disney coaster! Some day we'll ride Rock'n rollercoaster together and I will be the happiest mama of all!!!

I didn't know they were planning to add names at the end of It's a Small World?!! I must have missed something :) What else do I not know about?!!?!

Main Street was so pretty and I was glad we got a chance to catch the Main Street Philharmonic!

Right? I'm glad everyone understands. Looking back I felt a little bit selfish but really, they knew about the trip in advance. We could have made FP+ for them if they had purchased the tickets more than 1 day before the party. So no, not sharing my bands!

Yay I'm glad Jake was tall enough for Barnstormer and enjoyed it!

It was really nice that he was tall enough for something and didn't have to sit out yet again. And he's a thrill seeker so I know he'll love all the big rides when he's bigger!

"I know you'll want this for your report" :goodvibes LOVE IT!

I think I mentioned quite a bit that I wanted pictures of everything for my trip report. I guess he thought it needed a picture of him too!

Sounds like really productive time spent before the start of the party!!

We did get quite a bit done! Almost all of Fantasyland - definitely where most of our family favorites are!

The flames are shooting out of my head again for you...share your MBs?! He obviously lost his mind for a moment.

Right? I can't even imagine a time where that would happen. Given they knew about the trip for almost 6 months...they could have easily purchase tickets and we would have been able to book FP+ for them! But give up my FP+ the day of the party...no thank you!

I always forget about the Barnstormer but I bet my newly brave 6yo would probably do better on that one as a first Disney coaster! Some day we'll ride Rock'n rollercoaster together and I will be the happiest mama of all!!!

It's a great first coaster! Very short and not dark at all! Nate is pumped to ride Space Mountain this trip but I think he has no idea what he's in for...I'm thinking there won't be a second ride!

I didn't know they were planning to add names at the end of It's a Small World?!! I must have missed something :) What else do I not know about?!!?!

I think this is a pretty new thing, in the past month or so. I guess they scan your band and create messages for your party? And I've heard something similar is coming to the Haunted Mansion!

I can kinda see where Jim was coming from in wanting to figure out a way to make everyone a little bit happy (I tend to think that way as well) but probably a case he should have just said that proposal internally and not out loud ;)

Glad you enjoyed your ride under the sea - it is a cute ride - nothing technologically amazing but pretty well done - and the queue is really cool!

"Bonk of honor" is an amazing term!

Glad Jake enjoyed Barnstormer ... my son's first ride on that was less successful

I too really like It's a Small World. I do have to say that I like the versions I have done that have the Disney Characters added (California and Hong Kong)

I suspect that Jim has been well trained to be polite, and his auto-pilot polite mode took over for a brief minute. If you're a guest in my house, you may sleep in my bed. You may drive my car (the old one...) You may eat all my food. You may drink all my beer. But you may NOT drink out of my Disney castle mug!

I can definitely see it from this point of view as well. I know he wanted his sister to have a chance to ride. But it would have been nice if he had offered up his band versus everyone else's! It did all work out and we got to ride a few things as a group as well!

Lol, I'm always worried for a second that someone will see me rocking out Disney style to Under The Sea, hand gestures and all!

I sing it at full volume at home and in the car...and on the ride! No shame is singing it at Disney!!

That's what I'm calling it from now on when I hit my head getting in and out of my car!

It's a nice term, right? :rotfl2:

Now that is a cute cupful of Jake!

He was a big tea cup fan! And the perfect companion for my mom since she hates the spinning and he hasn't figured the whole system out yet!

See, always new things to see - how have I missed this hippo? :joker:

I first read about it on a TR here and now it's one of my favorites parts of Small World!

I think the fact that The Little Mermaid is my favorite childhood Disney movie adds to the whole attraction for me!

"Bonk of honor" is an amazing term!

Isn't it just perfect! The first Disney ride with a height restriction for him so it was a momentous occasion!

Glad Jake enjoyed Barnstormer ... my son's first ride on that was less successful

He is a thrill seeker in general so we're just lacking in the height department before taking on the big stuff. But I think kids are in the roller coaster camp or way on the other side!

I too really like It's a Small World. I do have to say that I like the versions I have done that have the Disney Characters added (California and Hong Kong)

Look at you, world traveler! I do think the version at DL is very interesting with the characters worked into the attraction. They did a really nice job incorporating them just the right way and still making it seem natural.

Never thought of O'Hana's for breakfast.... yum! All the food looked so tasty; I don't blame Jake for keeping his eyes on the prize.. LOL. Adorable character meets and photos too :thumbsup2

Ohana was a great spot for breakfast! We did love the characters but I think my favorite thing was that it was served family style. No one had to make trips up to a buffet and chance missing the characters!

Mickey's Once Upon a Christmastime Parade

*We leave TOMORROW for our trip! We'll be spending the night at a hotel near the airport and flying out on Saturday. I'm trying to wrap up this TR tonight so it will be all finished and I can focus on my next TR when I get back!*

After we had finished up our favorites in Fantasyland, we headed over to Main Street to catch a bit of the castle lighting and then get a spot for the parade.

We managed to make it to just between Crystal Palace and The Plaza to see the start on the castle lighting (A Frozen Holiday Wish officially, I think?). We couldn't see the stage show but had a nice view for the projections and lighting!

Things went all crazy at this point with people exiting the park and scrambling to find spots for the parade. I noticed a clearing right on the curb in front of The Plaza so I zoomed over and we managed to score a front row seat on Main Street for the parade! :thumbsup2

The view from our spot

I sent Jim and my dad over to Casey's to grab dinner for us while we waited for the parade to start. I was feeling pretty pleased with myself that we had gotten such a great spot for the parade. And that's when Nate uttered the dreaded words...

"My stomach hurts." :sad2:

Oh, no. No, no, no, no. This was not good. Especially since I knew the stomach bug was running rampant around the parks. I asked if maybe he was hungry and he said no, he really didn't feel good. So I took him over to the Baby Care Center near Crystal Palace.

I'll spare the details but Nate did indeed have the stomach bug. Yuck. I told him that he could either wait it out at the party or I could take him back to the resort. He said he didn't feel good and just wanted to go back to the room and sleep.

And really, how can you say no? So we walked back over to our spot and I explained the situation to everyone - Nate and I were going to be heading back to Pop for him to rest. And my mom, super hero that she is, said "No, you're not. I'll take him back. You stay, you've been planning this trip forever."

Seriously, I have the best mom in the entire world. :lovestruc

I made sure she was really ok with it and asked Nate if he would be fine. He was happy to go back with my mom so off they went to Pop. I'm so thankful that she gave me that chance to stay for the remainder of the party.

We texted and called a few times. She said they had a few "incidents" on the way back to the room (I'll leave it at that for the faint of heart and stomach) but they made it back and after a bath he promptly went to sleep.

So with this amazing gift from my mom, we settled in to wait for the start of the parade.

Colin was my parade partner.

And the finally we heard the music! Mickey's Once Upon a Christmastime Parade was here!

The Frozen takeover.

I was happy to see Vanellope in her car!

I really loved this spot because we could see the castle in the background as the parade was coming down Main Street and then look the other way to see all the way down to the tree, all the time while watching the snow fall around us. Serious Christmas spirit perfection!

The princesses were next!

Toy Story friends

And these toy soldiers were amazing! The precision was crazy!

And then it was Santa!

I really loved this parade. Full of Disney fun and Christmas magic. But I think I have to give the one up to Boo to You still. I love that music, the dancers and gravediggers!

We took a quick bathroom break and then settled in for Celebrate the Magic and Holiday Wishes!

Holiday Wishes

Mickey's Once Upon a Christmastime parade had been amazing and now it was time to settle in and wait for Celebrate the Magic and Wishes. I was texting with my mom at this point to check on Nate. As much as I really did enjoy the parade, I was feeling quite sad that Nate and my mom weren't there to enjoy it as well.

Soon, it was time for Celebrate the Magic! Now, I really do love Wishes. But I'm pretty sure Celebrate the Magic is inching up to be my actual favorite portion of any nighttime entertainment. I love the music and the projections. I swear I get tears in my eyes every time I see it!

We also got to see the Christmas overlay and it was pretty special. I loved the projections!

This was an amazing show! The finale was awesome with fireworks going off all around. I'm going to have to say this is a tie with Hallowishes. Too close to call!

We gathered our things up and decided that we would head over to Tomorrowland to do some rides and maybe get some cookies!

It's a Totally Tomorrowland Christmas!

After Holiday Wishes, we wanted to head over to Tomorrowland for a few rides. Colin was requesting Buzz Lightyear so that was our mission!

I really do like the new Plaza Gardens and the walkways between. We stopped to get a picture of the castle.

And then over to Tomorrowland. I think Tomorrowland at night is absolutely beautitful!

The wait at Buzz Lightyear was only 10 minutes so we got in line to do our part to defeat Zurg.

My score was pathetic enough that I didn't bother to take a picture! Our PhotPass pictures from this ride were pretty funny.

SIL, my dad, and Jake were all very focused.

I was really getting into the part.

And solo ranger, Jim.

And then this gem popped up on my PhotPass account.

Honestly, one of my favorite pictures from the entire trip and it's not even my family.

Colin's next request was the People Mover, so over we went!

I love the views from the People Mover at night!

https://flic.kr/p/Cqd3ww

And since we were there and the standby wait was 5 minutes, we took one more spin on Buzz!

I had read pretty good reviews of the Totally Tomorrowland show so we went over to check it out. I'm thinking we stopped at The Lunching Pad for cookies and hot chocolate as well!

Cookies in hand, we settled in for the show!

I'm going to be honest, I don't really remember the story behind the whole show but it had something to do with Stitch and protecting Santa/Christmas? Whatever the premise, the show was very cute. The songs were catchy and we all enjoyed watching it.

Obviously, some of us found it more entertaining than others.

We were all feeling quite DONE at this point and decided to head out. It was only about 10:45 but I just knew the boys couldn't hold out until 12. I was pretty tired too and the party just didn't seem the same without Nate and my mom there.

I got a few more pictures of the castle and Main Street was we slowly made our way out.

The wait for the bus back to Pop was very long. It took us a total of 45 minutes to get from the bus stop to the room.

We all settled in for the night and made sure everything was ready for check out in the morning.

Heading Home and Conclusions

We had an early flight and the Magical Express was scheduled to pick us up at 6:30 so we were up very early to get everything packed and off to Resort Airline Check In. We said goodbye to Pop and Nate requested one more picture with the tree.

He was feeling better at this point, just tired.

Goodbye, Pop!

We arrived at MCO and made it through security with no problems. We got coffees and the boys ate some dry cereal I had packed while we waited to board.

Our flight was uneventful - Jake slept, Nate read, and Colin did this the entire time.

Then it was back to Pittsburgh and a drive back home. Our Christmas at Disney was over. :( But the fact that our next trip was on the horizon made that Post-Disney Depression much easier to bear!

Conclusions

I'm keeping this short and sweet since I'm trying to wrap this whole thing up tonight!

Disney is magical anytime. But Christmas at Disney? That's simply amazing.

I was really happy we planned this trip since it turned out to be the last year of the Osborne Lights. We managed to squeeze in just as much "Christmas" as we could with 2.5 park days. I would have loved to have seen the Candlelight Processional but that will have to be saved for a future trip when the boys are older. MVMCP was fun as expected. I loved the music and decorations that really brought the Christmas spirit to the Magic Kingdom. The fact that Nate got sick definitely put a damper on my overall enjoyment of the party. I was worried about him and feeling guilty that my mom had gone back with him. We did have a great time, but I think a repeat with 100% healthy kids is necessary!

Thanks for following along! :goodvibes I'll be sure to post a link to my next TR when we return!

So it turns out, my sister in law and her husband want to join us for the day. Not just breakfast at Ohana, they also want to come to MVMCP too. And every part of me was screaming “No, no you can’t! Make some advance plans people! You’ve known about this trip for 6 months!” I (somewhat) calmly said “That’s fine, I’m sure it will all work out.” Because really, what else could I say?
:headache: Wow.

Now, this was my first visit to the Polynesian so I have no idea what the lobby was like prior to the most recent refurbishment. But I thought it was really lovely!
I still have to see the new lobby in person. It looks nice, but I'm sure it will feel very different in there.

And the CM, of course, was all like "No problem! It should be just a few minutes. Here's a pager." :confused3 Now like at TRex, I was really shocked that there were no issues with increasing our party size. But I'll take it!
Glad it worked out so well!

Very cute! Looks like a great meal and character interactions!

Very nice!

I never realized Chip was in there.

Oh, wow, the Frozen theme is very cute!

Spoiler Alert – Does that look like the face of a healthy person? Not really…more on that later.
:sad2:

He eventually caught up to us and seemed very confused about why I was upset. He did eventually apologize later about the whole thing, so water under the bridge and all that. But I was fuming at the time!!
I don't blame you! I can't imagine just giving up FP+ that you'd worked so hard to get.

And he was! In fact, he knocked his head pretty hard on the height measuring stick. The CM called it the “bonk of honor!” :rotfl:
:rotfl2:

And Jake LOVED it! First rollercoaster was a success!
Glad he loved it!

Nate insisted on a picture with the Mad Tea Party sign for some reason. "I know you'll want this for your report, Mommy." :rotfl: He knows me well.
Haha, smart kid.

*We leave TOMORROW for our trip! We'll be spending the night at a hotel near the airport and flying out on Saturday. I'm trying to wrap up this TR tonight so it will be all finished and I can focus on my next TR when I get back!*
Yay, have a wonderful trip! :goodvibes

Things went all crazy at this point with people exiting the park and scrambling to find spots for the parade. I noticed a clearing right on the curb in front of The Plaza so I zoomed over and we managed to score a front row seat on Main Street for the parade! :thumbsup2
Way to go!

I'll spare the details but Nate did indeed have the stomach bug. Yuck. I told him that he could either wait it out at the party or I could take him back to the resort. He said he didn't feel good and just wanted to go back to the room and sleep.
Poor Nate! What a bummer.

Seriously, I have the best mom in the entire world. :lovestruc
That is wonderful - what a lovely (and very motherly) thing to do.

I think Tomorrowland at night is absolutely beautitful!
I love the views from the People Mover at night!
Agreed on both counts! One of my favorite things!

Disney is magical anytime. But Christmas at Disney? That's simply amazing.
It really is an extra magical time. Part of why I am still considering our December cruise/WDW plan. Really love it there that time of year and it's been a while. Great to see the Christmas Party again, since we'd do that if we go. Glad you were able to stay and enjoy it.

Have a wonderful trip and look forward to hearing all about it! :wave2:

Jim, or poor Jim! I would have been totally furious too! Nice thought on his part but ummm no!

Also poor Nate! Happy he felt better in the morning and also happy he made it most of the trip with feeling pretty good, I do like that now you need to go back for another trip!

Overall it looks like it was an amazing trip! Have an amazing trip today and this whole week!!! Can't wait to hear about it!

Oh no poor Nate :( Your mom is totally the best! That was so gracious of her to take Nate back to the room and understood how much work you put into the trip planning <3 But poor Nate, I'm sorry he had a rough trip back to the room. Stomach bugs are the worst :(

I'm so glad you got a great spot for the parade! Love the pictures! I've watched FoF from there and it really is a good spot!

Love your Holiday Wishes photos!!

Peoplemover at night is so special! Glad you got to do some Tomorrowland rides!

Love your final pics on Main Street with the snow, so pretty.

It sounds like you had a nice time at the party. Don't blame you for leaving a little early, especially with an early pickup the next day.

Nate looks so cute by the tree, glad he was feeling better!

I'm so glad you had a fabulous Christmas trip! You sure did squeeze in a lot in a short amount of time! Thanks for sharing :goodvibes I enjoy reading your TRs so much and can't wait to read the next one!!

Great trip report! Very action packed and fun filled. Your mom is totally awesome for taking the little guy back to the hotel :) So glad he started feeling better the next day.... b/c a sick kid on a plane is no fun .... trust me, I know first hand :-o Have a great time on your trip. Looking forward to the next report!

First off - I hope your travels are safe and that you have an amazing trip!!!! (and no one gets sick!)

I can definitely see it from this point of view as well. I know he wanted his sister to have a chance to ride. But it would have been nice if he had offered up his band versus everyone else's! It did all work out and we got to ride a few things as a group as well!

So I have to be honest, I guess I didn't read the details in, well, enough detail as I just assumed it was his band as one of the ones being offered up. Given that was not the case, then I can firmly say "bad form!" ;)

This is a great picture! Really just something special and unique to Disney!
24501476156_ef9059eabe_z.jpg

I am so sorry that Nate got sick! And like you said, what can you do?!?!?

And my mom, super hero that she is, said "No, you're not. I'll take him back. You stay, you've been planning this trip forever."

Aw, Mom comes though big time! Though I can understand how you felt after and wanting to check in and it just not being the same without him. I am glad you got to see the parade and the fireworks though. The parade looks very fun - just lots of "Disney feels" to it ... and for the snow to be coming down is just magical!

Glad you are happy you did this trip and got to see the Osborne Lights one last time! I agree though, a "redo" with no sick kids is needed ;)

But I was fuming at the time!!

I can totally understand that as someone who always does the planning...offering up your FP's is NOT cool lol

OMG this would be my worst nightmare...I'm such a vomit phobe!! Although with that many people around there is probably always some bug or another going around the parks...I would have had a hard time enjoying the night too knowing that was going on...and also panicking about making the trip home with a sick kid(s)...glad it seemed to work out not too badly in the end....sigh! Looking forward to hearing about your next trip too!
