How Many ADRs Can We Fit in One Week?: April 2015 TR- Finished 7/3!

What a great day at MGM (yes I refuse to use the new name). Getting to ride Rockin' Roller Coaster 3 times sounds like a wonderful time to me. We have a little one so we haven't ridden it in a few years, gotta have to take a page out of your book and try and do it as much as possible once we are finally ready for it.

Your meal at 50's PT looks great, especially that chicken. Think we're finally going to give SciFi up for 50's on our next trip.

I was pretty happy with 50s PT and like the "act" the servers put on, though I know some people aren't into it. We ate at SciFi in 2012 and thought it was ok, but nothing amazing. I really wish HS would put some better restaurants in!

So glad I found your TR!! Yay for another Disney lover in RVA!!

Yay RVA! We should start a support group here LOL.

Great afternoon!

Beauty and the Beast does seem like a fun show. We usually see The Little Mermaid but maybe we'll switch it up next time!

Star Tours is a fun ride. We use the Rider Swap system since some of my boys are too short to ride - which means some of us get to ride twice! I love the different scenes!

We had a decent dinner at 50s PT. The food was delicious but our waiter was not in character at all!

TSMM is our favorite at HS! Such a fun ride!

I still haven't seem Fantasmic. I'm hoping we get the chance in November!

We're doing HS on a EMH day next trip so it's nice to hear that the waits weren't terrible!

TOT at night must be so cool - I bet it's even better in the dark! But I'm sure having the ride stop made everyone uneasy!

Definitely check out Fantasmic! It really is an incredible show. I would have liked to have seen it again that week, honestly.

Also, anyone out there got any tips on making my pictures a little bit smaller on here? I'm bringing them in from Photobucket and they take up a lot of space on the page! Just figured I'd ask before I post the next entry!

Day Three at Epcot: Miiiiiine. Mine Mine Mine!

Plans for the Day:

ADRs: Coral Reef 11:45; Le Cellier 6:55
FP+: Mission Space 10:40; Soarin’ 2:10; Nemo and Friends 3:20

Good morning! We are on day three of our trip and now it’s Epcot day! A warning for you all: we are not big Epcot fans :-\ I know some people are HUGE Epcot fans, but we’re not. :confused3 We enjoy the World Showcase, but Epcot just feels very dated to us. I will say that we visited during the Flower and Garden Festival though, and we were very impressed with that! That being said, this day’s report will probably be split into more posts than usual because I took a lot of photos.

We didn’t wake up super early, since we’re not really rope drop people or anything. We got up and sat on the balcony and ate some of the cereal we had brought. We really enjoyed watching the animals, especially this one bird, who we named Kevin (as in the movie, Up):

11053559_10156073282225377_7199284696671157104_o_zpse7ylcvsj.jpg

I know I’ve mentioned before that I love the movie Up, but let me take this opportunity for me to fully explain. First, I loved the character Kevin and name every random animal I see Kevin. This includes every inchworm (long story), and my cat (see below). We also have a golden retriever named Russell. Yes, we know that Dug would have been the better name. He is basically the real life Dug, but the name Russell just fits him so perfectly.

Kevin stalking my other cat like a lunatic.

And helping me study for the bar exam last summer.

So anyways, this bird Kevin was named as such because it sounds EXACTLY like the bird in the movie. I seriously think they must have used its call for the sound effect of Kevin. It was cracking us up. And it had this one rock it would run to every morning and stand on and wait to be fed. We loved watching him!

Once we had eaten, we headed down to take the bus to Epcot. We made it over there fairly quickly, and were probably in the park by about 9:30 AM. Chris was on bag duty today, so I strolled into the park while he waited in the not too terribly long line. While he was getting everything checked, I stopped by one of the kiosks right out front to check out some pins. Here’s one where I can finally remember a specific pin I bought! We decided to get the Flower and Garden pin as a good memento of our trip. Sorry, I had to steal the picture from the internet.

Also, obligatory:

11047873_10156078379795377_4228728848272192509_n_zpsrfkeaept.jpg

As we were walking in, we knew we would have some free time before our first FP, so we headed to Test Track to see what the line looked like. The wait time for the ride was about 30 minutes, but the single rider line was only 10. We weren’t worried about sitting together, so we decided we’d do that.

I should add that when we came to Disney in 2012, Test Track was under refurbishment at that time. I had ridden it in 2005, but Chris never had. I couldn’t remember too much of it from outside, other than the outside loop and the hot and cold room. I was eager to see how the new ride looked!

When we got inside, we sort of strolled right by the design screens since we didn’t really know what they were. Plus, the line was so short that we didn’t want to stand there designing things so we just got in line. Funnily enough, the lady with the fantastic nails from HS was in line in front of us again! Isn’t it weird how you run into the same people in Disney? No joke when I went to Disney in 2012, I ran into a lawyer I’d worked with that summer while we were in Magic Kingdom. Seriously, what are the odds of that?:rotfl:

We were quickly at the front of the line. As it turns out, Chris was in the car right behind me, so it’s not like we were really that split up. I have to say... not really that impressed :-\ I mean, am I missing something? It seems like your sort of swerved around a tractor trailer, went over some bumps, and then headed outside. Neither Chris nor I thought much of it, and I have to say, I’d be pretty irritated if I’d waited in line for it for an hour and that was it. I don’t know, I just wasn’t feeling it. Maybe I would’ve enjoyed it more if we had designed our own cars? :confused3 Anyone else out there agree with me? It seems like the only thing I got from it was bad hair since I forgot to put my hair up before the outside track! You can see me trying to hold it down in the picture. At least I look like I'm having a good time.

EPCOT_DPIRIDESYSGMTT_7272206928_zpszv5khlu1.jpeg

By the time we looked around at some of the cars after the ride and made our way back outside, it was time for us to use our FP+ for Mission Space! Now I know what you’re thinking: Star Tours nauseated you, but you’re getting on Mission Space? I know, it’s weird. It has never bothered me at all, and I rode it back in 2005 before there was Mission Orange and Mission Wimp (or whatever the easy one is called!). It is definitely an odd sensation, but it’s never made me feel sick.

Now before I go any further, I’d like to make a commentary on FP+ here. We never had any issues with Magic Bands or FP+ other than the occasional my band/fingerprint combo wouldn’t work the first time at the gate or something like that. But apparently a lot of people do not understand the concept of FP in general. I can’t tell you how many times this week I saw people come up to the first FP+ stop, scan their band, and have the CM tell them that their FP wasn’t until 5:00 pm and it was currently noon. What are you doing? Did you really think you could just stroll right in? I saw this happen repeatedly. I also saw a number of people never scan their band at the second post, which yes, a CM should have been checking more carefully, but I bet it caused problems if that person got off that ride and immediately tried to get a fourth FP without their window being up! I don’t know, I was just really blown away by the number of people who apparently didn’t understand that having a FP didn’t mean they could just get on it at any time of the day. Anyways…

Chris snapped a picture of a hidden Mickey in line for Mission Space (ok, it's not "connected" but I still think it's pretty clear that's what it is). I should mention that we were still searching for them! I didn’t talk about it in my Day Two chapters, but we were definitely actively searching for Mickeys and really enjoying it!

11048726_10156078379660377_8804278076955695714_n_zpsxdmukdpy.jpg

We had a great ride. I just can’t describe that sensation. It is so bizarre! I can’t remember which position I got, maybe Commander? I’m the type of the person who never presses the button. Chris is the type of person who ALWAYS presses the buttons and freaks out that I don’t push the buttons. Oh well. Lieutenant Dan got us there safely all the same.:rotfl2:

Once we were done with Mission Space, we were getting close enough to our first ADR for Coral Reef that we decided to head that way and see if we could get in a little bit early. Now I should add that when Chris and I came to Epcot in 2005, we basically only had the opportunity to do World Showcase. We came for a half day and Test Track was under refurbishment, Soarin was at 80 minutes and out of Fastpasses (the old style ones then), and we just didn’t really venture towards The Land and The Seas. I had eaten at Coral Reef back in 2005 though, and remembered really enjoying it. I had seen a couple of negative reviews about Coral Reef before going on this trip, but I have to say we were pretty happy with it!

Before heading into the restaurant, we stopped to check out the seagulls at the Nemo and Friends sign. I LOVED this. I’m a big Nemo fan as well (ok, I’m basically a Pixar fan all-around) and think the seagulls are one of the best parts of the movie.

11078156_10156078572950377_2240295888347439953_n_zpseclzulv5.jpg

We also grabbed a picture with Chip and Dale, who were nearby! You can also see that I've amassed quite a few Up pins by this point.

EPCOT_FUTURE_7272584159_zpshzbjlm0v.jpeg

We were about 15 minutes early for our reservation, but they still let us in almost immediately. The restaurant was pretty empty when we got in, and we were lucky enough to get a table right next to the aquarium! We got some great pictures while we were sitting there. I was so excited to see the sea turtles!

Our meal was pretty good, though not one of my favorites for the week. We split the crab dip for an appetizer and that was delicious. I ordered the Mahi Mahi and Chris had the Rainbow Trout. I liked his trout and would have ordered it myself but it came with beans and that’s a no go for me. The mahi mahi was good, but it came in a coconut-lime sauce and it was REALLY coconut-y. And I drink coconut milk every day, and it was still a lot of coconut to me. I got the Chocolate Wave for dessert, and I believe Chris got the same thing, though I failed to get pictures.

Our waitress was super friendly and gave us a little piece of chocolate that said congratulations for our honeymoon, so that was nice. She was also very knowledgeable about the fish in the tank. By the time we left the restaurant, it was packed in there and there were a lot of people waiting outside. Overall, I can’t really complain. The crab dip was delicious and I loved the view, just not the heavy dose of coconut.

Once we were done for lunch, we stopped and got a couple photos with Nemo out front.

Up next- The Seas and more!

What an awesome trip so far! Congratulations! I've been debating a Boma breakfast for our departure date, and yours looked delicious, so I think we will go for it! Plus I want to see AKL! We'll be staying at AoA for the kids.

Day Three at Epcot: OH MY GOD LOOK AT THAT MANATEE.

Plans for the Day:

ADRs: Coral Reef 11:45; Le Cellier 6:55
FP+: Mission Space 10:40; Soarin’ 2:10; Nemo and Friends 3:20

After our lunch, it was time to head into The Seas! We had a FP+ for Nemo and Friends for later in the afternoon, but when we walked in there was only a 5 minute wait. We basically walked right into our clamshell. I thought it was a cute little ride, but there wasn’t much to it. I like Nemo though, and combined with walking onto it I wasn’t unhappy. Once we got off, we decided to check out the rest of The Seas.

Now let me just say that I am a big fan of manatees. Huge. Love them. I believe they are my spirit animals. All they do is float around and eat and get fat, which is basically my favorite thing to do. I have had several adventures with manatees with Chris, including when we went to the Columbus Zoo and saw the manatees and Chris bought me a manatee stuffed animal, which I still sleep with when he travels for business.

Look at how majestic they are:

1379963_10200631889750742_926238459_n_zps32jhr8kj.jpg

We also took a trip to Blue Springs State Park when we were in Orlando in October 2014. This is one of the prime viewing areas for manatees, but it was a bit early in the season so we didn’t know if we’d see any. When lo and behold:

1795169_10202809850758406_847822919059825215_o_zpspmbco3bf.jpg

I was basically losing my mind that I was seeing a real life manatee in the wild. I followed it up and down the walkway for an hour. It was all Chris could do to keep me from getting in the water with my clothes on to swim with it (for the record, you can swim in the waters there during that time, so I wasn’t totally out of line). Here’s me hanging out with a manatee statue:

603719_10203543189771423_5323731623460452520_n_zpsqenrz6xi.jpg

Oh yeah, and then there’s this:

11263991_10204051337954810_3031581079138449738_n_zpshfwl05sd.jpg

Yeah, that’s our wedding cake topper. Thank god for Etsy.

So I didn’t really realize until relatively shortly before our trip to Epcot that there were manatees at The Seas. And when I found out, I totally flipped. Apparently manatees are rarely kept in captivity, and only a few places house them, including Disney World and the Columbus Zoo. So as we walked into The Seas, I immediately beelined for the manatees.

BEHOLD!

Guys, I stood here for 45 minutes. Chris basically had to drag me away. They were beautiful. AND SO FAT. I love it. While we stood there, one of the caretakers came out to discuss them and feed them. Let me tell you, if you have never seen a manatee eat lettuce, you’re missing out. It’s amazing, and adorable. I really enjoyed hearing the caretaker talk about them as well. One of the manatees had been released back into the wild twice, but had issues both times and was brought back. They were just so friendly, I just wanted to jump in the tank with them and swim around. Do you think that would get me permanently banned from Disney, or just like removed from the park for the day? :rotfl2:

After a while, Chris was finally able to extricate me from the manatees. We briefly walked around the seas, but I basically didn’t care about anything else in there. We watched the scuba divers for a bit, checked out an ell, and found a hidden mickey, and then decided to head back outside to check out some more of the park.

We still had some time before our Soarin’ FP+, so we backtracked a little bit to do some shopping at Mouse Gear. On the way there, we spotted the new Starbucks! We decided to go in and get Chris is first souvenir- the You Are Here cup!

IMG_2977_zps7n9dgk9e.jpg

They had plenty of them in stock, which I was happy about because up until we left I kept reading on here that they were out of them. We went ahead and bought one and a venti drink to split, and asked about sending the mug back to our room. The barista told us they couldn’t send it back from there, but that if we went to Mouse Gear and asked them, they would send it for us.

Well, unfortunately, this is the part of our journey where we have an interaction with a rude Cast Member. When we walked into Mouse Gear, I headed to the checkout and told the CM we had bought it from Starbucks and asked if she could send it back to our room. She immediately said “no.” I explained to her that the barista had just told us they did it and she said “no, we never do it. We don’t send anything from them.” And then walked away! It was really bizarre and I was not amused. We walked away and saw someone who appeared to be a manager. I asked her if they could send the mug for us and she said “absolutely!” and brought us to another register where a different CM quickly got it taken care of for us. I didn’t say anything because I know Chris hates confrontation and I didn’t want to be a whiner on our honeymoon, but it was pretty rude. I understand that the mug isn’t something in their system where they can mark it off to be sent, but it was really easy for the girl to fill out a slip for it, and we didn’t have any problems. Whatever. Onto the next thing…

Which was The Land! As I previously said, we had stopped in here to try to ride Soarin’ in 2012, but were unsuccessful. Once we walked inside, we still had just a couple minutes before our FP. Living With the Land was a walk-on, so we headed to that. I had never been on it before, but knew what it was. I’d heard a lot of people say it was boring, but I figured it would be a good time killer. Well, Chris LOVED it. I should say that we have a pretty large garden at our home and get most of our veggies out of it. So Chris just found the growing processes they were using fascinating. I made a mental note that on our next trip I should book the Behind the Seeds Tour!

Once we got out of there, it was finally time for our Soarin’ FP+! And obviously, the best part of the ride: David Puddy (yes, I am the BIGGEST Seinfeld fan). We both enjoyed the ride. I always love the smells part of it. It’s a neat experience, but I have to say I would never wait any considerable amount of time for this. Maybe it’s because I’m more of a thrill ride person, but I just don’t get how the lines for this consistently get up to 80 minutes. Oh well. We enjoyed our ride and then headed out of The Land to visit the World Showcase.

On our way to World Showcase, we stopped at Club Cool. I had never been here before! And I don’t know how I managed to not get any pictures in there either. We did try the Beverly though. It was as good as everyone says! There was also some veggie drink that was really gross. The other flavors were pretty good though, I can’t remember exactly what the flavor was but I think it was from Japan and I liked that.

By now it was mid-afternoon and we were ready to go to World Showcase!

Yay RVA! We should start a support group here LOL.

Yes, we need help! I love that we are a direct flight away (I did that for the first time in Feb. for a solo trip for a conference) or an easy drive! AND close enough for APs -- we just purchased them for the first time. Love the TR!!

subbing! loving your TR so far! :thumbsup2

AKL is one of my favorite resorts it's just so lush and relaxing - so glad you got such an amazing room!!

we are not big Epcot fans
... welp, time to leave this trip report ....

;)

I am one of those people that love, love EPCOT - though I can totally see how one could see it as dated (especially Future World). But I just think it is so unique and strolling through World Showcase, especially during Food & Wine Festival is one of lives great joys to me.

Seems like you are enjoying yourselves for the most part, other than being disappointed by Test Track (I do think the designing you car aspect adds to the effect) and that rude cast member. That was just a horrible response from that individual. Even if you think you can't send the mug back there is a better way to say that - and checking to be 100% sure would be a nice response as well. I do totally get not wanting to make a big deal out of it as you are just trying to enjoy your day.

BTW - I think that is the mug that Disney pulled from the shelves due to having a purple monorail on it as monorail purple has been retired after the deadly crash it had.

Glad you got to enjoy the time with the manatees to much. I too think they are very cool and just seem like nice creatures.

Living with the Land is one of our absolute favorites! Definitely plan to do the Behind the Seeds tour when my kids are a little older.

So jealous! I would live to think we could make it enough to get APs. Chris and I were talking about going back for our one year anniversary, but I think we're going to be in the middle of building our home then, so probably not the best time for a vacation!

Thank you! Someone was asking us the other day what the best part of our trip was, and while there were many amazing moments, I really do think the grandeur of that hotel was phenomenal. As I said, I've only stayed in a couple places, but the theming of that hotel is really just incredible. It's so quiet too, which is a big plus for us!

Haha! I don't blame you for leaving! :wave2:

Just kidding, but thanks for the comments! As you'll see in my next update, I did enjoy Epcot more this trip with the Flower and Garden Festival. And Chris really loved it since it was all about gardening and he's really into that. I just really think Future World needs a face lift. It looks "future" by 1980s standards, not today's standard. I understand that's sort of part of the kitsch, but it's just not very appealing to me personally.

I'll have to try designing the car next time! Maybe that will help.

And yes, I think you are correct on the mugs. We were also down there when the CM died on the race track, so that was sad.

Following along! Congratulations on your wedding and your Disneymoon! Fiance and I are heading there in August/September for our Disneymoon

Congrats! Where are you staying? I see you've stayed at Beach and Yacht Club a lot. We would really like to stay at one of those two on our next trip!

Animal Kingdom Lodge AND the deluxe dining plan?! :woohoo: Sign me up!

Congratulations on your wedding!

If you return to Liberty Tree Tavern you must try the Ooey Gooey Toffee Cake - it really is delicious. :cloud9:

I'm glad you loved Toy Story Mania - it's my favorite HS attraction after the Tower of Terror. :D

I agree that I don't love Test Track as much as I loved it pre-refurb, but at least the outdoor speed section still exists! :thumbsup2

Thank you! We're staying at Beach Club Aug. 31- Sept. 7. I'd love to stay at AKL or WL on our next trip (planning to return already lol!)

Your view at AKL is just amazing!
