How long do we need for Osborne Lights?

Yeah, about an hour. "Shows" run every 15 minutes and you'll want to catch about 2 or 3 of those.

We take 30 minutes minimum. If you will want to wait in line for the photopass photographer you will want to make sure to add time on for that.

Depends on how claustrophobic you get. I found the crowd so bad we were out of there after 15-20 minutes.

Is it more crowded as soon as they turn them on or later in the night after they've been on for a while?

When they turn them on. We did that once and never again. It was packed like sardines all they way through and we felt like we could hardly see the lights. Later is better. If you are not going to Fantasmic, then just avoid the time right when it gets out because people flood from the show to the lights. Our favorite time is evening EMH if you happen to be there for that. It is crowded right at the beginning, but is wonderful a little while later.

If you want to be present for the entire loop of songs, it will take just over an hour. It usually takes me that long just to slowly go through every section looking for hidden mickeys. But if you don't care about seeing all the songs danced to, you can do it in less than an hour. Beware they've announced this is the last year.

It really depends on what you want to get out of it. You can "see" the lights in less than an hour. We love the lights, so we can spend the night there, but that's just us (and no kids). To hear/see all the "dancing lights" song loops, to read the trivia signs about how the lights came about and fun facts, to find all the hidden Mickey's (and there are many), all the different things in the windows (ie Disney movie on TV and other things), finding the razorback pig and the purple cat, enjoying the snow, having spiced eggnog, etc., may take a lot longer. We like to get back there after the "turn on" the lights, but we have seen the lighting before. As others have stated, it is packed at 6pm. If you've never seen it, then being there for the beginning is nice, just crowded. Hope this helps. Enjoy!
