Hollywood Will Celebrate Walt Disney's Feature "Fantasia" 's 75 Years of Glorious Technicolor on June 7th

75th Anniversary Screening of "Fantasia" & "Fantasia 2000" To Benefit Los Angeles Historic Theatre Foundation

(HOLLYWOOD, CA, June 7)---On Sunday June 7, Hollywood celebrates the 75th anniversary of Walt Disney's "Fantasia" and the 15th anniversary of "Fantasia 2000."

"Fantasia" and "Fantasia 2000" - a pair of animated musical masterpieces - will receive special screenings at the TCL Chinese Theatre (www.tclchinesetheatres.com) in Hollywood to benefit the Los Angeles Historic Theatre Foundation (www.lahtf.org) and tickets go on sale May 7. Cinespia (www.cinespia.org), widely known for its successful film series across Los Angeles, will produce the event. Photo booths and special themed cocktails will also be featured at this first-ever back-to-back screenings in Los Angeles of "Fantasia" and "Fantasia 2000." The Cinespia-LAHTF benefit screening is made possible through the generous participation of the El Capitan Theatre.

According to the studio's archives: Fantasia, an unprecedented and magnificent feast of music and animated images, was initially released by the Studio in 1940 as a "road show" release. The following year, at the 14th Annual Academy Awards, Fantasia earned two Special Awards. The first was given to Walt Disney and associates for their outstanding contribution to the advancement of the use of sound in motion pictures, and the second to conductorLeopold Stokowski and his team.

Considered avant-garde during its time, Fantasia has gone on to become one of the most popular movies of all time and today is considered a classic. In 1990, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally significant." Equally impressive is Fantasia 2000, the awe-inspiring extravaganza of sight and sound, executive produced by the late Roy E. Disney and featuring an array of celebrity hosts including Steve Martin, Bette Midler, James Earl Jones, Angela Lansbury, Itzhak Perlmanand Quincy Jones.

L.A. HISTORIC THEATRE FOUNDATION is a non-profit organization with a 25-year history of protecting, preserving, restoring and sustaining the operation of historic theatres in Los Angeles and Southern California. Twenty-one theatres are now protected as Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Landmarks as a result of LAHTF advocacy and activism including the Grauman's Egyptian, Warner Hollywood (Pacific 1-2-3) and the United Artists (Theatre at Ace Hotel), along with 10 more theatres in downtown's Broadway Historic Theatre District.
