Hidden Secrets in World Showcase

Pavilions for Australia, Russia, Spain, Venezuela, United Arab Emirates, and Israel never made it past the planning phase. An Equatorial Africa pavilion was planned but was never built. It would have featured a large African presentation film hosted by Alex Haley. A small African themed refreshment stop is now in its place, known as the Outpost. After Disney's Animal Kingdom—an African-themed animal preserve and park—opened, any plans for an African Pavilion were dropped.

Here are some more just to bump the thread

The World Showcase lagoon is 185 acres in size and is larger than Disneyland in California!

The American Adventure pavilion was originally supposed to be at the front of World Showcase, hiding the lagoon and leaving the Mexico pavilion (on the left) and the Canada pavilion (on the right) visible in the distance. Later it was decided to have the entire lagoon in view and the American Adventure pavilion now occupies the center position across the lagoon..

A Rhine River attraction was originally planned for the Germany pavilion. A building was even built for it, but the attraction was never constructed. A pair of massive wooden doors at the rear of the outdoor cafe is the only indication of the show building behind the stone castle wall. (Taken from "Since the World Began")

Linger around the Beer Steins in the gift shop in Germany. There are 6 of them in the display case above that break into song from time to time. ;)

Are these only "activated" by the Kim Possible Kimmunicators? Thanks.:)

In front of the Japan Pavilion is a red torii gate.

This gate is replica of the torii gate found in Hiroshima Bay at Itsukushima.

The original was built around the 12th century AD and they are made of camphor wood. The one shown here was the 8th built on the site and was constructed in 1875. The roof is made of thatched Japanese cypress bark. The entire structure is coated with vermilion lacquer.

The Epcot version even has fake barnacles around the base to simulate the years of standing in the sea like the original.

Ha....I didn't even think to look around to see if anyone around had one of those. Maybe. :confused3
They are DEFINITELY one of the new "props" installed for Kim Possible Adventure.I thought maybe you had seen them "sing" when they were not "part" of KPA.:)

I was reading the lits of secrets and I came across this one.

The pictures on the walls inside American Adventure were all painted by various Disney artists. One picture in particular is an optical illusion. The picture hangs in the corner to the left as you first enter the rotunda. It is a picture of a B-17 bomber from back in World War II. In front of the picture is a grey strip of tiles on the floor. If you stand on the gray tiles and walk back and forth, the plane seems to swivel to follow you.

Has any one seen this and does it actually work?

Yes, it does work. :thumbsup2

One of my favorite "secrets" is the Library in the France Pavillion - with one of my favorite Hidden Mickeys on a book spine!

I agree-that is a great Hidden Mickey. It took me a while to find it.Another of my favorites is the "Hidden Mickey Shrub" there in France.:)

it's Belle's library. officially, it's an indoor meet & greet area but I don't think it's been used as such for years (primarily meant for inclimate conditions)

it's attached to one of the stores on the right side of the pavilion as you face the eiffel tower. there's an alley between it and the perfumerie. there are stained glassed windows telling the story of beauty & the beast on the outside of it, which will be on your right as you walk towards impressions de france

That explains why I've never seen the library either. I can't get anywhere near the perfumerie. I know I'm missing out on other great things near it. There are a few great places in World Showcase I have to miss out on because I'm so sensitive to perfume smells.

We noticed this past trip that when you stand between the entrance of World Showcase and Mexico and look towards Morocco, you can see Tower of Terror behind it. It is painted the same color as the buildings in Morocco so it blends right in.

If you hang out at the very back of the alley, there is a privacy fence with a gate. If you have the right timing(about 10 mins before Belle and the Beast's meet and greet in the library), you'll get a few minutes of alone time with them when they come out. DD was chased by Beast(good naturedly) and talked to by Belle. She was then their escort into the library and we got a free 8x10.

and cue the photo of the swolphin visible from within the world showcase..
