Help needed on posting a Hyperlink

I posted a link to an article on the Photography board. Used to be when I inserted a hyperlink into a post, I got a box where you could insert both the web address (the "http://" stuff) and then another box where you could put in a short description (like "Lost Camera Article") and only the short description would show in the link. I don't get that any more, just the box for the web address. I've seen other folks post links with a short description, so it can be done somehow. Can somebody tell me?

I looked in my user control panel, and the only place I figured it could be was in the editing section, and I have that set for the "wysiwyg" option. Is that wrong?

This is the link I posted: http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/08152/886261-28.stm. I clicked on the hyperlink icon (the blue globe with the links), got the box that said "type", http was already selected and in the 2nd box I pasted the web address. What am I doing wrong?

Like this... 757Hokie

Do the following...

Click on "Insert Link" icon

Type in the link after the "http://" - I used 757hokie.com in my example.

You will get the following [qqq="http://757hokie.com"]http://757hokie.com[/qqq] where qqq is really URL.

Change the second "http://757hokie.com" to what the text you want to be - I used "757 Hokie"

Here is yours... Tech Test: Lose a camera? This Web site may have found it

For additional information, go to the bottom left corner of this board and locate the link that says "vB code is On". That will take you to all the information about using vB (bulletin board) code here on the DIS. Look in the section about hyperlinks.

I'm trying again.....

This what I get when I click on the "Insert Link" icon:

Used to be there was a separate box to insert the short name of the link, but it's not there any more. So you're saying I now have to go in and put all those URL tags in?

This is after using the URL tags (linking to the page with the vb info):

vb info

And that works. Ok, I'll just have to remember to do that from now on; some of those web addresses can get pretty long!

And now trying Dan's suggestion, I changed my options to "standard":

vb code

AHA!! That's what I was looking for! Not exactly the "easy" way it was in the past, but it takes care of inserting all those URL tags for me.

Thanks Dan! :thumbsup2 (Make sure the DIS tech people give you a cut of their pay for answering this one!)

You may be making it more difficult than it really is.

Click the hyperlink icon and you get the display you show. Enter the URL just like you did in the past.

Now here's the difference. The old way had another popup where you entered the 'text' phrase you want to use.

The new way, the code is placed directly into your posting. You'll notice that part of the code is highlighted. This is preselected. So just immediately type the 'text' phrase you want to use. It will replace the highlighted default 'text' which actually is just the URL address being used as the description.
