Hi guys, we leave for our LONG trip to WDW on Tuesday YAY!!! We are staying concierge at the CR. Now, I know you have to tip Mousekeeping and turn down but what about when we arrive at the hotel and the person takes us up on the lift to the concierge floor...do we tip them? Also do we tip the person who brings our bags to the room? Any other advise would be greatly appreciated, thanks:goodvibes

You should tip the bellman/woman who brings your bags to your room. Standard is $1 a bag with no less than $2. However, I usually tip $2 a bag for about $10 (there are 5 bags)

Also, you should tip waiters/waitress at the table service rest. and buffets. We tip between 15%-20% depending on service. If it is really bad, I will go below, if it is really good, I might go over...

I am not sure about the Magical Express, but I personally would tip $2-$5 again, depending on helpfulness.

I can't think of anyone else you should tip at the World. You hit mousekeeping. If you use the childcare services it would also be nice to tip then, but that isn't mandatory

The bellman who would take you up to the Atrium Club will also put your bags in your room while you check-in, so I would tip them just a little bit more because of that.

We live in a Southeast Asian country where it is not customary (in fact it's illegal in many instances) to tip (guess where:upsidedow ) so, I feel your pain and confusion! While we travel a lot, for some reason I was very confused by some of the conflicting info on DIS so when we were at the GF at DW last month I was thrilled to run across a list of positions it is customary to tip in the in-room guide book (the room service menu is in the same book). Also, I found that by quietly and politely asking the check-in person (explaining that I've lived out of the US for 20 years and just want to get it right) that helped. I know this doesn't help with bags or Magical Express (I was told $2-per bag and not to tip ME also, I'm so sorry everyone, but it doesn't list mousekeeping in the book and the staff at the GF - both housekeeping and at the club desk - said it isn't a tipped position. They wouldn't even accept it when I left it.). Either way, let your conscience be your guide about things you feel you should tip for, even if it isn't listed, and, seriously, good luck - I know it's VERY confusing!!

In America....EVERYONE has their hand out.

I tip...ME driver..we have our bags with us.
Bellman...who stores our bags....and again who brings them to the room

If I request extra things to the room I'll tip whoever comes.

Checkout the same thing to the bellman.

And Table service restaurant waiters....anytime I order a drink at the bar....etc, etc......Actually I think thats it;)
Have a great trip.:goodvibes

edit...I usually tip mousekeeping....but I'm usually asking for some extra's also...ie, towels, blankets "towel animals":)

We tip the Magical Express driver if he handles our bags for us, $1 per bag. If we have ME deliver them on the luggage truck we do not tip the ME bus driver.
We tip the bellman if he delivers any bags to our rooms, usually $2 per bag.
We tip mousekeeping, (here and everywhere we travel in the US) usually $5 per day.
We tip TS waiters and waitresses usually between 15% - 20% of the bill, before taxes are added in.
We tip bartender $1-$2 per round of drinks at the pool bar, for example.
I think that is it.

Tipping:

1) DME Driver
. . . optional for simple transport
. . . $1 per bag if they actually handle the luggage to-or-from airport
2) DME Luggage
. . . if put in room by DME (even after you arrive), no tip
. . . they receive a pre-set tip paid from WDW for DME delivery *
3) Escort to Club Floor, Front Desk, Maids
. . . no tip, as concierge people are not allowed to accept tips
. . . concierge, maids, and front desk are non-tipped positions *
. . . they can be terminated for taking cash
. . . small gifts are allowed to be given, in lieu of cash
4) Bellmen
. . . customary $1 per bag, minimum $2
. . . this is for everyone who handles the bad (eg. bellman, valet)
5) Room Service and Pizza Delivery
. . . no tip needed
. . . room service already has a built-in 18% tip *
6) Prepaid venues (Hoop-Dee-Do, Luau, Cinderella, Princess Tea)
. . . no tip needed
. . . employees already receive an 18% tip from WDW within the price of the meal *
7) Meal Plan (DDP) Meals
. . . meal plan gives employees a 3% tip *
. . . another 12%-15% might be appropriate.

* Per union contract

3) Escort to Club Floor
. . . no tip, as concierge people are not allowed to accept tips
. . . they can be terminated for taking cash
. . . small gifts are allowed to be given to concierge and front desk people
While that is correct at the Contemporary it won't be a Cast Member from either Club Level floor who will escort the guest up to their floor. Instead it would be the bellman who takes their bags from their car that brings them up to the floor and puts them in their room.

1) If it is the bellman doing the escort along with bags, then tip him/her.
2) Anyone else is non-tipped.

On the "no tipping for maids" -- really, is that true? We've always tipped our maids, so it would feel weird not to do it. And they've always taken the $$. I wouldn't want to seem "cheap" by not leaving a tip for them. Stopping by the bank tomorrow to get some $1 and $5 bills for the trip - we leave Wed!!

Don't forget to tip if you use BBB or any spa treatments, haircuts, etc.
Also if you are using any boats with a captain for fishing or fireworks:thumbsup2

1) Maids are in a "non-tipped" job, per union contract (Addendum A).
2) They can make up to $12.47 per hour, plus incentive pay.
3) I am not making a personal guess, but a reciting a written agreement.

Just out of curiosity, is this just Disney maids, or maids in Florida in general? Because, we are staying at the Swan next time, and I want to know if I should tip them? :confused3

My ds was a cast member about 2 years ago. While he was not employed with mousekeeping two of his housemates were. I personally discussed the tipping policy with them at the time. It was "written policy" that they were to refuse tips. BUT they stated that not a single cm would turn away tips except in very public displays, even the supervisors. These boys accepted tips in the company of their highest supervisors. Only when the money was offered in front of guest not offering the tip (or rooming with those offering) would they turn it away. One was a mousekeeper at the Grand Floridian, the other was at POR. Hope that helps.
