I have to go to Hayward for work this week, anything I should make sure I do? I will have most of one day to do "stuff". Will be there for 3 days.

Eat at the Original Famous Dave's!

Can't think of anything else, it's more of a summer kind of town to me.

I know, but it's work, don't have much of a choice. I didn't know that Famous Dave's started there.

It did. It's actually out of town on a lake. My dh has been there several times, but I didn't get there until the summer of '10.

I think the World's largesty Muskie is there and there is a casino on the way out to Famous Dave's if that's your thing.

Maybe I will eat at the casino--usually they have pretty good food :lmao:. I don't mind putting a few quarters into the slots now and then.

Were you a Pony? I was a Dolphin and a Bear!

Nope, moved out of there before high school. I was a Warrior. We were in the same conference as the Dolphins and Bears though. I played basketball in high school. I remember playing at the bear school. Must have been around the same time if you went to both.

I love Hayward Wisconsin. When we went a few years back we stayed at Riverside Motel, (10429 State 27) which is a nice clean, moderately priced Motel. Across the street is a fantastic restaurant, Norske Nook.(10436 State 27) if you have a sweet tooth order their homemade pie. It is the best we have had in our entire life. "To die for" LOL

The world's largest musky as mentioned is there at Moccasin Bar (15820 US Highway 63) Also check out Coop's Pizza good pizza and a beautiful very large aquarium in the dining room. (10588 California Ave) There are all sorts of lovely stores you can shop in if that is of interest.

Down the road fairly close to Lac Courte Oreilla's Casino, if you enjoy slots so on 913767 w County Rd B) is a fudge/candy shop I believe it is on State 27 you can not miss it there is a large windmill in the small shopping area with a some other stores.

A little bit of a drive is Al Capone's Hide away in Couderay Wisc. We all enjoyed that and learned allot. Not much more that is open during this time of the year. Not even sure if the hide away is open now. From what I've been told it is beautiful out there this time of year with the fall colors and all.

Hope I was of some help.

Henry Sibley???

I played bb as well. I went to 9th at Mariner and then they combined the schools and I became a White Bear Bear from 10th grade on. I played bb in 9th and 10th and then retired. I graduated in '86.

I *love* the Norske Nook ... but I go to the one in Osseo. Great place!

Whenever I think of Hayward, I think of this ...

... and that it's in the middle of nowhere. You might be able to find a casino nearby.

I grew up near Osseo...Norske Nook pie is to die for.

I never knew there was more than one location, though!

Yep!

You are 2 years younger then I am. I think my junior year, so your freshman year, you were tops in the state, rated #1. I remember we played a stall offense the entire game against you because you had 3 really big girls that were kind of slow. We ended up winning that game :lmao:. I can't remember if you went on to win state or not though. It's funny what you remember.

Are you sure you're thinking Mariner or White Bear? We were never that great in girls basketball. The girls team went to state in '85, but that was pretty much a fluke.

White Bear boys basketball were the state champs in '84 and '85.

This would have been the '83 season. Maybe they were just on top of the conference but I am pretty sure they were rated pretty high in the state polls that year. They had 3 girls that were all really good, and 2 of them, I think, were 6'--which back then was unusual. They were seniors that year. I'm positive it was WBL.

Maybe it was. Honestly, when I was in 9th grade they were still the "enemy" LOL! I'll have to ask dh if he remembers. He went to WB for all four years. However, he was so wrapped up in hockey, I doubt he knew much about girls bball. Unfortunately, his 9th grade yearbook was destroyed when our basement flooded several years ago. I wonder who the girls were....you're right....having two six footers would have been unusual and I would think I would remember that. They say the mind is the first thing to go.....;)
