Has anyone done the Surfing Lessons at Typhoon Lagoon?

Any feedback would be great. My 12 year old daughter will be doing this in August, but not sure what to expect. She does surf at the Jersey shore, so she does have some experience.

Thanks

My DS loved it, and he had some experience as well. Everyone in the class had a great time regardless of their surfing abilities. Be prepared for an early morning; you have to arrive before TL opens. I had fun watching, and it was a unique experience to see TL minus a few thousand swimmers. Just remember to bring coffee.:beach:

My daughter (who is also 12 ) did this last year and loved it. So much so that she is doing it again this July! As the previous poster said, they welcome all experience levels. It is an early morning - 5:45am arrival, but the surfers, instructors and life guards are the only ones in the pool. You do have to use the boards provided by Disney. They are foam boards in three lengths, long, medium and short for the more experienced. All surfers get a good number of runs and there are two waves to choose from each time. One larger and a smaller secondary wave.
I grew up on the Jersey shore - Sea Bright, Monmouth Beach area. We now live in suburban Atlanta. Love GA but hate being land locked!
I'm sure your daughter will love the surfing lesson. Guaranteed perfect waves at TL!

So, can you come in to watch, even if you are not surfing yourself? My boys will be 16+ when we are planning to go, and I think grandma would like to see them do this.

Yes. You can watch. My husband did is a couple of years ago and had a blast. He had no experience prior and was able to "catch a wave" by the end of the class. There weren't that many people taking the class and the instructors were great. They also had a photo pass person that took pictures. He got a certificate after it was over.

Yes, and that's a great thing, but it's also the reason you will be somewhat inconvenienced if you then want to stay at the park once it opens. Since park admission is not required to attend the surf lesson, everyone in your party will be escorted to the exit just as the park is opening, and then you'll be required to go through the turnstiles to re-enter the park. It would be much nicer if they offered a mechanism for you to have your park admission scanned without having to return to the entrance.

We have been going tin January the last couple of years so it's bene kinda hard to get this done, but I would love to do it.

This year, Typhoon Lagoon is closing for refurb on 10/27 and is scheduled to be closed through all of December so it might not even be open when we go in January. This year, they didn't even resume the classes until March, bit hopefully one day soon.

Not sure of the minimum age requirement, but they can tell you if you call (407) WDW-SURF. This is also the number to reserve a spot for the lesson.

DD and a friend did this when they were in 8th grade. Definitely a highlight of all her trips. I went and video/took lots of pictures.
