An email I recieved thought I would share...

While in Europe I was told it's illegal to put your handbag on the table in restaurants. Read on...something else to be paranoid about, I guess, or maybe at least smart?

HANDBAGS
Have you ever noticed gals who sit their handbags on public toilet
floors? :crazy2: Then go directly to their dining tables and set it on the table? :sad2: Happens a lot! It's not always the 'restaurant food' that causes stomach distress. Sometimes "What you don't know 'will' hurt you"!
Read on...
Mum got so upset when guests came in the door and plopped their handbags
down on the counter where she was cooking or setting up food. She always said that handbags are really dirty, because of where they have been. Smart Mum!!!
It's something just about every woman carries with them. While we may know what's inside our handbags, do you have any idea what's on the outside?
Shauna Lake put handbags to the test - for bacteria - with surprising
results. You may think twice about where you put your handbag.
Women carry handbags everywhere; from the office to public toilets to
the floor of the car. Most women won't be caught without their handbags, but did you ever stop to think about where your handbag goes during the day?

"I drive a school bus, so my handbag has been on the floor of the bus a lot," says one woman. "On the floor of my car and in toilets."
We decided to find out if handbags harbor a lot of bacteria. We learned
how to test them at Nelson Laboratories in Salt Lake, and then we set out to test the average woman's handbag. Most of the ladies we talked to told us they wouldn't be surprised if their handbags were at least a little bit dirty. It turns out handbags are so surprisingly dirty, even the microbiologist who tested them was shocked.

Microbiologist Amy Karen of Nelson Labs says nearly all of the handbags
tested were not only high in bacteria, but high in harmful kinds of bacteria.
Pseudomonas can cause eye infections, staphylococcus aurous can cause serious skin infections, and salmonella and e-coli found on the handbags could make people very sick. In one sampling, four of five handbags tested positive for salmonella, and that's not the worst of it. "There is fecal contamination on the handbags," says Amy.

Leather or vinyl handbags tended to be cleaner than cloth handbags, and lifestyle seemed to play a role.People with kids tended to have dirtier handbags than those without, with one exception. The handbag of one single woman who frequented nightclubs had one of the worst contaminations of all. "Some type of feces, or possibly vomit" says Amy. So the moral of this story - your handbag won't kill you, but it does have the potential to make you very sick if you keep it on places where you eat. Use hooks to hang your handbag at home and in toilets, and don't put it on your desk, a restaurant table, or on your kitchen countertop. Experts say you should think of your handbag the same way you would a pair of shoes. "If you think about putting a pair of shoes onto your countertops, that's the same thing you're doing when you put your handbag on the countertops" your handbag has gone where individuals before you have sneezed, coughed, spat, urinated, emptied bowels, etc!

Wash cloth handbags and use leather cleaner to clean the bottom of
leather handbags. THIS IS WORTH SHARING!!!

ok...EWWwwwwwwww..... :crazy2:

I DON'T put my purse on the floor in public places but have put it on the counter in the ladies room....probably just as bad, uh?

I've NEVER put my purse on the bathroom floor. Does anyone actually do this? :confused3

I saw this on Dateline or 20/20 some time ago. It was enlightening. I don't put my handbag on the floor of a restroom or on the table at a restaurant (except maybe when we're getting ready to leave).

When I worked at DCF, many of my female co-workers were superstitious about putting their bags on the floor, so I learned never to put my bag on ANY floor, lest the luck leave me. So I never put it on any floor these days, Bathroom or other wise. I had heard of that before though.

Sorry, but my LV's and such are not going on the floor. I try to drape the handles over my knee and balance them. Not sure how folks manage to fit an handbag on a restaurant table. And I never put my handbag on any bathroon floor--ick!!!

eeeeewww,,,,, I never even thought of this ,,, but then again my handbag has never
been on a floor and never will.

That really is very gross.

Yep I have seen it and was really shocked! ICK!!

I've NEVER put my purse on the bathroom floor.

I never have, either. I'm too afraid someone will steal it. Plus, many public bathrooms have wet floors and I don't like putting my feet there, never mind my purse!

I also don't put my handbag on the table at restaurants, it goes either on the seat next to me (in a booth) or on the floor between my feet. When I come home, it's either on the stair railing, or in the corner next to my favorite chair.

I'm sure it could still use cleaning and I'll take care of that tomorrow morning. I'm just surprised that people actually put their purses on public bathroom floors and then on tables. Yuck.

And after they are on a bathroom floor, they are on the counter at the store right where yours is while your fishing for your CC or such. ICK now I am never doing that again!

Blech!

I don't put mine on the bathroom floor, but I do set it on a table or my desk once in a while. I'll definitely stop doing that.

I´m curious to know where in Europe this was? I have travelled extensively throughout Europe and have never heard of it being illegal!

Who the heck would put their purse on the bathroom floor. I have never done that - gross. It stays in a drawer in my desk at work. I carry it and it hangs on my chair in a restaurant. Worse place it goes is on the floor once and a while in my car.
