DCL doesn't seem to have an excursion to 7 mile beach on grand cayman; how does rum point beach adventure compare to the beach at 7 mile beach? how do you get to 7 mile beach and where is a good place there to go? are there facilities, beach chairs, umbrellas, etc.? Thanks for any help to decide between these beaches. do both have snorkeling? Barb

You can easily do 7 Mile Beach on your own by taxi. It cost us $15 each way. Ask to be taken to the Holiday Inn at 7 Mile Beach, it is about a 10-15 minute taxi ride. They have chairs and umbrellas you can use, there are restrooms, a snack and liquor bar right on site. You can also pack some snacks from the ship if you want. There are plenty of taxi's to take you back to the ship or just ask your driver to return at a specific time to pick you up. We did this trip on our own last July for the 11 in our party and it worked out wonderful and saved us a lot of $'s. We also brought our our snorkling gear with us and the kids had a great time snorkling and finding shells.

We just got back from a (non-Disney) vacation on Grand Cayman. I thought 7-mile beach was OK, but Rum Point was just fantastic! It was the only place we went to twice on our vacation. It is just such a neat scene. Lots of hammocks, lots of shade, even the water is shaded! It is perfect for families with small kids. The water was completely flat. We also did stingray city from Rum Point. I don't know how the cruise excursion works, or how much time you have etc., but Rum Point is one of the best places on Grand Cayman (in my opinion, of course!). If you don't want to do an excursion, the best snorkeling on all of Grand Cayman is right near where your boat will anchor! We went in the water at the Eden Rock Dive shop, swam towards the cruise ship, and the snorkeling was amazing. (Note: this is not on 7-mile beach, it is literally just landward of where the ship is anchored).
Hope this helps, Maggie

We rented a jeep and drove to Rum Point, a little long ride but well worth it. The place was great, we had a great lunch there as well.

Ginger, do you recommend going to Rum Point on your own or on the ship excursion? Is there a fee when you enter? Can you obtain snorkel gear?
