Going above and beyond?

If you got bad service - did you tip?

If I got poor service I would not tip 1c! And I would CERTAINLY not tip his boss and then explain why.:thumbsup2

i love to read all these sweet stories about the special treatment but it makes those of us who don't get the special treatment feel a little bad we were on our first Disney Dream cruise and while we didn't have bad service it was far from magical and i wonder if i had not read the great stories i wouldn't have been disappointed we are planing on going on a Fantasy 2014 cruise so we did have a great time maybe next time we will get lucky!

I asked for coctail sause at lunch and the server took a while , I think he went up to the buffet to get it . I was very impressed with the service overall .

If you are having bad service please do not wait to say something, Disney wants everyone to have a wonderful cruise and they will do everything to try and make that happen. On our last cruise something happened and they thought that our assistant server was not doing her job (we thought she was great) . Our head server came to our table to make sure everything was Ok and they brought another assistant server to our station.

The reason this thread is called "above and beyond" is because it is a place to talk about when a cast member did something extraordinary. You shouldn't feel that you have received bad service because something like what is posted here didn't happen to you.

Yes we tipped only the regular amount i was prepared to tip over but service was not worthy of any extra even in palo i felt like the server was tired and distracted never brought us coffee not the end of the world but kind of a really simple thing and i have to say our head server i think thats what he's called Ali didn't do anything for us but was so nice and friendly we really are not difficult people so i don't think thats why the service was mediocre they really seemed tired and not engaged.THE SERVICE WAS NOT BAD JUST NOT SPECIAL OR GREAT

on my dream cruise I was really looking forward to key lime pie. I asked my server when they would have it. He said usually on at sea day but we didn't have an at sea day, instead we got an extra day at castaway. The next night he skipped my order for a dessert and came to the table with two pieces of key lime pie for me, one for then and one for later. I loved my servers!

Another event comes to mind. My daughter loves a particular character and so when that character was scheduled to do an activity in the Oceaneers Club, a CM sent my DD an invitation to our room to personally invite her to the activity. And then after the activity was over, they escorted us (I was allowed in because we were going where there weren't other children) to a special meet n greet with this character. We were able to get a few photos taken and my DD loved it! This same CM did just about the same thing for us when we sailed in 2010 on the Magic, but with a different character. She was so great and we make sure she's going to be on each cruise. My DD really enjoys it when she's around.

We took a cruise about 8 weeks after tragically losing 3 people very close to us at Thanksgiving. We were a mess, but decided to go thinking that a break from reality might help. It was a chore to even get packed and on the ship. We told no one because we wanted to be "normal" for those few days but our travel agent knew about our situation and must have spoken to Disney. DCL went out of their way to be supportive, kind, and discreet. Every day there was a little something to help brighten our day...we never met the person or people who took such good care of us during a very difficult time, but we are forever grateful. Their kindness was a complete surprise and meant so much. Since then, we are diehard Disney fans.

DS has peanut allergy and is a bit picky so most appetizers and soups on the Dream were no to his liking. Though not on the menu any night he had his favorite ceasar salad every night, even without asking. Took DD BF and upon seeing her pick at her main course our server (Yekta) asked what was wrong and what else could he get her. She said she would be ok but Yekta new she liked pasta and shrimp so asked if she wanted the pasta dish with shrimp and scallops. When she stated she would but she did not like scallops, a serving of the pasta with extra shrimp came in 2-3 minutes - including our server peeling the shell off the shrimp.

Note Yekta and Helsniki serving team went above and beyond not only at dinner but everytime they saw us at breakfast, on CC, etc.

Do you know if Yekta is still on Dream? We had him in Jan. and we are sailing Dream again in Oct and we would love to have him again.

Two stories:
Went on a family cruise one year with DD, DSil, DGS (Teen), DW and me had Typhoon from Turkey as our server. 16 months later DW and I made a last minute reservation, went to PC for embarkation lunch, Typhoon saw us walking up to PC, and he came out of line from where the servers were escorting the cruisers to their tables. He served us lunch. We went to the table assignment change meeting, requested Typhoon as our server and it was granted. Typhoon had gone home twice and gotten married during those 16 months, yet he still recognized us.
DW was not feeling well on a sea day. Stayed in the room most of the day. I went to talk with our head waiter after lunch while clean-up was going on. He gave me that evening's menu, ordered our dinners then, and our waiter's brought our dinners to our stateroom between the two evening seating.
