My DH and I are here now! We are having an AMAZING time! Everything I hoped for! Weather is amazing and we have literally walked onto almost every ride! The longest we've waited was 10 minutes for Winnie the Pooh. Everything else has been 5 minutes or walk right on. I'm hoping the rest of the week is the same!
My DH and I have both never been stuck on a ride, but it's happend to us three times in two days!
Firstly, on Pirates we got stuck in the part where there are "wenches for brides" for about 20 minutes. Needless to say the dialouge gets annoying hearing it over and over again.
Then yesterday we got stuck on Test Track for about 20 minutes in the "corrosion room" and then on the part that twists and turns for another 10 minutes. When we returned to unload they let us go around again though to experience the ride properly.
FInally, in the late afternoon we got stuck on Spaceship earth. Right at the top before you go into the outer space part. It was nice and dark so I tried to have a little nap. After about 40 minutes, a CM came on the speaker to say that we were being evacuated and to wait for someone to come get us. Finally we were lead down the fire exit...18 stories or so! We were right at the top. It was interesting to see behind the scenes and the ceiling of the ball.
My DH and I take things lightly and did not care. Some people got so cranky!! Does anyone else have any experiences like this? We thought it was bizarre that we've been stuck 3 times in 2 days!!
As an engineer I LOVE getting 'stuck' on rides. No need to worry about the 'safety' issue: the eventuality of getting stuck and having to evacuate guests is planned for. I enjoy seeing the rides with the lights on, the stairwells, all that.
My 'grail' is a roll-back on Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point. It's a launch coaster, and a roll-back is when the launch isn't sufficient to get the coaster train over the 400 ft hill and the train rolls back into the station. I know most people would totally freak over that, but I always wish for it.

My 6 year old son and I were stuck on Expedition Everest last week. We got to where the track is "ripped" apart, and sat...and sat...waiting to go backwards. After about 15 minutes of sitting at the top of the mountain , the ride jerked FORWARD! I will say, my heart dropped to my toes. Then we went backwards and finished the ride. When we got off the CMs gave everyone a fast pass
Depends on their safety procedures. I'm sure there's a book at each ride explaining how to 'reboot' it. They may have a limit, say 30 minutes, that if they can't fix it in that time, they evacuate. I really think they do everything they can to prevent an evacuation. It's somewhat risky (getting everyone out of vehicles, not tripping over track, moving around scenery, going down stairs, ad nauseum). Why does it take so long for the CMs to evacuate sometimes? I get that things go wrong, but why leave people stuck on a ride for 40 minutes.
We were stuck in that very spot in Sept 07 and had to be evacuated. And we were 4 guys that weighed on average more than 250 pounds. They sent a 110 pound young lady to help us. The look on her face was priceless. We waited almost an hour before getting helped out and led to the 14 story open stairway. I have a huge fear of heights. I managed, but I was scared spitless. It was EMH and our plan had been to ride Splash and BTMRR over and over. BTMRR was already down, and with Splash gone, we just headed back. BTW, that was the third time in 2 days we'd been broken down on Splash, plus Buzz earlier in the day. Still the best trip ever.I think we would be shocked if we made it through a full day at any of the parks without something breaking down! We've just come to expect it.
Two notable occasions though - IASW - really, there's nothing to say except "pure torture"! I think we sat there for about 15 minutes, moved a little, sat for another 10 minutes or so, moved a little, ....you get the picture. And all the while, two little girls behind us from England, going "Oh Mummy, isn't this lovely?!" and signing along. arrrggggghhhhhh!
And perhaps the only time I was really scared - we stopped about 10 feet from the top of Splash. So the angle was not very comfortable after just a few minutes. I had no idea how they'd get us out of there if we had to evacuate, but fortunately, they got it going after about 10 minutes.
