gardening tours at DVC

At the beach club and yacht club resort they offer a gardening tour of the resort for their guests - you see all the special effects, they tell you how they do it, and give you samples of the plants. I have written to DVC to ask this be one of our benefits at the DVC resorts - am I the only one interested in this topic?

Sounds good to me. I was walking around OKW early one morning and asked a CM working outside about the grass in front of my building. He was knowledgable and seemed to like talking about his work.

Yes, there is a Landscaping Tour at OKW every Wednesday Morning. no ressies, no cost. It was started by the horticulture CM who does the tour (I believe his name is Dave). It takes place around the main pool area. I found Dave to be very knowledgable and informative. We took it last year in March in the rain. It was not long and he encouraged questions and discussed how many people it takes to care for the grounds at OKW, what goes into the planning and maintenance of landscape there, and how the landscaping has evowlved etc. The tour is listed in Hank's Happenings and you can ask at Hank's or thr front desk for more info.

is it offered all year - I only go in Sept and December. I would love to be able to do this - we loved the one at the BC.

Yes it is offered year round. I have seen it listed in Hank's Happenings whenever I have been there this past year. (Although it may not be offered if Dave is on vacation.) I am one of those people who reads everything I can get my hands on about a resort, new place to visit. I read all the events, daily schedules etc. where ever I go and have a compulsion about picking up 'tourist' literature and maps wherever I go. Which is why I can navigate pretty well in new places. And how I find out new things to do at WDW. Have you tried the tours at WL? Or shopping etc in Celebration? Have fun and enjoy the tour.

If you visit the HH resort they have a 2 very good tours of the resort that talks about the plant life/landscaping and how the resort was designed and built (Behind the Ears Tour). Jim the naturalist ran both 45 min. tours and makes them very interesting and informative.

yes I have done the ones at WL, no have not done the ones at HH (just went once in Dec).

I have changed my reservations in May from VWL to OKW to be able to do this. Thank you so very much.

Do you have to be staying at OKW or could someone come over from VWL to take a tour if you belonged to DVC??? How do you find out in advance of a trip what is going on so an itinerary can be planned?

Many WDW resorts have special tours and activities for their guests. (WL has some also.)

While they are really intended for guests at the resort, I'm sure they wouldn't deny someone else an opportunity if space is available. These activities are usually mentioned in the information provided at check-in at the resort. The OKW tour is not a DVC event, but an OKW resort offering.

I never knew about the tour at OKW, will have to do it on our next trip. This board is great.
